merrill-of-the-dalish started following you
āMy āfurry friends?ā Her head tilted slightly. āOh! You mean the rats. Why would they pay rent? Theyāre animals⦠Youāre joking again, arenāt you?ā Merrill gave an apologetic smile. āAll this time and I still donāt understand your humour, Hawke.ā
She shook her head. āI tried card games that one time we were in the Hanged Man and I donāt think Iāll ever do it again. Iām not good at - what was it called? Bluffing? I always seem to do it wrong.ā Merrillās understanding of why Fenris disliked her was very clear. She was a mage, and worse, a blood mage at that. But, sheād never done anything to purposely hurt anyone⦠Everyone else seemed to be kind to her. Yes, they didnāt approve of her use of Blood Magic, or atleast didnāt understand. But Fenris acted as if she had done something to personally hurt him. And this was what she didnāt understand.
She giggled slightly at Hawkeās comparison. āIf you tried to put him in the sea Iām sure heād just sink to the bottom.ā Hawke had always been accepting of who she was - even if he didnāt agree - and she had been veryĀ gratefulĀ of that fact. āI know you do⦠And I go willingly when you ask me to. Fenris is a skilled fighter, thereās no doubt about that. I just wish heād be more⦠accepting of me - not just see me as a dirty blood mage.ā Merrill shook herself from her saddened state. āIām sorry, Hawke. I didnāt come here to dampen your mood.ā
"I'll start to worry when the day comes that you do understand my humour, Merrill." Hawke retorted playfully.
Of course she couldn't bluff, Merrill was honest, too honest to play a game of cards with the likes of Isabela and Varric, they'd wipe the floor with her in a matter of seconds. Though Hawke was sure that Isabela would sometimes overlook the fact that Merrill wasn't bluffing, just to keep the elf in the game for a little longer. The pirate was fond of the young elf, there was no doubt about that.
"Well then, lets keep Fenris away from any source of water." He chuckled in unison with Merrill's giggles. It was almost like having a conversation with Bethany when she was a child, even now they still had playful banter, but not on the scale that he and Merrill had. It was a breath of fresh air that had managed to worm its way through the tense atmosphere that hung over Kirkwall.
"Sometimes people see what they want to see, Merrill. I can't make him change his mind and you know my stance on your blood magic. I wish you hadn't resorted to it in the first place." Noting how she was attempting to apologise, Hawke offered her a luke warm smile and a slight shrug. The day a demon came knocking on her door wanting payment, Hawke was going to put an end to it. He couldn't afford to think of one persons happiness over the lives of many. He hated how such decisions were on his head, but if it had to be this way then the least Garrett could do is accept it and make what he felt was the right decision.
"My mood is perfectly dry I'll have you know. How are things at the alienage? Witnessed any more muggings?"
