Our Current Mission
Children are being denied meals at school because their parents cannot afford to pay their lunch bill. Think about how grumpy you get when you’re hungry, and how difficult it is to function.  Now imagine a child trying to learn when they’re not only hungry, but now embarrassed, because they’ve had their lunch or breakfast taken and thrown away for lack of funds, or they’ve been denied a meal all together, or they’ve been told that they have to work to pay off their lunch debts, OR they’ve had their hand stamped “lunch bill unpaid”. (Yes, you read that right!) School lunch debt follows these kids as they navigate from one grade to the next, and they are often forbidden from participating in school activities until the debts are paid. (That’s right people. These kids can’t eat nor can they go to the school fair or school dances.) They are being punished because their parents are struggling, and people are struggling because… well, that’s another rant for another day. I recently read an article about a Pennsylvania school threatening parents that their children will be sent to foster care for failure to pay outstanding lunch bills. (I can’t make this stuff up people. We are THERE!) I quite frankly can’t sit by idly anymore so, I’m making an effort to pay these lunch bills with your help!
This… is The Protection Project, and our agenda is kindness. Our aim is to be our brother’s & sister’s keeper. We want to look out for each other. To PROTECT each other. Many nonprofit orgs. have very focused areas of work, but this organization plans to tackle many; from homelessness, to domestic violence, to racial injustice, to school supplies. Wherever there is a need, we want to help. There are so many people in need, and so many people with the resources to meet those needs. Through donations, with volunteers, and because of kindness, we’ll be able to accomplish just that!
