TGS IS ENDED (A Farewell to an Irreplaceable Facet of My Life)
Todayâs the day. The final page of The Glass Scientists. The story come to a close. In spite of the fact that Iâve wanted to see TGSâ tale come to fruition for more years than I care to count, I never quite believed the day would comeânot out of a lack of faith, but rather out of a hope that I would not have to lose what makes Monday special to me. The weekly countdowns to a joyous reward. I have never wanted to part with the these rituals that have become a natural reality of my life, and therefore simply assumed that today would never be the day.Â
Todayâs the day. As a choral singer by trade, I have spent most of today sitting with a dear friend and listening to one of my favourite piecesâMorten Lauridsenâs O Magnum Mysteriumâon loop. Its final section, the repetition of âaleluiaâ until the sound fades into nothingness, is exactly how I feel at the end of this era. Peaceful, prosperous, yet still filled with incredible grief for something missing in my world. Although I didnât find TGS until it was a few years underway, I feel as if Iâve been part of the journey for the majority of my remembered life; it has shaped and changed me in more ways than I could ever hope to process, and helped me understand myself as a person far better than I could have without. I truly donât know who I would have become without it, and I certainly donât know how to express my gratitude for its existence in this world. Funnily enough, today I also had to part ways with a man who has acted as a dear father figure for the majority of my life; the grief I feel for both these events is equal in depth and measure. I love TGS, as many others do as well. To see it end is nothing short of bittersweet.Â
Of course, this isnât a true farewell. One will never leave something fully in the past, especially something that has made such a deep mark. But it is a farewell to the ritual, a closing to the story. Thank you, Sage, and all the others who have contributed to TGS and this wonderful fandom, for everything youâve put into this beautiful piece of art. You have made do many of us better off with your work. Aleluia. :)

yall i say this with love and sympathy in my heart but can the stranger things fandom PLEASE shut up with this 'we're the worst queerbait ever' stuff?? ive seen a stupid amount of posts about it in the last few days, and it just makes me more and more upset each time.
no, byler is not 'worse' than destiel or johnlock, or any other queerbait. no, byler was not hinted at 'more' than any other queerbait. all of them suck, and the real thing that we should be focusing on right now isnt who suffered the most but trying to stop shows like this from making queer people suffer in the future.
when shows feel comfortable doing things like queerbait, it speaks a lot to how they feel about their queer viewers and how little value they find in making said viewers happy. stop infighting with the people who have gone through the same problem as you, and start turning your anger towards making sure that the producers of shows like stranger things, supernatural, and sherlock know that this kind of behavior won't be tolerated.
do it so that in the future, we can have ships like byler that really do pay off and become canon.

a day late (due to some unforeseen minor operations TT) but hereâs my addition to @arythusaâs TGS Halloween event! Itâs more general J&H, but regardless, here it is :)

This sounds like a shitpost but people should be allowed to be horny. As in, sexuality is just part of life for most people and thereâs no reason for consensual sexual behavior to be punished. A celebrity getting âcaughtâ at a sex club shouldnât be a scandal. No one should be fired for having a fetlife profile outside of work. Nudes getting leaked shouldnât be career-ending. Denying and hiding (consensual) sexual interests doesnât make anyone more professional, it just makes everyone more repressed. And sterilizing ourselves to be better work drones isnât productive, itâs just creepy. Iâd rather my surgeon get absolutely railed on camera and come to work in a good mood, frankly.
the amount of ace, aroace, + sex-repulsed ppl leaving support on this post is rly heartwarming
also this goes without saying but is also true of ppl who do sex work for used to do sex work. an accountantâs boss finding out that they used to do sex work shouldnât be a career ender. a restaurant worker shouldnât be fired bc they have an OnlyFans.
the management team for my choir are making folders of music for students who forget their scores at home, and one of the other managers decided to make a design for the front of the folders.
imagine youâve been stranded in space and have had zero media other than home alone 2 to watch for literal years. then, finally, finally, after years of fighting and surviving and trauma, in late 2016, you return to earth. and you go home, to the united states of america and reunite with all of your loved ones. and then, because you want to catch up with current events, you check the news.
and that one random billionaire guy who had a cameo in home alone 2. the only film youâve seen in approximately three and a half years. is now the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

'i asked chat gpt'
well i asked time itself. and it said to listen to the cogwork logs.
Nye from @thecogworklogs as a little rat maid. This time it's not even my fault that this concept exists (â âĄâ  â Ïâ  â âĄâ ).
i take. full responsibility.
Whenever I think about students using AI, I think about an essay I did in high school. Now see, we were reading The Grapes of Wrath, and I just couldn't do it. I got 25 pages in and my brain refused to read any more. I hated it. And its not like I hate the classics, I loved English class and I loved reading. I had even enjoyed Of Mice and Men, which I had read for fun. For some reason though, I absolutely could NOT read The Grapes of Wrath.
And it turned out I also couldn't watch the movie. I fell asleep in class both days we were watching it.
This, of course, meant I had to cheat on my essay.
And I got an A.
The essay was to compare the book and the movie and discuss the changes and how that affected the story.
Well it turned out Sparknotes had an entire section devoted to comparing and contrasting the book and the movie. Using that, and flipping to pages mentioned in Sparknotes to read sections of the book, I was able to bullshit an A paper.
But see the thing is, that this kind of 'cheating' still takes skills, you still learn things.
I had to know how to find the information I needed, I needed to be able to comprehend what sparknotes was saying and the analysis they did, I needed to know how to USE the information I read there to write an essay, I needed to know how to make sure none of it was marked as plagerized. I had to form an opinion on the sparknotes analysis so I could express my own opinions in the essay.
Was it cheating? Yeah, I didn't read the book or watch the movie. I used Sparknotes. It was a lot less work than if I had read the book and watched the movie and done it all myself.
The thing is though, I still had to use my fucking brain. Being able to bullshit an essay like that is a skill in and of itself that is useful. I exercised important skills, and even if it wasnt the intended way I still learned.
ChatGTP and other AI do not give that experience to people, people have to do nothing and gain nothing from it.
Using AI is absolutely different from other ways students have cheated in the past, and I stand by my opinion that its making students dumber, more helpless, and less capable.
However you feel about higher education, I think its undeniable that students using chatgtp is to their detriment. And by extension a detriment to anyone they work with or anyone who has to rely on them for something.
