So, you just saw our new ferret. His name is timmy, you can find him tagged as “learn from a ferret parts”.

He’s so funny and such a baby. But sadly he’s sick, really sick. His kidney does not work well. So maybe we will get some bills we can’t pay that easily.

I will know more on the 3rd of April and I’ll update you.

“sex positivity” was a mistake. it’s not being utilized in a way that lets people (especially young girls, people of color and lgbt people) have proper access to information about sex and STDs, consent, or rape culture but instead it just promotes a “fuck whoever you want whenever you want and never think about the consequences!” mindset. it leads to a lot of minors making god awful decisions and then regretting them later with nothing they can do about it. it leads to “being open about your kinks is progressive!!!!” which in turn ends up with men pressuring women into violent sex and saying that if she was a #Real sex positive feminist, then she’d have sex with him how he wants her to.

sex positivity should’ve been used to promote education of safe sex, to lessen stigma around sex (especially between sga and trans individuals), to give sex workers a voice, to spread proper information about STDs and prevention and treatment, and to teach about rape culture and consent. but as with most movements like this all it ended up being was a red lipstick and black heels “fuck the patriarchy” type thing while doing literally nothing progressive! and of course i’m not saying there’s nobody who does this, but with the way the sex positivity movement has gone, i doubt these people have the energy to try and have a loud enough voice in a community spewing the opposite of the message that should be gotten across.

Sex positivity was never a mistake. It is essential to combat the taboos and the stigma around sex. Too much sex education is fear-based. Too much sex education aims only to prevent negative outcomes of sex from happening, when it should also empower people to experience fulfilling relationships and sexual pleasure - and it’s number one focus should be on making those positive outcomes happen. Preventing bad stuff is not enough to guarantee positive, joyous, and empowering outcomes. And will remind you the first people that we hurt with our sex-negative stigmas are cis women and queer people (sexual abuse survivors and sex workers especially).

It should be a given that sex positivity always, always exists within the context of liberated and empowered consent. Pressuring people into having sex and shaming them for “not being kinky enough”, for having boundaries or for not wanting to have sex is not sex positivity: it’s rape culture. Rape culture should never invalidate something so crucial as sex positivity. Because it is sex negativity that feeds rape culture. Because it is misogyny that feeds rape culture. Because it is transphobia, biphobia, and homophobia that feeds rape culture. Because it is slut-shaming that feeds rape culture.

Sex positive was always about empowering people, especially people that society at large oppresses: cis women; queer people; youth; sexual abuse survivors; sex workers; kinky people. Taboos always benefit people who enjoy privilege. Sexual taboos and sex-negativity benefit the same people who benefit from rape culture. Sex positivity is about well-rounded, comprehensive sex education, discourses around sex and relationship, and challenging privilege. It is about educating people, children and youth especially, on their bodies, how they work, and how they can provide pleasure. It is about teaching skills to have open conversations on desires and boundaries, skills on how to foster a climate where people feel safe and comfortable asserting themselves, whether it is to voice a fantasy or to say “no, I don’t want this” or “no, I’m uncomfortable now and I want us to stop”. It is about showing what healthy relationships are, and all the forms they can take. It is about giving people the means to explore their sexuality is little or as much as they want, and remain safe and healthy as they do so. It is about inclusion, about creating communities where everyone is welcome: kinky or vanilla; queer or straight; non-binary, trans or cis; asexual and aromantic, sexual and romantic, and all shades in-between; young and old; sexually inexperienced or slutty as fuck; unready to have sex or willing and enthusiastic to do so.

A rejection of sex positivity will set us back decades. So please don’t say sex positivity was a mistake when what you mean is the fight against rape culture still rages on and that we can’t let the abusers hide their tactics behind a pretense that has never been sex positivity.
