This blog is a devlog / discussion board for the development of my WIP rain world mod: The Relay. I plan to share whatever I make related to this project, such as gameplay, rooms, pearls, illustrations, music, or interactions, most of which likely won't be included in the final mod. I also want to use this as a space to help develop my ideas about the lore of the world to make my mod fit the feeling of the original game while still having my personal touch. I have not had extensive interaction with the theories in the wider rain world community, almost everything I post here will be my interpretation or headcanon. If you ever see an idea which is new to you, feel free to ask me about why I've come to that conclusion. What I don't want is people correcting me, and I don't want my vision to be watered down to the general understanding the community has come to. For the purposes of this project I will consider all content from the original release to be canon, as well as most downpour content. As of right now I won't be including anything from The Watcher.

I am a college student with difficulty committing to projects for a long span of time, and on the scale of projects this is an ambitious one. I may disappear for days or months at a time.

I've begun work on the level geometry for the first region: waterways. Here are some early rooms. Right now the goal is to finish the geometry for the region and get everything connected. I need to finish programming the movement of the Relay before I can finalize the geometry.

AP: Skies, please say something!

SOS: …

AP: My overseers are reporting major karmic damage to your can. Please tell me what happened!

SOS: It’s… gone. It’s gone. It’s all gone.

AP: Skies, you need to focus. If you don’t repair the damage immediately, you won’t get the chance. Please, you must do what you can!

SOS: Abby… It’s too… too late. I can’t fix this. I tried so hard, so much work… So much forgotten…

AP: We’ve had this conversation, you know it wasn’t your fault. Please, help yourself for once. You don’t need to burden your legs with the weight of the world.

SOS: But I…

SOS: You are right, now isn’t the time.

AP: What is your status?

SOS: Rarefection efficiency has already dropped 60%. Repair cannot progress. There’s nothing I can do.

AP: What if you slowed karmic intake? Would recovery be possible?

SOS: Critical components have already been damaged beyond my ability to repair. Even if the flow were stopped, I will be forced to rely on my secondary systems. But the damage can be contained.

AP: I have a possible solution, but it will take a few more cycles. You need to hold out as long as you can.

LttM: Have you completed your inspections and censuses?

AP: It is with honor that I inform you that all my inspections have been completed. At your request, I will humbly relay to you the most recent population and ecological data of my local region.

LttM: Forget those lengthy formalities. I’m barely your elder, and regardless, we’re iterators, not counselors. What is the status of your citizens and the nearby residence?

AP: My citizens are doing well, although I’m receiving a growing number of complaints about my rain from the residence. They act as though a request from a high enough house will force me to stop breathing. Perhaps they should have considered this when choosing the location of my foundations.

LttM: We both know they had little foresight in that regard. In your case, I believe the river they selected was somewhat of an inspired thought.

AP: And yet I wonder…

LttM: Have you found something of note? Are your water levels stable?

AP: I have no concern for my long term access to water. Surprisingly little in fact.

AP: The level of my river has been dropping steadily over the past cycles. As of yet it is still within precedented levels, but if this trend continues the infrastructure relying on it will cease to function.

AP: Yet my own supply has not been affected. In fact, the available water in my region has been increasing, with only one explanation. The rain my neighbors and I are producing has begun to alter the water table in unexpected ways. Am I right to believe that is the reason you contacted me?

LttM: You are correct. I believe that we are about to experience an ecological change of enormous scale. The start of a new Cycle. Our citizens will have to accept that in this new world some things aren’t under the control of an esteemed house.

AP: I find it difficult to believe they will adapt quickly to this new state of things.
