“Believe me when I say I appreciate it love.” The Captain averted his gaze mainly due to the fact he couldn’t gawk at a siren. That was asking for more trouble. In no way did he want to appear disrespectful to her. Not now, not ever.

He ran his hand through his damp hair, pushing it back from his eyes as he considered a few ways he could thank her, but here and now, nothing would compare.

“Don’t mention it.” Tess shook her head lightly, feeling the moment between them grow slightly awkward. They were supposed to be enemies, she was supposed to kill him and he should be staying away from her – yet here they are as friends. “Better get yourself dried up and a change of clothes, else you’ll get sick.”

She didn’t quite understand why she was doing all of this for him, she shouldn’t be doing it really. She will end up being the main target of her sisters if they were to find out that she had befriended a pirate. The scent of death coming her way was nearly impossible to avoid.

“Isn’t it always, love?” He asked, rather quietly, letting her push him against the wall. He took the shoving, the angry glare and the hold of his collar. He had it coming. In the end, it’s always his fault.

He watched until finally the grip on his collar had been released. She had almost shoved him again but neither of them really could have helped what happened. It was cruel on them both and most likely against both of their natures.

Tess threatened to leave and all the pirate could do was swallow back his words and try to come up with any reason at all that might make her stay. Anything. Maybe if he even uttered something it was spike at least some anchorage on her.

“Love, don’t..” he took a step forward, wanting nothing more than to close the distance between them again, but he had hoped on very different grounds. Hopefully less violent grounds.

“This is wrong, Killian.” She spoke through her clenched jaws before gasping for air like she’s had her head pushed under water, where she somehow could no longer breathe. “This is not how it’s supposed to go – we are supposed to hate each other. Kill each other.” Slipping back into what she has been told, that killing men and women was her only purpose in life. A monster created by a God to balance out the light and dark in the universe. It didn’t make sense to her and yet she had believed it for several years and was now beginning to believe it as well.

It was the heartache she felt. This is not why she was born. She regret setting foot on land, approaching Hook and getting attached… How he made her smile with his witty remarks and how he calls himself ‘devilishly handsome’. His eyes recognizing that she’s lost and how they could guess what the other was thinking…

“I have felt nothing before and suddenly you treat me with kind words and – No… It’s for the best…” Shaking her head, Tess’s eyes stammered at the floor before she looked up at him, trying to avoid those ocean blue gems and those arms that worked like magnets. “It’s for the best if we part ways.. and never turn back.” Her words got stuck in her throat, but managed to get out with the lack of sound from her own voice, only followed by air which she tried to get back into her lungs.

So this is what love feels like… You find yourself sinking deeper and eventually stop breathing… Not sure if you want to try to swim back up or let it kill you.
