Andie: Santa came through big. Santa and the grandparents. We've already done a bit of purging and getting rid of some of her old toys to make room for the new ones she got at Christmas. How'd you make out?

Blaine: Santa and the grandparents are pretty much what Christmas is FOR, when you’re that age, ha. Making room for new stuff is always a good idea, though.

Blaine: I can’t complain, 😊 Some gift cards, a few new bow ties, a leather portfolio for sheet music - probably not as fun as your little girl, but grown-ups like me are pretty boring, I think, 😋

Andie: That's good. Not the not wanting to be there longer than necessary, but the seeing your parents, that's good. It was good. Suffocating in the way that seeing my parents always is. But also really really nice because it'd been too long.

Blaine: And here I thought less was supposed to be more, 😉

Blaine: Mom would have had a fit if we didn’t come home for Christmas. I can definitely empathize, though - Dav and I both get the full inquisition when we go home for a few days.

Andie: How was Chicago? Davlin told me y'all went for Christmas.

Blaine: Never annoying. Appreciated, yes - but not annoying, 😊

Blaine: Ahhh, so I just need a fancier slow cooker, then?

Blaine: Still a great city that I really don’t want to be in any longer than I have to. And cold - really, REALLY cold. It was nice to see my parents, though. How about you, how was your visit home with the kiddo, pre-plague?

DAVLIN: Okay.. More like?? I called Lowe's and they can fix it! See? Nothing to worry about it at all!

DAVLIN: It's not kitchen on fire kinda bad. It just took a little creative improv to hide until the fix it guy gets here. Listen. Don't blame me. It was Christmas's fault.

BLAINE: I’m not freaking out! I’m... justifiably concerned.

BLAINE: How much is Lowe’s fixing it going to cost, though?

BLAINE: You realize that by not telling me what happened, I’m just creating more elaborate disasters in my head right? And that Christmas is an amorphous holiday, you can’t actually blame it for festive disasters?

Andie: Who isn't? I think we're all works in progress. That or we're lyin to ourselves and everybody else.

Andie: You can absolutely watch over my shoulder. And let me be the first to say you absolutely have to invest in one. I mean nothing is quite the same as a meal that's taken forever to prepare. But at the same time, there's something AMAZING about putting something in and being done in less than an hour.

Blaine: That’s what I keep reminding myself. If everyone is a work in progress, it’s okay for me to be.

Blaine: I’m a big fan of a slow cooker, but it’s not really practical when I’m at school all day during the week. I’ll definitely have to check that out.

Andie: We are! I'll make you soup when I get back? I got an Instant Pot for Christmas that's bigger than the lil one I bought myself and I'm dying to make a bigger pot of soup in it.

Blaine: It used to, but I’m getting better at not letting it get too overwhelming. I’m a big old work-in-progress all around, I suppose.

Blaine: I’d be an idiot to pass up an offer like that, and I like to pride myself on NOT being an idiot, ha. I haven’t had a chance to try out an Instant Pot, though, so I may see if you’ll let me watch over your shoulder.

Andie: I'm pretty damn hard to disappoint in the first place. And even more importantly, you definitely don't need to worry about it if you ever happen to. Like honestly.

Andie: The good stuff. The homemade stuff. Even sick I had to throw it in the crockpot.

Andie: Doing anything special for vacation??

Blaine: It’s an ongoing thing, honestly. I just prefer to make people happy rather than let them down.

Blaine: Mmmmm. I kind of want soup myself now. But I hope you guys are feeling better, at least?

Matt: There's the twins who are eleven and then my other sister who is 19. She and I have a 10 year age difference which wasn't too bad but when she got into her annoying years I was in high school and didn't really want to have a little sister hanging around my friends. Not that I was a dick to her or anything. I'd play those make believe games with her sometimes. But that wasn't something I broadcasted.

Matt: Fires this year have been...it's been a lot. We did what we could to save as much as possible but it's never enough. I'm okay. I had to take time away from social media for some time after it. Which is why you're hearing from me now.

Matt: Hows the free time treating you? I return home this Sunday. If you're available tomorrow evening we can meet?

Matt: We'll be at the school January 22nd at 10am.

Blaine: Oh WOW. I’m pretty sure that’s how our older brother felt about me and Davlin about 90% of the time. That’s just a five year age difference there, but still.

Blaine: I can only imagine. I don’t blame you one bit for needing to take a little time away, considering how stressful that has to be. Take all the time you need, the app will be here when you get back!

Blaine: I’m catching up on all those little things that I kept putting off during the semester, so I feel at least a little productive.

Blaine: Really? Well, I’ll just have to make sure I put that on my calendar, then! That’s a Monday, and I think I’ll still have 4th grade on Mondays, unless they reshuffle my classes again after the holidays. I’ll see if I can get out to see what the fuss is all about, though.

Carissa: First time! I can cook. Ish. Like what I make is edible but it's not exactly the prettiest? Nothing like this one person I met on here. I don't know if I should bug her about help with it being so close to Christmas.

Carissa: You better be off school now! I'll be so mad if you're not! And I've been all over the place! Shopping for gifts, getting a tree for my friend's place. Went to a couple parties. It's been a fun month so far!

Blaine: Ish? It doesn’t have to be pretty if it’s tasty though. Maybe a few pointers and suggestions wouldn’t go amiss?

Blaine: I am! I’m off until January 8th, actually, so I’m enjoying the relaxation while I still can.

Hallie: Yes and no. I used to love to read and when I was younger I'd write these stories to entertain myself whenever I was stuck waiting on my mom while she went shopping. This was before I was allowed to have a phone to distract myself with. She'd ask me to read my stories to her on the way home.

Hallie: How has talking with them been like? Was it a mutual break up? It is most definitely wishful thinking! No way I'm placing myself back in that hell!

Blaine: If that’s something you enjoyed, maybe it’s worth exploring? Despite having a phone to distract yourself with now, I mean.

Blaine: Okay, I suppose? A little awkward, but it’s nice to reconnect without any expectations. The break up was his idea, but in retrospect it was for the best, anyway, since we clearly wanted different things. Not a good break up then?

Andrew: Houseful of girls during the weekends. I think back on the days I watched Full House and how I couldn't imagine raising three girls. And it happened. I don't have anyone around to help me but so far I've been managing. I can't imagine how it'll be in a few years.

Andrew: Exactly. Job growth has slowed some recently and it plays how how many people move here a year. I have my fingers crossed it'll bounce back soon. In the mean time I tried to appeal to those who are looking to buy their first home.

Andrew: Okay. Don't want to bore you with work talk. How has your weekend been?

Blaine: Ha - well you’re in San Francisco, so the comparison’s apt! At least you’re sharing custody and don’t have to do everything on your own. You have a bit of time to build that support network.

Blaine: I moved here three years ago, and went in on a house with my brother. I suppose that makes us first-time home buyers? We had a LOT of help, though.

Blaine: A little nuts, actually. I had my school’s annual Winter Gala, so that was sort of a big deal. It’s done, though, and school’s out, so I can finally relax!

Lulu: Hit me with your favorite tropes. I'm curious about what kinds of characters appeal to you.

Lulu: Hey... from your fingers to God's ears, because I'd be very happy to get lucky. In more ways that one, though I'm not much of a hook-up girl. I'm always unsure of how those things are supposed to go. Do we have breakfast the next morning? Do they just leave?

Lulu: Not gonna lie, I'd love to hear you play sometime. And/or sing. I love to sing... My dads think I'm decent at it, but I think they're a little biased in my direction. I sound off key to me.

Lulu: I've watched the first two. You should be proud!

Blaine: Oh man. I feel like That Reminds Me Of a Song is an obvious choice, ha. And I always appreciate a Deadpan Snarker or a Lovable Jock.

Blaine: Same here. I tend to make breakfast, because it’s just polite, but I’ve gotten some withering looks for that. My luck on here’s been sort of limited, though.

Blaine: I’m sure that could be arranged - I very rarely say no to the chance to perform, ha. Even if you’re a little off key, enthusiasm makes up for it, so I think your dads are probably right.

Blaine: I’m VERY proud! Do you have a favorite character yet?

DAVLIN: What's the chances of you bringing home a new powerstrip? I might've just gone a little overboard with how many I can piggyback and am still getting the smell of burnt plastic out of the living room.

BLAINE: ...Please tell me you didn't set the carpet on fire? 😨

Sky: I didn't do much, just stayed in and watched some movies. I made myself a little loner's Thanksgiving meal. I didn't go full turkey, but I made one of those Cornish hens. Makes you feel like a giant to eat those.

Blaine: Awww - I wish I’d known you were on your own, we ended up having an open door sort of Thanksgiving - you could have swung by, even if just for dessert.

Blaine: It does kind of sound delicious, though.

Hallie: Have you ever done the getting back with an ex thing before? I have one who likes to text me late at night and talk about how he wishes I'll give him a second chance.

Blaine: Hey, maybe she’s right! Is that something you’ve ever had any interest in?

Blaine: No, not really. I have an ex who popped up here on the app, though - we haven’t spoken in ages, and all of a sudden we got matched. I don’t think either of us is really itching to go down that road again, though. Is it wishful thinking on your ex’s part, then?
