Dear Future Riyane
Dear Me, 10 Years From Now,
You should know that youāve gone through a lot in the past few years. You thought you were smart, but it turns out that you werenāt very good at reading people. Youāve moved on from that, mostly. Yes, you still have trouble every once and a while. That doesnāt matter. Youāre doing it.
Ten years in the past, your poetry collection Strangers and MusingsĀ is about to be released and, if you remember, you were actually really nervous about its release. Youāre worried about what the public will think. Worst of all, youāre worried about what your new friends will think. You really bare your soul about the people youāve met and how you fell in love with the city. You spoke to your therapist about it -- do you still have one, because I feel like you probably will still need someone to talk to -- and she told you that itās normal to be nervous. You will be amazing. You are amazing.
As for what I hope in the future... I hope that youāre happy and youāve found someone special in your life. I hope that youāre happy and you see your parents more often than once or twice a year. I hope that youāre happy and you have threeĀ dogs now, friends for Sarge. Above all, I hope youāre happy with yourself, because thatās all that matters in the end.
Best and much love,
Riyane Verday
