ESCAPE - an act of breaking free from confinement or control. At work, we've been partaking in weekly "chocolate meetings". When I was first asked to attend I thought to myself "how pitiful that they need an excuse to have chocolate in the middle of the day." But I reluctantly agreed to attend anyway. I was asked to bring a unique type of chocolate bar so I brought Mango Sunset #ghirardelli and hoped for the best. They decided to meet at 4pm. Normally around 3pm people start to get the mid afternoon-snack-rummage urge. So 4 was perfect. We met in a small conference with each of our prized chocolate treasures and glasses of water in hand to share with others. It was surprisingly insightful to speak about work and no work subjects with people I usually don't engage with and avoid on my walk to and from the restroom. The chocolate associated with conversations of normal office politics and pop culture gossip was perfect for a late afternoon break. I absolutely could not live without them now. Maybe I should start wine meetings at home weekly. Alone. With a whole bottle of wine. Alone.

MOONLIGHT - the light of the moon. Simple enough. I finally watched this movie last night and was pleasantly surprised. Many of the actors (with the exception of Naomi Harris who I feel in love with on 28 Days Later) I heard never seen or heard of. I actually had no idea Janelle Monae was in it either until the credits. The story is a young kid in Miami whose mother becomes a crackhead and her drug dealer (whom later dies) takes him under his wing. With his broken home base, he inevitably has issues at school with other boys and it pretty much an outcast. He has an inconsistent friendship with a boy he knows. A sexual encounter one breezy night on the beach changed him forever. I struggled with what his sexuality was up to that night. At that point he was a teenager and had to have thought about girls (or boys for that matter) at some point. Maybe all the drama with his home life didn’t leave time for his imagination to wonder. Some bullying leads to him having to move to Atlanta and the story skips ahead some years and he is a drug dealer himself (and aged very nicely lol). A phone call from the guy he had a rendezvous on the beach with brings back old memories and reminds him of his obviously oppressed sexual feelings. He embraces it and accepts an invitation to return back to Miami for a casual meeting. They catch up on life and “Black” confesses that he has never been intimate with any man or woman since that night or prior. The movie ends kind of open and I wasn’t sure how to take it. They are sitting head in chest as they did that night on the beach. I started to think the Moonlight meaning may have meant something else. He was this other person that no one knew about. He had a secret just his friend knew. He wasn’t only what everyone thought. MOONLIGHT – have a second job in addition to one’s regular employment.

Boy Scout - an honest, friendly, and typically naive man. That definition was different LOL.  A 100 year old “Boys Society” reversed it’s stance on its gender specific member rules. Yesterday Boys Scouts of America announced they will also allow transgender boys to join the organization. This means gender listed on the application it what will be taken and not birth certificates. Children will be accepted based on what they identify as. This is a huge win for the LBGT community. Equality on all fronts. Some feel this is a loss for the organization that was founded and prides itself on raising young boys to become men. #BoysScoutsOfAmerica #LBGT #TransgenderChildren
