New band photo by ugly-machine !
You might have already heard, but theshortsleeves just released the digital version of that cutie cassette they Kickstarted back in February. It’s full of new tracks, AMAZING remixes, and all the adorableness Paul & Jenn carry around on their persons at all times. Have you met these guys? They’re the cutest ever.
Side Note: I was over in Brooklyn for their killer Pulsewave/Cassette Release show with Nordloef and Crying ~on a whim~ last weekend (after obsessing so much I ran out of excuses not to) and took some photos and some pretty badgood video. All coming soon.
The Shortsleeves’ Volume 1 is out! ⊟
I’m still trying to process that I actually met and saw two of my favorite bands (The Shortsleeves and Crying) at Pulsewave last weekend, plus witnessed an absolutely bonkers set from Nordloef. None of it feels real.
Couple that with today’s release of The Shortsleeves’ kickstarted album — in a time when crowdfunded works often turn out disappointing or delayed or abandoned — and it all seems like a lovely dream from a weekend nap, certainly not like a real life Tuesday.
Volume 1 offers classic tracks, new songs, and remixes (from friends like Bit Shifter and Bear & Walrus). You can stream them all online for free, but you should buy it because the album is more than worth the $10 the band is asking for. Unfortunately it does not include Jenn de la Vega’s cover of "Hey, I think you’re really cool."

Bombs away! It's official ! We're releasing VOLUME 1 on June 3rd!
They're here!
Shipping confirmation!
Our Kickstarter cassettes are on their way to Brooklyn today!
One day left to put your money down for a Shortsleeves cassette! I’ve mentioned before that The Shortsleeves are one of my favorite chip groups, and they’re kickstarting a tape that will include all of its old materials, new songs, and remixes from friends. The audio embedded here contains samples from two remixes: Bear & Walrus with "In the Memory", and sylcmyk taking on "OceanSideArcade".
But lemme holla at you for a sec while you’re in a crowdfunding mood. These nice folks need your support:
My once coworker and indie games tastemaker Brandon Boyer got screwed over by Humana and cancer — help him pay some bills
Elizabeth Simins produces great comics about being bad at games
DB0 makes it possible for people to play one of my new obsessions, Netrunner, online through OCTGN
Anna Anthropy creates beautiful games
Merrit Kopas runs Forest Ambassador, which is like a Tiny Cartridge for free and accessible games
If you have suggestions for other Kickstarter/Patreon/Whatevers that you think should be highlighted, make sure to mention them in our comments! I’m sure I’ve forgotten some important ones — these are just what immediately popped up in my head.
Ahhhhhh!!
The home stretch on Kickstarter!
We've come a long way! Here's where we are by the numbers:
$32.00 USD away from our stretch goal to bring Nordloef from Sweden to NYC
3 generous individuals away from 100 backers (whoa.)
1 Casio picnic package left for $100 or if you think about it, $25 between 4 friends :)
31 hours left to go! It ends at 4:55 PM EST
Help us make it happen on Kickstarter!
More Remixers!
The B-side of this tape is going to be WAY. MORE. AWESOME. Long time friend and co-conspirator greenleaf hops into the fray with a remix of our new song "Bridges."
We've also got some Chicago love coming from Orange Drink who will be remixing our very first song "Time Flies When You're Lying Under a Tree."

Oh hey, we're on Soundcloud now! Starting it off with short clips of our B-side remixes from Bear & Walrus and sylcmyk.

Day 1.5 on Kickstarter
WOW! THANK YOU. SO. SO. MUCH!
We are over 80% funded with 41 backers in a little over 24 hours. We feel incredible and can't wait to unveil some surprises in the next couple of weeks.
Oh hey, we've had some help pumping up the volume:

If you want to help even further, we love tweets and retweeting them (Ơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡ᴗƠ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡)/

We want to finally release all our old material (and a bunch of new stuff) as a full length album on the up-and-coming cassette format. Why cassette? They fit nicely in your pocket, that’s why.
But to make it happen we need some help! We want to have all our new songs nicely recorded, mixed, and mastered, then carefully placed onto cassettes one song at a time. That’s how that works, right?
That all costs money though! Not much - we just need a little! And you’ll get cool rewards in return for backing us and making this album happen!

PS. The phone number at the end of the video is REAL!
Support Tiny Cartridge on Patreon! ⊟
We’ve opened up a Patreon page and started a Club Tiny program, allowing our wonderful readers to support us with monthly pledges. There are a lot of fun rewards we want to give supporters, like behind-the-scenes talk, Mystery Gifts and Notes, podcast guest hosting opportunities, and more. If any of that interests you — or, more importantly, if you’d like to help us keep Tiny Cartridge growing — please check it out.
Patreon, if you’re not familiar with it, lets you pledge a regular payment to a creator, per each unit (video, article, etc., in our case per month). It allows us to try crowdfunding for the operation of our site, rather than a specific project with an endpoint, for which we might use Kickstarter.
With the backing of our patrons, we want to be able to put more original articles up (like my interview with the creator of the WarioWare DIY snapshot blog), collaborate more with friends, and pay Fran for the work he puts into the TinyCast every week. As a long shot, we’d also like to buy 3DS/Vita video capture equipment and record and stream some games.
We want to be able to put more time into making Tiny better, and less time into the freelance gigs we currently look for to make ends meet. We want, after five years, to make this a job.
And we’d love your help. Come join Club Tiny!
Our song "Rabbit Feet" is in the video for this campaign! Support our friends!
