My Lore: Regrettably I contracted The Shutter Bug. Since being infected I have been compelled to take photographs. Mostly bugs, birds, and flowers.

I am an unpaid live-in aide for an elderly woman, in my spare time I love taking photos of nature. I don't get out, but I take photos from or near my backyard.

Aside from photography I also plan to use this blog as a place for my poetry. Villanelles are my favorite type of poem.

I am still going through my backlog of photos from last year, here is one of them.

Well, not all my photos are of wildlife or cool things at Salato. This is my neighbor's cat, KEVIN. Though I do not support outdoor cats I will take the opportunity for photos of them when I see them in perfect lighting.

Here are some other edits of the same image, these edit exposure and saturation, I was unhappy with the other image as the shadow on the eagle appeared green and distracting.

I went to Salato! Got a few great shots of the fabled American freedom chicken!

This is one of my very first photos and remains one of my favorites. The dandelion had taken over a pot on a table and was leaning heavily, I moved the pot to the edge, got my composition so that the curve of the stem roughly fit with the tree line and got a good angle.

Another clouded sulphur. I know you can't see its body but I really loved how the wings were popping out of the flower.

It isn't the best image out there, but it the best one I have gotten of a clouded sulphur butterfly so far!

I retook the photo to get more of the flower in focus and in frame Love how it turned out!

I am so sad about the in flight photo, it is just a smidge out of focus, not talking about the wings, I like the motion blur, but the face is a bit out of focus.

Years ago, one of my first years gardening and my first year with my camera I only had the kit lens. Which is actually a solid little lens, but it doesn't have great range at all. When I saw the birds on my sunflowers that year, American goldfinches, I tried to get photos of them... but no... that didn't happen... the photos were too far. They were so beautiful and I was upset I didn't have the equipment. So I worked hard and got a lens the next year that would be better. But I didn't see a single one. The year after? Nope again. I had been forced to move the sunflower patch so I never caught them, so they weren't in a place I easily saw them. But about a week ago, in perfect light, I was taking photos of butterflies. I was super frustrated trying to get images of the clouded sulphur butterfly with my macro lens, they kept flying away. I tried for a good 40min and they'd fly over to the opposite side of the flower patch each time. Well... I go inside and decide that the macro lens just couldn't give me the reach I needed and I'd lose a little detail but get some great photos with my 400mm telescopic lens I use for birds. And do you know what landed right there on the sunflowers as I was outside with my birding lens all nice and ready to go? An AMERICAN GOLDFINCH!!!!!!

What I believe to be a clouded sulphur butterfly

I am so excited, while it will take some additional saving to get all the filters for all the types of IR photography that I want to do I only need 80 more dollars to get my camera converted and get the first and most important filter.

I went out with the camera when I woke up and was immediately met with this beauty sampling my marigolds and really lingering on the sunflowers.

As promised, dear friends, a photo of a skipper butterfly. I think it is a sachem but there are many species that look similar. It is feeding on a marigold! Every year I plant marigolds and I plant sunchokes and they are just swarmed by butterflies. The skippers can always be found on both.

The whole thing isn't in focus but... I loved it anyway... If the light is nice tomorrow I will try to retake it.
