"So before we go see Fenri I'm just gonna give you a little warning. She can be a little harsh, let's say. She is our leader and her loyalty to the pack can sometimes come across as annoyance..." Rieka tells Kat as they walk towards the kitchen.
"So you not only brought the human into our town but now our home. Why, Rieka?" Fenri says not looking up at the two of them.
"She was passed out in the hunting grounds at midnight, it was not safe." Rieka explains.
"And is it safe for us to bring a human here?" Fenri's voice is ice cold.
"I'm not dangerous I promise" Kat says but Fenri does not respond.
"I'm Kat, Kat Woodard." Kat says and reaches out her hand to shake Fenri's.
"Fenri Bardou." Fenri does not shake her hand. Fenri doesn't even look up at them. Just continues to cook.
"Let's go introduce you to Hati first, Hati likes everyone and everyone likes Hati. It can't go wrong."
Rieka says and I felt like telling her that I could think of many things that could go wrong, but chose to stay quiet.
Hati reaches out to shake Kat's hand.
"Hello I'm Hati! I originally come from the Amark pack but now I'm here with my sister's." She winks at Rieka.
'What is going on here? What are all of these people's relationships to each other?' I thought.
"Hi I'm Kat Woodard."
"Omg are you THE Kat Woodard!? The author!?"
"You know of me? You have internet here?"
Rieka and Hati laugh.
"Ofcouse we do, and I love your books! When I was younger I was totally into the whole werewolf-vampire girlfriends dream and even though I'm real happy with my sister's in the pack now your books bring me right back to those werewolf-vampire dreams!"
"Oh, thank you."
Her smile was infectious.
"You really didn't know any of this existed before today did you?" Hati asks Kat, bouncing on her feet.
"No, I really didn't." Kat answers.
"That would explain some of the inconsistencies!"
Kat laughs a bit awkwardly.
Hati continues, her voice running a mile a minute.
"Oh please don't worry, your books are perfect! They don't have to have every little werewolf fact right!"
Hati is silent for the beat and then blush.
"I really don't wanna bother you after the whole 'the town might eliminate you'-thing but are you working on the sequel to 'in the clocktower' by any chance? Oh my starts are you here doing research!? Is Rieka your inspiration!? Oh my goddess Rieka is totally the inspiration for Tiska isn't she!?"
"Hati breathe!" Rieka tells Hati while putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to overwhelm you, but really you do not have to worry about you getting eliminated, everyone will love you I guarantee it! I will help spread the good word about you too! Anything to help!"
"Thank you Hati and I promise if I manage to get out of this mess I will definitely send you a copy of the book when its finished."
"Oh wow! Do you really mean that!?"
"Yeah, I do!"
"Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
And I really did mean it, I still do.
"You seam to romance Hati, do you have a partner now?" Kat asks and Hati blushes.
"No. I have my pack sisters and that is definitely really good..." Hati smiles at Rieka fondly and continues "But sometimes I can't help but dream about the type of romance people write about, that you write about. You know, the type with only two people."
Okey, seriously what is the relationship of all these people?
"But I'm not really made for relationships." Hati continues her voice taking on a somber note.
"What do you mean? You seem absolutely lovely!" Kat says and Hati gives a half smile.
Rieka looks deep into Hatis eyes as she says "I do not need to be a witch to see the day in the close future where you and Lupa leave us to build a pack of your own."
"You really think so?" Hatis asks, hope in her eyes.
"I know so!" Rieka says.
"Thank you! Oh please do not tell her any of this!" Hati fusses and Rieka laughs as she assures her she has nothing to worry about.
To do list
1. Try not to get eliminated
2. Find out if Rieka is single our in a polycule, or in a cult, or what ever hell is going on here.
3. (And somehow most important) Protect Hati at all costs.
"This Lupa, we approve of her right?" Kat asks Rieka as they walk away from Hati's room.
Rieka chuckles "We do, I can take you too meet her right now and you can asses her yourself. It's not far, just up these stairs."
Rieka is silent for a beat. "Hati really just makes you want to protect her, doesn't she?"
"Yeah, definitely." Kat says without hesitation.
Rieka smiled at me as if I had just passed a big test. A 'like my little sister/ maybe polygamous partner or die'-test.
"Okey so that didn't go great..." Rieka says as Kat and Rieka slowly make their way back to the werewolfs house.
Kat is silent, lost in thought.
"Don't worry! We will figure something out. Let's go talk to Ulva, she always helps me when there is an issue." Rieka says, trying to stay calm herself.
"Ulva, Hi!" Rieka says as they approach a woman working at a woodworking table underneath the werewolfs house.
Ulva turns around, wipes some sweat of her brow and grins at Rieka and Kat. "And who is this? Rieka did you bring me a snack, how kind of you!"
"She is kidding." Rieka tells Kat.
"Or am I?" Ulva says chuckling before adding "Now who is this little pipsqueak?"
"I'm Kat."
"I see no ears, I hear no purrs..." Ulva says, grinning.
Kat sighs before raising her voice slightly and gesticulating wildly. "I am not a cat! My name is Kat!"
"But you do have the attitude of one." Ulva says and Kat sighs.
She was very frustrating... Hot, but frustrating.
"So are you just here to say hi to ol' Ulva or are you here to discuss the elimination-issue?" Ulva says leaning back on her workbench.
"What do we do Ulva?" Rieka asks her voice brimming to the edge with worry.
"Well you start with taking a deep breath." Ulva says and Rieka do, her tensed shoulders lowering slightly in the process.
"And then you answer me this Rieka, how do we decide things in the forgotten hallows?"
"We vote?" Rieka answers her confusing clear in her voice.
"And who's vote do we follow?"
"The majority..."
Ulva waits for Rieka to get to the point she clearly already have figured out but when Rieka says nothing Ulva sighs and says "So then make the majority like her, make them want her to stay!"
"What if I don't want to stay?" Kat says.
I didn't know if I wanted to stay or not, it's not like I had much tying me to my home anyway. But I wanted to know my options.
"Well it's either make friends with everyone and make them trust you enough to give you the power to travel between our two worlds or have your mind erased, which I have heard do come with quite a few bad side effects. And then little Rieka here will be punished for brining in a human and you two would never be able to see eachother again." Ulva explains.
And I looked at Rieka, and I didn't know why but never getting to see her again felt like the worst punishment.
"Wow that is actually a good Idea!" Rieka exclaims.
"Why do you sound surprised? I always have good ideas!" Ulva scoffs.
Me and Rieka was sitting on her bed talking, getting to know eachother when a woman knocked on the door reminding Rieka of a council meeting they had to attend and telling her to bring the woman she had brought in from the woods. Rieka seemed worried but wouldn't say why. She just murmured something about me already being seen and gave me some warmer clothes to wear. Then we were off, and soon we were stood infront of a daunting mansion surrounded by werewolfs and other beings I did not believe existed until that exact moment.
"We are gathered here today to speak on the matter of proposition U7 brought forth by house Elwood."
The woman on the podium was confident, assertive, clearly very intelligent and absolutely fucking terrifying.
"There are people watching from up there." Kat whispered in Rieka's ear. "Don't worry kitty, does are just the students" she answered. "Not a kitty" Kat whispered back and Rieka grinned. "I can see does ears growing"
As Rieka brushed her finger over my ear I shivered. I have actually yet to stop shivering from it to be honest. Wow...
"But what my opponent has forgotten to factor in is the very pressing issue of the barrier-"
I got chills up my spine as the woman on the podium turns and look directly at me, her voice ice cold.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Kat..."
"Human"
She spoke the word with such hatred, the despise dripped from her lips.
"I'm... I'm not dangerous" Kat stuttered.
"That's what they all say... Eliminate her!" The woman's voice steady and lethal.
"No! No! No! We will do no such thing!"
A woman with a long brown braid stood up and defended me.
"Not now Elspeth, this is not the time to have this debate" the woman on the podium says to the woman with the braid.
"Oh, I think this is exactly the time to have this debate. Please explain to everyone why you don't want the human here." Elspeth asked.
"She is dangerous..."
"She doesn't look very dangerous to me." Elspeth retorts.
"She is!"
"Well let's just put it to a vote." Elspeth says addressing the crowd.
"She is dangerous!" The woman on the podium tries again.
The before so well-spoken woman seemed dumbfounded.
"You need to explain why to make a compelling argument, Sybil" Elspeth spits out.
Sybil stands silent.
"Well then, let me speak."
Elspeth takes to the podium.
"We have for to long been a secluded and uninviting community. But I believe our way to the future is drawn with open gates and open hearts. I vote for letting the human stay if she so wishes and for the gates to be opened for all that wish and I hope to see all of you do the same in a week on our election night. Thank you, and good night."
The head of the council wants me 'eliminated'. What it means I don't know, but it cannot be good.
"Hello, good morning!" The unfamiliar voice woke Kat up. As Kat opened her eyes she realized she had no clue where she was and so she jumped out of bed.
"Who are you!? Where am I!? What have you done to me!?"
"I haven't done anything except carry you here, you were collapsed out in the hunting grounds and I didn't want anyone else more dangerous than me to find you."
"You seem pretty dangerous to me! You have fangs and ears!" Kat screamed.
"I do... Who are you?" The woman Infront of Kat seemed almost amused by Kat's screaming.
And even as I was focusing on trying to find out if I was in any imminent danger, I acknowledged that this strange woman infront of me was... inticing. She was like every slightly cocky heartthrob character I have ever written.
"I asked first!" Kat exclaimed.
"Okey, yes that is true you did. Hello nice to meet you, I am Rieka and I come from the Geri pack. I am a werewolf!"
"So does are real?" Kat asked as she leaned over and pet one of Rieka's ears. Rieka almost instantly whimpered and her legs seemed to almost give out from under her making Kats hand slide down her face.
And for a while we just stood there, my hand on her cheek just looking at eachother. When I finally wake up out of the trance and pull away she shutters and blush.
"Oh wow, you are very forward! You are already touching my ears, I am not saying I don't like it you are a very beautiful woman. I am just saying I usually know a woman's name before she touches me."
"Oh I am so sorry! I'm Kat... Kat Woodard."
"Oh a little werekitty! So cute! But where are you ears?"
"I am not a cat! I am human."
"A human!?"
Rieka backed away from me. Her eyes were filled with... fear.
"You are human?"
"Yes."
"How did you get here?"
"I don't know? I don't remember? I was dizzy, so very dizzy... I think there was a berry involved."
"A berry? How strange... We don't have humans here."
"And where exactly is here?"
"Well... The forgotten Hallows, more precisely you are on the werewolf huntinggrounds, in my bedroom in my and my sister's house."
"Are you going to eat me?"
And at this point, when I was fully convinced I was going to be turned into a breakfast Rieka laughed... She laughed...
"No, no! I usually don't eat pretty woman of any kind! Well... Maybe I do eat pretty woman in some ways but not the kind to be scared of."
And as I blushed my mind running wild, a scary thought rushed in.
"You said the hunting grounds, where you found me... Where you out hunting?"
"Yes, I was hungry."
"What were you hunting for?"
"I don't know, what I could find. Maybe a deer."
" You'd kill and eat a deer? Oh my god would you kill it with your teeth!?"
And then the beautiful woman turned into a monster in my eyes...
"Well yes... Do you not eat meat?" Rieka asked, clearly confused.
"Well yes I do... But that is different!"
"How?"
"Well I buy mine!"
"So if one of my sisters kill the deer and I then eat it would you be less scared of me."
"I... I don't know. I guess it's not so bad. But please don't hurt me."
Rieka took Kat's hands in hers and looked deep into her eyes "I promise! I won't!"
How do one write a romance novel with a broken heart?
To escape the stress of my computer and phone going of every two second with someone asking where the sequel I promised is, I decided to leave all electronics at home and explore a forest outside my city. So far it's a whole lot of nothing. I am sure I would have found inspiration in the lovely scenery before but now everything feels empty. I am hollow.

You can also find their sister Nadia there often but she is more interested in drinking the boba tea and practicing for her school plays than actually making them. You are also welcome to join in on one of the many creative workshops or queer social clubs run by mother Clara and big sister Allie.
