When it all started
My symptoms of the narcolepsy started in about 2008 (8- 9 years old). At this point I was only falling asleep in the car on the way to and from places and because a lot of people do this so no one really thought anything thing of it.
Then it got a bit worse so when I started Secondary School in 2012 (Age 11) I would come home from school I would fall asleep on the sofa for about an hour before my dad got home from work. No one really thought anything of this because I had just started Secondary School which was a lot more demanding, and once I had started picking up some clubs no one really noticed because it would be school, club, dance class (most days),tea, homework, bed.
It wasn’t until around about 2013-2014 (age 12-13) it was starting to be clear that something was wrong because the Cataplexy started, which is a sudden physical collapse caused by strong emotion. This started very slowly, so maybe once every couple of months to maybe several time a day. At it’s worsted it could be more than once a day. ( I will do a post more about this.). In the beginning people didn’t really think everything of it , then people either believed me or thought I was faking it. I was also falling asleep in class when I was board, when we were watching a film or I was just so tired I just couldn’t stay wake any longer.
So those were my symptoms it took a long time for My parent, Doctors, Teachers etc to believe me and do something about it.
In my next post I’ll be taking about how I coped being diagnosed while doing my GCSE’s.
