Festapalooza 2013
UNCW students gathered near the Gazebo Fields on Friday, April 26 for an afternoon of music, free food, and fun with inflatable games. Live music was provided by Nelly's Echo, a musical duo traveling to colleges around the country to spread the next wave of “funky fresh music."

Campus Celebrates the Recreation Center's Grand Reopening!
April 26th, 2013 marked the grand reopening of the Student Recreation Center, a project that has been a work-in-progress for over 5 years. Students, faculty, the Board of Trustees, visitors, and many others came out to celebrate this wonderful achievement. The Rec Center's expansion has been planned for years by classes that knew they would never be able to utilize it, now offers a variety of services, including two new swimming pools.

Timeflies at UNCW spring concert
Rob Resnick and Cal Shapiro of Timeflies performed at UNCW's annual spring showcase Thursday night, April 25 in Kenan Auditorium. The concert was hosted by UNCW's Association for Campus Entertainment.

UNCW Jazz Combos
UNCW Jazz Combos performed at Beckwith Recital Hall in the Cultural Arts Building on Wednesday April 24, 2013. These combos are comprised of UNCW jazz students and offer students an opportunity to perform improvisational jazz and explore modern jazz forms in smaller ensemble settings.

Wilmington Walks to End Violence Against Women and Girls
The annual 5K Walk to End Violence Against Women was held in Wilmington at Hugh MacRae Park on Sunday, April 21. The walk was hosted by the North Carolina Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women. Participants warmed up with a round of Zumba and Wilmington mayor Bill Saffo attended to perform the ribbon-cutting that started the walk.
The walks are an annual event held across the nation that serve to draw attention to the issue of gender-based violence and highlight UN Women’s programs to stop violence and empower women. Funds raised from these annual walks go to the UN Trust Fund which provides grants to support local and national efforts to end violence against women and girls.

UNCW's 20th Anniversary Oozeball Tournament
Hundreds of UNCW students gathered at the Gazebo Fields on Saturday morning, April 20 for the 20th annual Oozeball Tournament. Oozeball, a campus tradition, is a mud volleyball tournament and was hosted by UNCW Student Ambassadors this year. Over 140 teams registered to play this year, making this the largest Oozeball Tournament in UNCW history.

Pi Sigma Epsilon Dance Marathon
Pi Sigma Epsilon, the marketing fraternity on campus hosted UNCW’s first ever dance marathon on Saturday, April 20, raising approximately $7,500 to benefit the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital located in Wilmington.

Wilmington Rallies to Support Film Incentives
The Wilmington Regional Film Commission and hundreds of people who work in and support Wilmington’s film community held a rally Saturday, April 20. The rally was held to to fight the H994 bill, which was proposed by two local lawmakers and aims to eliminate the refundable portion of North Carolina’s film tax credit. Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo spoke at the rally in support of the North Carolina film industry.

ACE Presents: Dillon Garcia
UNCW's ACE organization brought the high-profile comedian Dillon Garcia to the Burney Center on Thursday, April 18. Having begun his professional comic career at the age of 16 and having been featured on Comedy Central, Dillon had the crowd rolling in minutes and put on a unforgettable performance.

Wilmington Students & Community Come Together to Remember...
Students and Staff of UNCW, as well as members of the surrounding community, came together late one Tuesday night, a day after the tragic Boston Marathon Bombings and 6 years after the Virginia Tech shootings. Students came together in prayer and some came forward offering either words of encouragement or a personal experience with these horrific events. The night ended with candles being lit, showing a beacon of hope against the darkness.

66th Annual Azalea Festival
Thousands of residents and visitors attended events for the 66th annual Azalea Festival last week, where there was an array of live concerts by bands like The Avett Brothers and Lynyrd Skynrd, a plethora of arts and crafts vendors, delicious fair food, and so much more.

Avett Brothers Rock Azalea Festival
North Carolina natives, The Avett Brothers, performed as the headlining show at The North Carolina Azalea Festival on Friday, April 12, in Downtown Wilmington. Tickets to the show sold out twice, but 8,000 fans managed to cram into Cape Fear Community College's parking lot just to hear their dynamic sound. Lynyrd Skynyrd performed at the festival on Thursday night and Colt Ford and The LACS performed on Saturday night.

Atlantis Kicks Off Spring Issue Release
Atlantis, UNCW's creative magazine, hosted a release party of their Spring 2013 issue at the Calico Room in Downtown Wilmington on April 11. The event featured bands such as Brother and the Harmony, Most Golden, and Clouds Make Shapes, as well as VJ super group Horse Computer and recurring Freaker raffles.

Senior Exhibit Art Show
Guests, students, faculty, and artists alike came out to the Cultural Arts Building Thursday, April 11th, to view the artwork of 17 talented artists. A reception was held at the opening of the exhibit where some of UNCW's most artistic students display their finest work. The exhibit is on display from April 11th through May 11th.

Delta Zeta Bounce-a-Thon
In front of Randall Library, Sorority Delta Zeta held a bounce-a-thon to raise money in a series of events they called 'Turtle Wars'. Turtle Wars is a fundraiser Delta Zeta put on in collaboration with the UNCW campus community to raise money and awareness for the Painted Turtle camp, a place where children with serious medical conditions can enjoy a camping experience at no cost to their families.

'Bad Boy of the Organ' performs at UNCW
Wilmington residents and students alike gathered in Kenan Auditorium Monday night, April 8, to witness a performance by the Grammy-nominated organ player, Cameron Carpenter. The concert was followed up by a meet-and-greet in the lobby for those who wished to meet the musical prodigy face to face.
