" — How long have you been standing there?”
"Quite awhile, actually. I'm surprised you've just now noticed."
Here, have some Brolin/Merthur manips. Just something I wanted to do for my OTP, please don’t judge me, it’s the first time I post something like this, couldn’t help myself.
Mad World - Gary Jules
I-I’m sorry. [Alice said backing up a little thinking he was annoyed.]
——He turned, smirking slightly. "No need to apologize." He was using a different tone of voice once he realized she didn't seem to be a threat. "Just wondering what you're doing here," he said, gesturing vaguely at the nearly empty room around them.

——"That's funny," he muttered, not bothering to turn around. "I don't remember leaving the doors open. What do you want?"

—Years of drifting from place to place, from identity to identity, had taken it's toll. He cycled through life, using his magic to age with the world, reversing when necessary and staging another dip away into a new life. Always he remained close enough. When the time came he could be there. He drifted from familiar places when technology began catching up with science, never passing it, but enough so for him to keep moving farther. He took on many positions. He was a doctor, a soldier, an explorer, an actor; getting only a taste of the life before being whisked away again to the next.
He'd lost count—or at least fought hard to believe he had—of how many years had passed since the day he'd left Camelot once and for all, and he made it a habit not to dwell on it. He'd yet to see the rebirth of the ghosts of his past. Not one reincarnation had passed by his watchful eye. Of course, centuries of waiting tended to make one lax in their observance of the outside world.
It was then, when the faces of his friends were beginning to slip from his mind—as he allowed them—that he found himself watching a familiar face on the other side of the darkened room, between rows of booths and dim lamps that hung from the ceiling, casting a smoky light down on pool tables and slow moving couples alike. He stood, leaning behind the bar, occasionally moving from his spot to maintain the level in a patron's glass or clean up a spill from a drunken mistake and urge the poor bastard to leave before making his way back to his spot.
If he could only place the young woman's face...
✝ Giving a vague shrug, she lifts her chin. “I’m not great at geography.” Of Earth, at least. It changed an awful lot in her lifetime. “Sort of. I like exploring.” She could argue the case that she’s a heir to these places, but her mother had given Sephiel some weird looks after the last time she’d tried that. “I’ve got mine too. What’s your name?” She can ask about his species later.
—"Ah, well," he muttered, holding back a chuckle. "That sure explains things." There was a note of sarcasm there, but nothing too great. "Me too, I guess, if that's what you can call it." At the question, he paused, pondering which one to give. At the moment, the best option was his most recent identity. "Jethro. And you? What's yours?"
✝ “Um.” Is he human? Something doesn’t feel quite right — maybe it’s the fact that he can see her, when she was specifically trying not to be. She has the right to wander around these places. Sort of. “If I say this is a ghost town,” she waves a hand, “but I’m not a ghost, will that help?”
–––"Not exactly, no, but 's better than nothing." He doesn't seem to notice that she didn't want to be seen, and if he does, he isn't making it obvious. "Do you make a habit of lurking around places like this? I mean, I do, but I've got my reasons."

"—'s about time y' showed up. I was almost convinced this was one of those ghost towns. You mind telling me where I am?"
