PSA
[Heads-up that Chouza is, at some point in the future, going to be moved over to @medicineandmothering while Jade tries to downsize her number of blogs]

He’s slightly frustrated that he doesn’t have the ability to actually order Chouza around like Kuroha does, and he is very afraid of her stressing herself up into a heart attack, especially with the injuries she’s recovering from.
“We should check up on him. Kuroha won’t want to have to relocate if he ends up leading guards to us.”
—-
This guy was.. defiantly dropped on his head as a baby. OR was he… Oh now that he was getting a better look, he always hear the people of this man’s type were notoriously stupid.
“No. I won’t start treatment until you pay me.” he stares Uzume dead in the eye, a stare saying “I don’t quite trust you can pay me’.

“Bu…but…” Uzume stutters, feeling cold when he recognizes that look in this man’s eyes. Oh he knows that look very well, he’s seen it his whole life. It’s often been accompanied by harsh words and rough hands grabbing, punching, feet kicking….or well, they did.
Until he started to fight back.
Gritting his teeth, Uzume reaches over and grabs hold of the man’s shirt, just about hauling him over the table and getting nose-to-nose with him. “Help. Her. She dog! Good dog! No know human stuff! Just know ouchies right now! Not like bad humans! Fix her…”
His grip tightens, and his lifts, holding the man above his head. “Or I BREAK your face!”
@thetattooedbutterfly
He sighs. He’s pretty sure Uzume’s more likely to kill them than lead them back here, but Saiha seems insistent, and Chouza would rather not see him get so frustrated he cries again.
“Okay, fine. We can head that way.”

“When uzume gets in trouble Kuroha stresses out and stress is not good for her” It’s a very simple statement. He goes to grab their money. “So you want to leave him be?” he asks back, Chouza always seemed to be apathetic to them, but he understood that wasn’t case. Too many words exchanged with alcohol loosened tongues to believe that.
—–
The way he talked. Was his brain alright? It was hard to tell. He gave Uzume another look over before turning his attention to the dog. Leg was going to have to come off.
“A procedure like this will be costly. Can you afford that?” he doubts it.
“Eh?”
“Money?” He wants money to help a nice dog like her?! WHAT?! No way no waaaaaaaaay!! Money is for food, clothes, and…important things…
Looking down at her, Uzume decides that she is VERY important. He gives her some more pets and nods. “Mhm mhm mhm! Gotta get from Kuroha, but mhm! Now help? Yes? Please? Help good doggo! Still hurt. Good dog, I help. I hold! Not let move!”
Uzume? In trouble? There’s no way that little town they’d walked through has an army anywhere near large enough to even make him break a sweat. If there was really a reason to worry, maybe Chouza would be more motivated to go. But from the little he’s heard, Uzume is going to be just fine.
“Don’t see that we have much reason to go. Unless you really want to?”

Oblivious to the growing chaos back at camp, Uzume heads right into the nearest town. The increase of people make the dog in his arms agitated again, but he pets her until she’s calm again. Gotta be an animal doctor somewhere! If people doctors exist, then animal ones must too!
Uzume wanders up and down the streets, this would be a lot easier if he could read…but eventually finds a building that has lots of animals around it, so maybe this is it! “Heeeeeeeey!” He runs up, scaring away some chickens and opens the door with his shoulder. “Hello? Need help!”
He manages to catch his breath “He ran off before I could stop him” and he cant’t keep pace with Uzume. Not even in a dream. Chouza had a better chance at that.
“He went south, I think he’s heading for the one we passed on our way here” that was logical, Uzume only had an idea of what was in only about a five mile radius around them at any given time.
“We just need to find him before he punches someone over a dog”
—-
The man was old, fat and bespectacled, but he seemed decent enough “Yes? Have your livestock fallen ill?” he asks, looking Uzume over beore seeing the dog in his arms, both the arm and the dog seem to be bleeding. “Oh dear. Or our herding dog wandered into a trap.” he gestures to a wooden table.
“Place it here.”
Five was... probably an optimistic range to be assuming for Uzume.
“Eh? Since when do you care what happens to a random townsperson?” Perhaps Chouza is just being too lazy to run after Uzume again today. He’s sure he’ll find his way back eventually.
fiibbing:
“No Uzume wait!-” too late he’s gone. Speedy when he needs to be, This is worse then him finding a strange animal. Leaving him alone, in a town, unsupervised? Oh gosh.
Saiha quickly collects his spent water skin and does his best awkward jog back to their campsite, and even then he’s pretty put of breath when he gets there “Chouza! I need you to-” huff “ go into town and make sure Uzume doesn’t destroy anything” Kuroha was too busy to deal with their antics today, thus Saiha being put in charge.
a task he wasn’t quite the fan of.
@thetattooedbutterfly
..............
“Hold on.”
“What?” Saiha left Uzume unsupervised? That’s a terrible idea. Gosh, how long had they even been out of camp for? And Kuroha really should have known better than to send off a pair with 0 ability to think for themselves.
“Which town, Saiha? There’s a lot of those and what makes you so sure Uzume would run to the nearest one?” Does Uzume even know how to read a map??
fiibbing:
“Yeah.” he’s prefer a subject change. “Hime is doing well. I worried about her with the death of- you know” he understood Chouza and Uzume were not the best of friends with the murderer of one of their friends.
“But she seems at peace with it now. Well as much as anyone can be at peace after that cave.”
“No one really talks about it in specifics, so I wouldn’t really know.” He brings up, only because others seem to forget that he wasn’t actually there.
“You said she planned to return home, right? Has that village been without a leader all this time?”
fiibbing:
“I don’t know! Tell him I’m his friend even if its a lie- I am not sure if it would have been one.” he admits the feelings with Iriya were so complicated that even he could not navigate them.
He just shakes his head.
“It hurts to think about”
All he can do in response to that is nod. As far as calming walks go, this one seems to be less calming and more depressing.
“In that case... maybe we ought to talk about people who are alive for a bit now?”
fiibbing:
“It’s not Kuroha. It’s.. the man who killed her.” is all he can explain as he rubs at his eyes. Chouza didn’t know- where should he even start?
“Kawahori Iriya. He was— he was an orphan who came to the village. We hit it off quickly, he was my best friend, Maybe more then that. But he’s the one who betrayed it. He killed gramps, all those kids. But he was obsessed with me. I learned more about him. I said I hated him, told him so, he ended up… ended up begging for me to say we were friends. I was all he had, I wwas the only one who could save him, he begged ‘please, please say it and I can die happy’ but I didn’t I stood there. I watched the life drain from his eyes and looked at him with disgust, and it was the last thing he ever saw. “
a pause, the tears really didn’t stop, it was a regret he never thought about, he never voiced. Admitting he regretted it threatened to undermine everything he ever worked for.
“I could have saved him. But I didn’t. And thats why I’ll never be anything like gramps.”
He listens to the story quietly. It was weird to hear all this about.. that guy. Chouza had only really encountered him briefly, while Kuroha was insistent that he was the key to getting back at Utsuho. He’d avoided the guy for the most part. He definitely had some creepy vibes about him. Maybe he should have been keeping a closer eye on him. He hadn’t... really ever thought about that before. But he should probably hold back on anything that sounds like condemning the man Utsuho was now crying over.
“It was understandable. You couldn’t forgive something so terrible, no one should have to.” But maybe... it all fell into the same thing they’d already been talking about. Regrets. Seemed to be a theme so far. “What do you think you’d have done differently?”
fiibbing:
“She was an itsuwaribito. You don’t come into this line of work if you have the ability to be ‘young and innocent’.” he’s assuming now, but Utsuho seemed to have a skill of assuming.
“She was probably running from something. We’re good at that. Covering up everything we hate by creating tangible things to hate. Most people in this line of work… are smart people, but people who emotionally can’t handle things. I can;t handle loss, so I push people away and save people. Kuroha was probably similar. I just hope she found some peace before death- dying so suddenly knowing-.. that’s a truly horrid death….” his mind is brought to Iriya. That face.
His failure to save…
is Utsuho crying?
Wait... what? Was thread-eyes crying? Why...?
“Oi. What’s going on with you? Kuroha’s my regret. There’s no need for you to get emotional over it.”
He’s got no way of knowing that anyone cared about that third death that occurred that day.
fiibbing:
For once he actually listens intently. He supposed he could see the reasons someone could like her. If they were perhaps a little masochistic.
“The way Uzume talks about her makes her sound like a mother. So she had some effect” he snaps a twig off the tree and tosses it into the brush. “but life really- it sucks sometimes. Takes the peopel who deserve to go least first.”
“I dunno. She... I think she knew what kind of path she was on. Always talking about what to do if something happened to her in the middle of something. Always planning ahead for her own death. But never... never really expecting it.”
“I wish I could have seen her act young and innocent even once.”
fiibbing:
“He’s nice you got that.” legs swing more. “He’s… determined, kind, nurturing, and so unlike me he doesn’t let … let people get to him like that. The kindness he shows those that wrong him is immeasurable. He’s smart, not like me, smart in another way.” he lists off, all seemed kinda weird to say “Of course he uh—… looks really attractive It was a bummer he cut off all that hair fighting you back there.” there was other things too. Yakuma was the first human he dared connect with after Iriya. Yakuma had seen him at his lowest and at his highest and it was all, it felt right,
“What about you? I assume she had better qualities then what I saw, Unless you are into that kind of thing, I guess”
“You probably... saw what there was with Kuroha. She was hot-tempered. But brilliant. She was kind to people like us, even when she yelled at us, there was always a reason. After we first met you... she tried to push us out of the group, saying we were ‘eyesores’ and stuff. But it... was to help Uzume, who she saw needed to be free to move on if he wanted. But at the time we couldn’t leave her. She was our home.”
fiibbing:
He takes a few breaths and thinks on this. He had a point. He had way too good a point. “Ill… Try. ” He promises. Then decides he needs to lighten the mood. He gives a playful punch to Chouza’s arm.
“but right now it’s me and you big guy. What else ya wanna talk about?”
He’s not sure how much to believe Utsuho. He’s doing that Utsuho thing where he changes the subject so quickly you wonder if he’d heard any of the previous conversation at all.
“Well, now that you know we know... Why the doc? Sure he’s nice. But you seem like you’d be more into someone more... fun?”
fiibbing:
He gets it. He understands it. And the thought and what ifs sit in his stomach like a stone.
“i- that-” he stops. What is he supposed to say. That sucks? Man I’m sorry? None of that seems sincere enough. He just stews in it.
“You present a good argument.” Is all he manages to say. It’s lame. And he stares down at his hands. “But how do I say it?”
It’s fine. He really doesn’t need any thoughtless comments about it. They won’t do anything to get rid of the guilt. But maybe... if he can help someone else not make the same mistake... then it’ll mean something more.
“It doesn’t matter how. Or maybe I just don’t know because I never got that far.” He rubs his neck.
“But I think anything is better than nothing. If you have to stumble through it, mumble and stutter and whatever, it’s fine. At least you did something. And you’ll have that.”
