What I love about spy kids is they’re not spying on anyone and absolutely no one cares.
“Spy” is basically a dnd class in the Spy Kids Cinematic Universe, there’s zero espionage, the word spy just refers to a collection of proficiency modifiers
I know that Peter’s Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy technically has flaws but also….it doesn’t. It’s perfect.
‘Are these magic cloaks?’ asked Pippin, looking at them. with wonder.
‘I do not know what you mean by that,’ answered the leader of the Elves. ‘They are fair garments, and the web is good, for it was made in this land. They are Elvish robes certainly, if that is what you mean. Leaf and branch, water and stone: they have the hue and beauty of all these things under the twilight of Lorien that we love; for we put the thought of all that we love into all that we make.”
- Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter 8: Farewell to Lorien
This is how I think of Jackson’s movies. Yes, there are serious flaws - Gandalf’s de-powering, Gimli as comic relief, and Faramir, namely - but come on.
Remember when the guys making their chain mail invented a new method for quickly producing large amounts of it by hand? Remember Miranda Otto walking down the street, practicing sword positions? The guys who forged all of the swords - for leads and for extras? The men and women riders who volunteered to be riders of Rohan? The costume designers who designed the inside of Theoden’s armor (which no one would ever see) so beautifully that Bernard Hill said he felt like a king? The friendships between the cast, and their size doubles, and the stuntmen?
When they made that movie, they put all that they loved into all that they made.
#just hundreds of people who went ‘sure let me try this’ #and they made something breathtaking #and then they made it 12 more times in different sizes ( @byjoveimbeinghumble )
Wait tell me more about that chainmail thing
“Kaynemaile has worked tirelessly to perfect the material science behind beautiful architectural mesh, collaborating with architects and designers on projects that embolden urban environments with positive buildings. The company’s patented polycarbonate mesh, inspired by 2,000-year-old medieval chainmail, was initially created for the armor and weapons seen in the The Lord of The Rings movie trilogy and is now used on major architectural projects around the world.
“The film’s art director and Kaynemaile’s founder Kayne Horsham worked with his team to construct each garment from plastic plumbing tubes, coating them in pure silver. Once filming wrapped, Horsham dedicated himself to creating a change to the liquid state assembly process to mass produce the polycarbonate chainmail for architectural applications — products that were light, but strong enough to protect the interior or exterior of a building. Now an industry-leading manufacturer, Kaynemaile produces mesh for everything from small interior screens to large scale exterior façades. Their mesh is easy to install and can be custom created for specialized applications.”

Kaynemaile's patented mesh façade systems are incredibly lightweight and easy to install while bringing a bold look to any scale building.
YOU GUYS
they took forced perspective and scaled sets to a new level by adding moving set pieces to create the illusion that the hobbits and dwarves were much smaller than everyone else even when the camera moved.
every scene you see in the 11+ hours of glory that is the LOTR masterpiece is most like ridiculously elaborate or expensive–from model towers to the all-new motion capture technology used for gollum to the costumes and sets to the aerial on location shots of mother-fracking new zealand and the big impressive battle scenes and horse charges.
but then the story and the screenplay too–there is just SO much lore that is there in the background lurking if you want to look for it, yet it still remains simplified for the average viewer. Crazy impressive feat.
And the acting is heartfelt and real and makes you love the characters.
ALSO DON’T GET ME STARTED ON FREAKING HOWARD SHORE AND HIS 100+ HEARTSHATTERINGLY BEAUTIFUL LIETMOTIFS AND BRILLIANT SUBTLE VARIATIONS IN THE FLIPPING 13 HOUR SOUNDTRACK. AND ENYA SINGING IN REAL ELVISH.
They forged an entire sword for Denethor even though he would never draw it onscreen just so John Noble would have the feel of carrying a real sword at his side
They made every single cup and plate and bowl because they didn’t want someone to say, “Hey, I have those at home!”
Turns out we have a secret weapon! An immigrant you know and love who’s unafraid to step in! He’s constantly confusin’, confoundin’ the British henchmen – Everyone give it up for America’s favorite fighting Frenchman! LAFAYETTE! Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette in HAMILTON

There’s this girl at my school and she’s really nice and I remember sometime last year at one point she would carry a clicker around and click it everytime she had a happy thought/something good happened/she laughed etc. It was always kind of cute how you’d just hear the little click every once in a while throughout class it always made me smile knowing that it was bc something made her feel happy idk
she was training herself to be happy oh my god
does it work???? Imagine feeling yourself slipping into depression and you just click a few times and your brain says “wait, this is the sound of happiness I have to release serotonin”
She fucking Pavlov’d herself, the absolute madwoman

3,000-Year-Old Cooking Mistake Revealed
Archaeologists in Denmark have found evidence of a 3,000 year-old cooking mistake that casts some light into the everyday life of Scandinavian Bronze Age people.
Clear evidence for one of the most common mistakes in the kitchen – burning food – lay in a clay pot that was excavated in central Jutland, Denmark.
The clay vessel was found, upturned and in near mint condition, at the bottom of what was once a waste pit.
“The pot is typical for cooking vessels in this region of Denmark. It was accompanied by several other objects fitting the dating,” archaeologist Kaj F. Rasmussen from Museum Silkeborg, Denmark, told Discovery News. Read more.
[fucks up dinner and just straight-up buries the evidence] We’re Getting Ancient Pizza Tonight, Girls
one time when i was 13 i burned pudding and couldn’t get it out of the pot and i was so ashamed i buried it in the backyard so no one would know
i see we’ve changed very little as a species
so that means in 3000 years some archaeologist is gonna dig up that pot and laugh at you
idk who needs to hear this but when your english teacher asks you to explain why an author chose to use a specific metaphor or literary device, it’s not because you won’t be able to function in real-world society without the essential knowledge of gatsby’s green light or whatever, it’s because that process develops your abilities to parse a text for meaning and fill in gaps in information by yourself, and if you’re wondering what happens when you DON’T develop an adult level of reading comprehension, look no further than the dizzying array of examples right here on tumblr dot com

it's sad after this is "over" (once momentum dies down) ppl will go back to their daily lives patting themselves on the back like yes thats enough activism for today. and I'm thankful for those who weren't performative with it but again once it dies down people can go back to what they were doing before but I can't stop being black.
i wake up and im black, I go to sleep and I'm black, i eat and I'm black, and I drive and im black. I eat with my family and you know they're black too. black lives matter isnt a trend for me and it's not something that solely comes to play when the death of a black person gets wide media coverage and the images or video of their death is spread around in the way a white person's isnt.
what I'm saying is that black lives matter is not a brief thing for me, I cannot tear off this black skin and live without fear of the police killing me or killing my brother or killing my mother or killing my father. I was driving yesterday, and there was a cop car at the intersection. I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm exactly at the speed limit, I'm paying attention to my surroundings on the road but I tense anyways.
why? Because I am a black girl every second of my life and this cop at the intersection might be the cause of me laying six feet under and you raising your voice for black lives after months of ongoing silence.
i have had this trauma since I was 7 years old and my dad sat me down one day and said people will hate you for looking like me, do you get it?
if I have had to carry this pain since I was a grade schooler who should have just been skipping rope and not learning that someone's hatred for the color of my skin could be my death sentence. then I think you can carry black voices, support black businesses, and listen when we say black lives matter...every moment of the year.
can you do it? can you continue when momentum dies down? can you call yourself an ally to the black community not when its popular?
Percy got dumped by Rachel in the middle of a war and couldn’t bring himself to care I love that kid so much 😭
Also when Annabeth lowkey half-broke up w him when she called him a coward he was like ok I’m gna go save the world and their next scene together is him calling her for reinforcements in battle
Percy Jackson said i don’t really have the time for this & he meant it
you gonna dive and get it? AHKFHSJD
if you’re still taking any requests, percy and paul hcs? or just general jackson-blofis family dynamic?
oh boy i love this so much
percy takes a while to trust paul
this kid has not had the best track record with father figures so he was hesitant to say the very least when he found out about paul
percy is very good at reading people so he didn’t really find any reasons to distrust paul when they first met but stil... his past and his protectiveness of his mom were telling him to be on the lookout
so he spent the first few months overanalyzing every single thing paul did and said
paul knows teenagers because he’s a high school student so he knew he was being scrutinized
he also knew something was up with percy that he didn’t know but he knew percy was a good kid (a good kid, a good son) and that it was important to sally that they got along so he didn’t push anything
when paul consulted percy about proposing to sally was when percy started to make his mind about him. like this guy thinks i’m respectable enough to ask MY opinion? AND he hasn’t called me names or hit me a single time? interesting
so he starts to open up a bit
paul notices thing change and starts to make more attempts to bond with him, like taking him out and stuff and they start becoming closer
paul realizes that percy is actually very funny and has all these interests that he hadn’t shared before and basically was a lot cooler and i guess more vulnerable that he’d initially let on
like i’ve said before percy is a go big or go home kind of person when it comes to feelings so the minute he lets himself get close to paul it’s OVER. he will do anything for this man and he wants to impress him so bad and make him proud
and the thing is paul wants the same kind of validation from percy because he can see how good of a person he is and how he treats the people he loves and he wants to earn that kind of affection too
so when percy comes back from tartarus he is kind of distant and paul does his best to respect his space and offer support, and it works so percy ends up relying more on paul and coming to him more with his problems especially girl trouble
side note: paul loves annabeth and thinks she’s hilarious
when sally gets pregnant and percy realizes he’s gonna have a sister whose father is paul he really realizes he is FAMILY. the ‘dad’ part of stepdad becomes a lot more meaningful to him
percy is usually the one who is vocal about his feelings but paul is the one who says i love you first. it happens on percy’s seventeenth birthday and he is so happy to hear that because his dad just wouldn’t say that as bluntly and i’m not even going to talk about gabe
when he’s a couple of years older he never calls paul ‘paul’ anymore, just dad
