“What the hell is your problem, West?!” Audrey yelled across the parking lot at the boy she tried very hard to kick like a bad habit she had out grown. For the past few days she had been doing a decent job of avoiding him despite most of her friends constantly pointing him out every time they saw him near by. It was a small campus though and she knew that he would eventually confront her and call her out on her shit once again. She had even tried to convince her dad to pay the administration to have the boy expelled but to her displeasure he denied the request. “I’ve ignored you all week, why don’t you get the point already? I don’t want anything to do with you so just say whatever you have to say now once and for all.”

“Come on,” he repeated over and over through gritted teeth. This was the second time he had caught her doing this. The first time, his heart sank and panic courses through his body as he tried to get her to wake up. “Don’t do this to me please, please, please, not again...” Each passing second now only angered him. This second time was different... this time he was filled with more anger than panic and worry. How was it possible for someone to want to end their life this badly? Had the progress they made over the past few weeks been all a part of her plan to distract him so she could try agin when he least expected it? Whatever it was, it was stupid and Jack was beginning to think that she didn’t care at all about him either. He had decided to make it his goal for her to never feel alone or unworthy of each breath she took. He loved her more than he thought was possible, but now it angered him to think that Scarlett didn’t care enough about him to even try living. “Open your eyes! Please!” he yelled right before his shot open.

It was a dream. A nightmare really. His chest felt heavy and the room felt like it were a thousand degrees. He quickly looked to the space next to him on the bed and as soon as he saw her sleeping soundly next to him, a wave of relief washed over him. “It wasn’t real,” he whispered, placing his hand on her stomach that had been growing steadily over the past few months. This development scared him more than he’d ever let on, especially after everything Scarlett went through when she lost their first child. There wasn’t a single day he didn’t think about what things might have been like had he known and been there for Scarlett. It was impossible to turn back time though but it scared him to death to think of things spiraling the way they had before.

There weren’t many things that made Elise feel uncomfortable; she always tried keeping an open mind to things and gave the benefit of the doubt more often than she probably should. This situation wasn’t something she didn’t think she was going to be bothered by — at least not this soon. She had been gone only a few days for an impromptu trip to see her brother who insisted she had to fly out to San Diego to meet the woman he was going to marry. It was only three days, but she couldn’t help but think about a girl she had just recently started seeing. That is exactly what the problem was though; they had only started seeing each other a few weeks ago and that sort of meant that they weren’t even being exclusive. Still, it caught her off guard and it brought an unwelcome sick feeling to her stomach when she bumped into a girl who had just walked out of Lydia’s apartment the second that Elise stepped into the hallway.

“Benefit of the doubt,” she thought as she crossed paths with the girl who disappeared out of the building quickly. Shaking her head at herself, she brought her hand to the door and knocked.
