2026. Can’t believe I’m sitting here typing 2026. You should be 60 this year, Mom. Your birthday was 4 days ago. The world just goes on and on and I walk around this earth trying to pretend that that’s okay. I talked to dad for a while and he called back a couple hours later to say it was your birthday. I knew from the second I opened my eyes that morning, but I get it. We spend so much energy trying to push down the pain, sometimes it just works.
In the six years since you’ve been gone so much has changed. Your little best friend who was 5 when you died will be 12 this year. She’s an amazing little person because you helped raised her. I really struggle with not being able to call you for the little things. I want to call and say “mom, how old was I when I first started ______”. It’s hard to do motherhood without your mother. She misses you so much. Towards the end, you were worried she would one day forget you. I promise that will never happen.
There’s someone you never met and she’s 4 now. She looks exactly like you, you really wouldn’t believe it. She wants to know why we can’t visit you or call you. None of my explanations are ever enough for her. Not for me either honestly. But I promise I will never stop showing her pictures and sharing stories.
As for me, I’m trucking along. Still doing the corporate America thing. I can’t say I hate it, it’s really provided me a ton of opportunities and blessings that I’m so grateful for. This year will be our 7th wedding anniversary. I’m so glad you were there almost 7 years ago.
I guess that’s all for now, Mom. Missing you always. Until we meet again.
