The past few days of Ava’s life had been what she thought qualified for an absolute nightmare. Being sucked into a new strange city against her will and alone seemed to be par for the course. Stumbling past people as they celebrated, these festivals really drove home how lonely Ava was. How she had no friends or family, and missed those who probably wouldn’t give her the time of day. That she didn’t deserve them anyway...
Avoiding crowds, Ava took odd turns and back alleys in an attempt to stay away from cruel eyes. Finally reaching a spot along the coast that was clear of people, she closes her eyes and focuses on her breathing to attempt to remain calm. Her folly, however, was in her neglect a man was able to grab her arm and pull her back. This might have been a stranger seeking to see if she was alright, which was the only logically conclusion she could think of in a slit second.
“I-I’m alright. I just-” But then the stranger’s features come into focus, and Ava goes numb. His flesh, rotted and grotesque, is barely hanging onto his bones as he attempts to bring her arm to his mouth. Pulling herself free, Ava does what is pure instinct. She stretches her hands outward, and bright, brilliant fire douses the man. He doesn’t scream, but crumbles to the ground as the flames begin to turn him to ash.
Ava turns to run, but another stranger with the same affliction grabs her. Her skin, turning molten to the touch, melts the offender, and all others that had suddenly began to try to grab and devour her. Breaking into a run, she tries her best to avoid these monsters as she sees them crawl out of the ocean. She panics, her fear over coming her as she runs right into someone.
“NO MORE! I-” Claws, molten red and yellow, reach out to melt this monster as well except... this wasn’t a monster. This was a normal person. Or at least they were rotting flesh.
“Ah-... Sorry! Are... Are you alright?”
