the thing with michael knowing at the beginning of 15x19 that god would kill him and then going back to him anyway is that like. yes part of it is him finding himself truly alone for the first time in eons (something 15x08 established he Did Not Want) and not being able to deal with it and falling back on what he knew best (being a good son) out of grief and misery at his only friend's death but i mean. he KNEW god would kill him. he ADMITTED he was hiding from him. he would have to have some active death wish going on there somewhere deep inside. so the question kind of becomes well why didn't he just kill himself and be done with it if he was so torn up. and well you see it's because he's in adam's body. and he could never bring himself to harm adam and it's ALL he has left of him. and then it's like okay well why didn't he just leave adam's body and then kill himself. and it's for the exact same reasons. if he left then adam's body would be cold and it's All He Has Left Of Him. like if we're continuing down this line of thought it's literally about how michael knew god would kill him and kind of wanted him to do it because he wanted to be put out of his misery and couldn't bring himself to do it.

I mean it’s kinda the real life tragedy of love exaggerated, innit? Irl people die young or one person dies old and another person dies even older. At the end of it all someone gets left behind and has to learn how to move on after that. And for the one who dies you know you’re leaving them behind. You know you’re dooming them to moving on and if you believe in an afterlife god only knows how long you’ll be waiting for them on the other side. The tragedy of the immortal loving the mortal takes those feelings we all know about and rips your heart out about it.

Im being so serious when I say I ONLY like midam as a shared body ship, or at least one where they CAN be when they want to be. Like im so sorry but if these guys were in separate bodies for some reason and found their way back to each other, Adam is immediately telling Michael to possess him again and Michael is ONLY hesitating out of guilt over whats happened, but he wants to JUST as much.

the second Adam makes it clear how much he wants Michael back, Michael is NOT hesitating anymore. He is ditching whatever body he was in and wrapping his grace around Adam's soul IMMEDIATELY

every day i wake up and think about adam, after episode 19, being constantly cold. so cold he wears layers upon layers of clothes to try and make up for the lost, endless warmth he had grown so used and so attached to. so cold that, he fills up a bathtub and spends a good amount of time soaking in hot water, as hot as he can get it to be. and he knows that it’s not good to do that every day but for a moment, he feels warmer both physically and emotionally. for just a moment, before something in him — next to that hollow place that, no matter how bitter he feels, will always be there to offer a home to a familiar ball of archangel grace — breaks. as fragile as glass. and he gets out of the water and it’s like blades going through his chest and throat and he hates all of this. but mostly, in that moment, he hates how despite the steam and the color of his heated skin the water never really felt and will never ever feel warm — not like michael was.

RETURN OF THE MIDAM MONARCH

no matter how many years pass every so often i'll just get adam's expression right before he asks michael "you still care about that? after he left you in the cage?" stuck in my head because it is, i think, a genuinely touching moment. like seriously. michael is not and has never been a good person by any standard we as humans would assign (he's literally mr. "authoritarianism for the win") and he's so powerful that the handcuffs that held his alternate universe self while in his true vessel had zero fucking effect on him (opened a door to purgatory in them, even) and he's Mighty and Terrifying and A Genuine Threat To Everyone Around Him and adam KNOWS all of this. there is no world in which adam does not know this. michael is in his body and has been in his body for 1000+ hell years and they have been sitting in a cage together all that time. and the prince of the host, guy who literally slammed his own little brother that he raised into said cage just for going against god, stares down at adam from where he's walked up the stairs to make himself seem bigger—to lord himself above him, as it were, because he's been backed into a corner and that is his default response even now because He Is Not A Good Person—and raises his voice at him, snaps at him, and adam just looks at him, after rolling his eyes because clearly the potential wrath of the most powerful archangel ever means absolutely fucking nothing to him, and sees nothing but his friend in pain. struggling. even in freedom, they still only have each other. and as such, some guy from minnesota becomes the first person in all of history who can directly confront michael's unshakeable faith in god ("does it hurt to ask the question?") and face absolutely zero retribution about it. because adam doesn't give a shit about god! he has no ulterior motives! his concern is for michael and michael alone! he's trying to understand! and michael is In His Body! he Knows that! absolutely insane exchange of dialogue to me. adam the former viceroy of heaven is actively yelling at you because you, tiny little human that you are, have actually managed to back him into a corner with words alone. WHAT is this face

you wake up in heaven one day, the new one, where you can interact with others, and instead of being alone, adam is on your couch. you go to talk to him, but after sitting down next to him he's wrong. (his posture is too straight, his face too blank, his eyes too cold. he's almost fuzzy around the edges like looking at the sun. he radiates heat.) you start to talk to him, but as soon as he notices you can see him he vanishes like he was never there.

the next time you see adam, he's more normal. he's bubbly and full of laughs, his face crinkles when he smiles, and his eyes are expressive and full of warmth (why do they look so old?). he gives you a hug (you pretend not to notice when he flinches almost imperceptably as you wrap your arms around him). hating how it feels coming from your lips you ask what was wrong with him the last time you saw him. he looks confused (why? that was him wasnt it?) before smiling softly and saying it must've been michael (who??). through leaden lips (wasn't heaven supposed to be happy? why is asking so hard?) you ask how he died (another flinch). then he explains. (what happened to your child?)
