Abraham “Abe” Miller is a contemporary expressionist painter who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., 1951, to parents who emigrated from Poland. Born into a family with musical talents, Abe became a composer and has written dozens of songs. At age 20 he married and, always the entrepreneur, went into the retail business. Abe later worked at a real estate firm as vice president of acquisitions and dispositions, before opening Signature Silver, then Signature Art Gallery.
Today after surviving a 100-day COVID coma and at age 70, Abe paints spontaneous self-taught art, largely in a unique style of outsider abstract expressionism. He hopes that his paintings will be appreciated and inspire others to explore life’s joys and their creative talents to the fullest.
I never even picked up a paintbrush or visited an art museum until the age of 69. I am a self-taught artist who only began painting suddenly after surviving a 100 day coma and a 5% chance to live brought on by COVID. There have been proposed theories connecting my spontaneous artistic talent with my near death experience in the way of collective unconscious or synesthesia. I do not know how I woke up to become an artist, only that it is a miracle I am grateful for. My paintings are spontaneous and abstract, and I am constantly experimenting through intuition. I use my first creative love as a composer, music, to inspire these works.
