Tim Gent - Rising Son
FRANK IS ACTIVE. ATTENTION, FRANK IS ACTIVE.
It’s coming. I feel it in my bones. Boy Don’t Cry. So soon.

You may have noticed that name Duckwrth if you peeped the “Get Uugly” track a few weeks ago. Well he’s at it again with the bangers on “LOWRIDR”. The song is smooth, putting you on a wave till the very end. Once again Duckwrth clinches the Release Of The Week.
SqueakPIVOT - Diamonds4Irene

Not the “newest” song out there, since theWHOevers released it about a month ago, but it is definitely the funkiest song I’ve heard in a while, and for that, it definitely deserves the Release Of The Week. This is R U Down?

I’ve stumbled upon a lot of stuff this week, but this was my favourite. Nigerian-American rapper, MoRuf put together a beautiful little 8-track EP with smooth jazzy samples and great lyricism. This is a precursor to his highly anticipated MOOLODIC project. Loosies is chill, and fits nicely with the end of summer vibes-- something you’ll want to sit back and bob to. Here we see him carving his place in Soul-Hop.
Duckwrth - GET UUGLY ft. Georgia Anne Muldrow
This song feels fun.
Jesse Boykins III - Likeminded ft. Luke James
A track from his latest album, Bartholomew.
Knxwledge - Wrkwrkwrk
Black Party - Show Me ft. KARI FAUX
I spotted this on a repost by Isaiah Rashad, and it’s quite the banger.
OKAY-KAYA - Durer
A sweet surprise by OKAY-KAYA.

So with my Wayhome frenzy, I missed the Release of the Week last week. No one should be surprised that I’m choosing HONNE’s Warn On A Cold Night. I’ve waited for this album for months, and they did not disappoint. Dropping July 22nd, the album is a smooth electro-RnB mix that will really put you in the mood. If you havent already, check out Honne on soundcloud or spotify, and if you’re really down, they play in Toronto on August 10th at the Mod Club Theatre.

When Toro y Moi dropped a track 4 hours ago, I had no choice but to get down and jiggy. “Grown Up Calls” is a very relaxed, jazzy, coffee house song. I especially love the funk on the bass, and Toro carries it all so nicely. Listen for the ending of the song; it takes you on a bit of a psychedelic trip.
“Grown Up Calls” is the Release of the Week.

I heard this song and stored it under my likes for future reference, then surprisingly enough, BRAIDS happened to be the first act I saw at Wayhome, and they completely amazed me. Their ghostly electronic sound, paired with Raphaelle Standell-Preston’s strong vocals is truly enchanting. They have an undeniableI shoegaze-alternative rock vibe that pulls you in, and keeps you listening. This is BRAIDS.
Wayhome 2016
When I bought my ticket in February, I didn’t know what to expect from the 3-day July festtival. Only in it’s second year, Wayhome pulled me in with is stunning lineup: LCD Sound System, Arcade Fire, FKA Twigs, Mac Demarco, Foals, and my personal favourite... M83. I’ve waited a long time (5 years) to see M83, and I can honestly say, it was a spiritually moving performance. M83 put me in a trance, and I didn’t want to leave.
Aside from it’s headliners, Wayhome also had a number of great smaller acts. I had the opportunity to do what I love--discover new music. Some real goodies I caught were BRAIDS, Lucius, The Last Shadow Puppets, Robert Delong, & Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Wayhome was a beautiful time, and if you ever get the chance, it’s definitely worth going to.
Week Of July 10-16th 2016 R.O.T.W
Well, it’s July 16th, so you know what that means... ABRA dropped her new album yesterday. It’s been a year since the RnB singer followed up ROSE, and with PRINCESS, you’re in for a treat. As she continues to give a moody 80s/90s Pop/RnB vibe that sets her apart on the 6-track album, it’s also exciting to see ABRA finding her own sound through this album.
The song that really caught my ears has to be “VEGAS”. I can already see myself strutting around like a boss ass bitch to this song. It’s smooth, it’s fun, it’s ABRA.
I was a fan of ROSE, and I’m really happy to see the end result of PRINCESS.
It was a tough choice between ABRA and HONNE, but I’ve gotta give it to my girl for Release Of The Week.
