Danny dragged his palms to cup Phantom’s neck and made a sound against their lips, breaking the kiss. “Holy fucking shit, cool down, dude.”
Phantom blinked at him, dumbfounded, and it took him a second too long to realize Danny was talking about his overheating system.
“I don't think we would continue if I did. This… just stacks on top of everything else.” he ducked his head down self-consciously, soft light from his eyes tinting their pressed up lower halves. “Plus, I don't want to. I'll kindly let you know when I'm about to combust.”
Danny blew out his cheeks, as if he tried to contain a laugh. “That’s so fucked up to worry about right now. I mean, I expected something like this, with the overheating and stuff, but—” Danny trailed off, eyes settling on Phantom’s lips for a moment, then he continued. “But I didn’t think— you’d be like a goddamn ticking bomb! You’re like Hulk, dude!”
Phantom stared at him, mouth open, before snorting “That’s extremely intriguing— why the fuck would you say that.”
Danny tipped his head back against the wall and ran his fingers through Phantom’s undercut as he explained. “Yeah, like, you remember that shitty movie? When he couldn’t fuck that black-haired chick cuz’ he would turn green and shit? And then kill her, probably? Jeez, that was so funny— we should watch it again, dude.”
With hands still gripping Danny’s sides, Phantom unfocused his vision as he recalled the memory of the two of them enjoying a superhero movie marathon on a lazy weekend. It was fuzzy with all the heat pooling in his optics, but he was still able to refocus once he finished, with laughter bursting past his mouth. “Holy shit, you’re right! You are right— that was— yeah, we should definitely watch it again.”
“Damn, sweet.” Danny shot him a grin as they both immersed back into snicker, fingers trailing on their own across each others’ skin, real or artificial. Phantom almost couldn’t believe how natural it felt to hold Danny in his arms this way, as if they were just hanging out like usual after Phantom’s check-up. Almost couldn't believe how easy it was to entertain a casual conversation in their state. It was comforting to know that even in a new context, the relationship he learned to so deeply cherish with his creator wouldn’t change at all.
