and then the day arrives when todd can't remember what neil's voice sounded like, and the shirt he kept from him has long lost neil's scent and todd throws up and sobs, burying his face in neil's old school blazer, still hanging in their room with all its achievement pins, and todd desperately tries to find some last trace of neil in it, but he's gone, he's gone, he's gone
I love this scene when Charlie tells Todd Neil is alive and then Neil comes out from hiding behind the door and then Neil and Todd get married

Thinking about Carpe Diem and the cinematography of falling leaves to falling snow.
Seasons as cyclical as generations. It's tapestries and banners. It’s photographs on the wall. A structure, a system; tradition in the bones of buildings and boys.
There's a choice to be made - Nolan's hollow, ceremonial Light of Knowledge, or Neil's scavenged, man-made God of the Cave?
They’re children living for the future through a lens of past. Fireside stories embraced by woodland caves. They chant, dance, and recite from a sacred book - the heirloom they claim from a father they chose.
The window is finally open, but time froze at Welton lake. Forever winter. Forever youth. A moment in time, a feeling, a community turned to dust.
It's all so fleeting. Carpe Diem. Teenage years, childhood, a lifetime in three months. It’s a tragedy of classical epics.
The tale is old, but this wound is fresh. Falling to your knees. Shouting at the sky, praying and wailing, and clutching at the earth.
But the snow never stops.
Spring is up to us.
There's a deleted scene in Dead Poets Society where Todd yawps, "YEA ART THOU THERE!"
I was thinking of why this scene was deleted, and came up with a theory of why it was.
In this scene after Neil's death, Todd yawps "NEIL!" As we know, this is the loudest word he says in the movie.
Not including that lake scene means that "NEIL" was the loudest word Todd ever said, not the phrase, "YEA ART THOU THERE!" It makes Todd's yawp of "NEIL" much more meaningful and monumental.
I had a thought today
Basically Todd is a worried boyfriend and can’t sleep the night after the play because Neil is away and mr perry seemed so mad
So he just, sneaks out and goes to Neil’s house to check
He tries sneaking in from a door/window, whatever, doesn’t matter
The point is than war veteran mr perry hears said door/window open and someone come in, and that wakes him up
He immediately thinks it was Neil who was sneaking out or smth, and very mad goes to his room.
At the same time as this, Neil is in his office, gun in hand, not having yet fired. Neil doesn’t hear him.
Todd managed to get in but is lost because he literally never went to his house before plus it’s dark and he doesn’t dare to switch on the light, plus he’s really trying to be careful to not make noise
When mr perry sees the window open he just puts two and two together, which means than sound of one thing opening and the sound of someone falling equals Neil sneaking out
Mrs perry is still asleep
So mr perry goes around all rooms checking and just like in the movie, enters into the office. Except Neil, startled, gun in hand, sees his father so mad and realizes than it’s either his father or him. Either he dies and breaks free from his father, or his father dies and he breaks free from his father. Was it a rash, reckless decision? Or an accident from being startled while having a gun on his hand? Neil doesn’t know, what he knows is than two seconds later his father is bleeding on the floor.
The noise of the gun obviously scares Todd who forgets about being careful and just runs to where the noise came from, and finds the whole scene before him: Neil, shirtless, still sitting on his father’s chair and just staring in shock, gun still in hand, and his father on the floor, and the red blood.
Anyway they run away after that.
