If people could stop maybe trying to guilt trip actual csa survivors into liking a fictional character using their trauma that would be really great, thanks.

In brighter news, I finally started working on the Maxanor blog I always wanted to make n.n
Bs wank under the cut, because I need to scream into the void. This is not a pleasant post, so this is your only warning. If you read it and get mad, idk what to tell you.
Never once have I felt as uncomfortable and quite frankly degraded as I do right now, and I’ve seen some stuff. All because I don’t like a fictional character and a fictional ship (one I actually used to enjoy.)
I’m tired of being called a moron, or idiot or purity fetishist (this is not an exaggeration- these exact insults have been used) I’m tired of feeling so unwelcome in a fandom I’ve been in since the beginning. I’m tired of opening a blog I’ve brought so far and once used to be so excited about, only to close the window a few minutes later because I just can’t handle being on it. I’m tired of being belittled and told I’m a horrible human being with no empathy because I have major problems with the actions of a fan favorite character (and the irony being I’d have a lot more understanding and empathy if I wasn’t being beaten into the ground over it)
I see posts criticizing people for not liking Si/ver or being “hateful” towards him when he’s a trauma survivor/csa. Well you know what? So am I! So was my abuser. I see this a lot lately, as if some of us who disapprove of his actions aren’t lgbt, aren’t csa or abuse survivors, aren’t woc/moc, aren’t disabled ourselves. When I see posts belittling people like me who dislike Si/ver’s actions, and telling me how stupid I am for not liking him, what I hear is “You’re an awful person for not forgiving your abuser! He had his reasons! He deserves to be forgiven because he’s had a hard life and you’re a monster if you don’t!!” Literally, people trying to weaponize the type of trauma I suffered to try and guilt me and others like me into liking a fictional character. I shouldn’t have to put my trauma out there as some sort of permit as to why I don’t like a character!
And no, I am not equating what Si/ver did to what happened to me, and I am not saying people are horrible for liking him. I’m saying he’s done things that make me deeply uncomfortable and that I have a very hard time forgiving in light of having my own agency invaded, and that there are reasons for it and I wish they would be respected.
Here’s the other irony in it all- I actually don’t have that much hate for Silver as a character. I actually understand quite well why he did what he did.But the constant being beaten over the head with it and made to feel like crap is what makes me lose my sympathy and empathy.
Wait, in what way is the main character’s canon relationship a side ship? What did I miss?
#it’s not even the most popular ship so stop ranting about it ‘taking over’ lol #i am totally here for the ladies but please #it’s not taking over when there’s twice the amount of fic for a non-canon ship [via]
Black Sails + some of the LGBT tropes they invented
If you haven’t watched this show yet, you’ve really been missing out.
Thomas Hamilton as Ariadne & Multiple layers of mythology
Don’t read if you haven’t watched s4ep1-5 of ‘Black Sails’ yet! Spoilers for the first half of season 4 and speculation for the rest of it!
If…if (!) Thomas indeed turns out to be alive, then the show foreshadowed this revelation a long time ago.
In the Hamiltons’ house, there was a painting of Ariadne (read: Thomas) being abandoned by Theseus (read: James).
Ariadne (ie, Thomas) is abandoned; she’s alone, scared and crying:
But…Ariadne isn’t just abandoned: Later on, Ariadne is found! First Theseus leaves her. Then she is discovered by Dionysos.
What if Flint is both? The guy who leaves Ariadne and the one who finds her?
What if James is both: Theseus AND Dionysos?
Theseus, the beautiful, classical Greek hero left Ariadne and sailed away on a ship with black sails (!): That’s James McGraw.
Dionysos, the uncivilised, savage God, with his retinue of satyrs and wild fauns, found Ariadne and gave her the love she deserved: That’s Flint.
I can’t believe I didn’t see this earlier. But it was all there.
The story was never just about someone being abandoned and left behind; it was always a story about someone being found again…

The Paintings used in ‘Black Sails’ (Part 13) and Marcus Aurelius’ “Meditations”
So, in case you didn’t believe me when I said there were dick jokes in the paintings, here comes further circumstantial evidence…
In Part 4 of my Black Sails art post series, I pointed out that the entire Admiralty scene in s2ep5 is beautifully choreographed so as to make sure the dialogue is perfectly in sync with all those naval paintings appearing in the frame.
Well, the Admiralty scene wasn’t the only scene that was composed and choreographed so meticulously: The same is true for “James’s homecoming scene” (after three months at sea) in the very same episode.
If s2ep5 is already your favourite episode because of the Big Reveal™, I’ve got a little surprise in store for you: s2ep5 is also a well-choreographed masterpiece.
Let’s start with a painting we haven’t discussed yet:
(x)
It’s Jacob Jordaens’ famous ‘Allegory of Fruitfulness’ from the Wallace Collection:
What’s important to keep in mind is that the whole “homecoming scene” mirrors the overall London storyline: Miranda is the one welcoming James into their home in the screenshot above. This reflects the fact that she was also the first one to welcome James into her bed or, rather, carriage. The above scene mirrors the fact that she was the one who was interested in James first, thus ‘opening the door’ for a future relationship between him and her husband. On the surface of the text, the above scene shows no more than a handshake, yet subtextually it is recapitulating what we already know: Miranda (not Thomas) welcomed James into their relationship first.
We will see that this entire “homecoming scene” is structured in such a way that it mirrors and summarizes the overall London narrative. The whole scene in that sitting room is the London storyline in a nutshell.

I hate that some people are so purposely obtuse that they need disclaimers for every single thing, like when women say “men are…” you know good and goddamn well they aren’t referring to every single man. It’s billions of us, how the fuck would they know all of us?
Whenever I hear these statements, I interpret it as “Not all men, but enough men to make this a prominent issue amongst men”
Same shit with “white people are…” Get the fuck out your feelings and actually listen so you can address the concerns of these people instead of defending people that ain’t shit.

“Why do you take politics so personally.”
What if I told you
that these policies
affect me personally?
Sure sign of privilege if you think politics is just a game or a topic of conversation and not life or death.
I did what anyone would have done when confronted with the same impossible choices. (x)
