“Can I kiss you?”
Matsukawa looks up in shock at your words, his phone nearly falling out of his hands when he’d loosen his grip. “I’m sorry?”
“Can I kiss you?” You repeat. You're standing more confidently now, though you aren’t sure where it came from, he only asked you to repeat yourself.
He looks to the side as if he’s waiting for someone else to answer for him, only turning back towards you when he noticed that everyone who was around him had found refuge behind a bush. How discreet.
“Are you sure you want to do that?” He chuckled quietly, hopeful that some lower form of humor would ease his nerves. “I mean, we’re both guys.”
“If I didn’t want to, I wouldn’t have asked.” You retort, stance now slack at his dodging. “You can say no you know, I’m sorry for pressuring you.”
He waves his hands frantically in front of him, resting his hand on his neck in apology after. “It’s not that I don’t want to it’s just—”
“You’re afraid things will change between us? Or something else?”
“Maybe both?”
“You don’t seem so sure.”
“You caught me off guard!” He exclaimed, hiding his face between his hands. “You don’t go about asking people randomly if you can kiss them.”
“Then just say no.” You question, tilting your head.
He lets out a loud, dramatic, groan. “You, you’re actually insufferable.” He says, smushing your cheeks together with one hand. He presses a quick peck to your lips when you go to say something, pulling back with an embarrassed flush to his cheeks. “There.”
You grin at him, giving him a thumbs up. “Wasn’t that hard now was it!”
“Hey, don’t give me a thumbs up after we kiss.” He says, swatting your hand down. “That’s like, dapping me up after we’ve um… you know what never mind.” He mumbles the last part, the blush on his cheeks growing.
There’s a beat of silence before you finally take in his words, doubling over in laughter when a visible tick mark appears on his forehead.
“You’re kidding me, Issei!” You howled, hitting his shoulder repeatedly, hard. “Take me out to dinner first.”
“Fine.”
It’s like a flick of a light switch how fast your laughter seized, was it even that funny in the first place?
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
“We’ve kissed, you implied it, might as well right?”
You hum, tutting your head to the side in agreement. You can see the sweat piling on his forehead. “Alright.” he sighed in relief at your answer, there were numerous cheers near the non-suspicious bush.
You wear a proud grin when you walk beside him, “I always knew you were practically in love with me.”
He shoves your shoulder, smiling when you nearly lost your balance. “Shut up.”
God I love the Ushiten ship so much. Tendou's gangly, scrawny, freaky-looking ass absolutely flustered and obsessed with a man who may as well be the Terminator is such a rich combination of both tragedy and comedy.
Like yeah on one hand the angst of Tendou feeling inadequate and undeserving of a partner most would describe as perfect is sad BUT right on the other side of the same door, Ushijima is NEVER safe from being genuinely bitten at any time. Tendou's gonna get his ass with a haunted ass nursery rhyme song at 3am followed by a good chomp.
Like how many ships have that much range??? Iconic.
