Lingqi - Heaven's Soaring Wings
Name: Lv Lingqi
Age: 19
Birthday: December 13
Gender: Female
Hair Color: Silver/Grey
Eye Color: Light amber
Height: 5'7"
Family: Lv Bu (father), Lv Mao (uncle), Liang Cuifen (aunt), Lv Na (younger female cousin), Lv Yun (younger male cousin)
Personality:
Lingqi possesses a straightforward, often serious, and somewhat temperamental and impulsive personality, one which she has inherited from her father’s more brash behaviour. She does not possess the patience of a sage and if taunted long enough, she is prone to impulsive actions which often fills her with regret in hindsight.
Lingqi is known to be loyal to whom she serves while at the same time knows when doing what is right is different from following orders. Despite her loyalty, she likes to see that things go her way especially on the battlefield, a trait which others deem as naive.
Contrary to her strong-willed personality, the Lv heiress has a fear of being abandoned or left behind by people she holds dear like her friends and family. As a result of this, she tends to become quite protective of people she is fond of. Despite being known for her fierce demeanor in battle, Lingqi’s expression softens when she is around people she is comfortable with.
Lingqi can get flustered easily (depending on what was said). She is mostly affected by compliments about her appearance.
Verses
Post-Xiapi:
After the battle of Xiapi and the execution of her father, Lingqi was forced to live with the remnants of Lv Bu’s forces for quite some time. Most of the remnants then scattered, some lived off as thieves, bandits, outlaws, and some just gave up their military life and fled to the west (which would then be the territory of Shu Han). Lingqi did not want to live a life of an outlaw, thinking that they would just be pillaging for what they need for survival.
She came to live in the home of the family of her uncle, Lv Mao, who was a petty officer in Lv Bu’s forces and now gave up his military life. Having pity on her, Lv Mao took Lingqi in. At first, his wife, Liang Cuifen, was against taking Lingqi into their home. Cuifen thought that Lingqi would bring trouble to them and their children since she (Lingqi) was Lv Bu’s child and was a crucial officer in the warrior’s ranks. After much persuasion, Cuifen was convinced to let Lingqi stay.
As time passed by, Lingqi grew accustomed to the family and treated their children as siblings. It was as if her life was turning to the better side of things after the pain she went through without her father.
Bleach:
Race: Soul
Affiliation: Gotei 13 | Lv Family | 9th division (7th Seat)
History: Lingqi is a strong-willed individual hailing from the noble clan of Lv. Her father, Lv Bu, served as the 8th seat of the 11th Division until his disappearance alongside a number of Shinigami from the 9th Division a century prior to the battle in Fake Karakura Town.
Prior to Lv Bu’s death, Lingqi was known to be rebellious and free-spirited for a noble’s standard, often using her family’s private Senkaimon to travel to the Living World, much to the dismay of her clan’s more reserved members. She looked up to her father for she saw him as someone who did not bend to the wills and standards that were expected of nobles, instead opting for a more individualistic way of life.
Just a few months before Lingqi’s graduation from Shin'ō Academy, Lv Bu vanished, making him one of the victims of the string of soul disappearances that haunted Soul Society. Devastation ripped across the Lv clan, and Lingqi was wrought with grief and loneliness upon receiving the news just a short time before her graduation. Lingqi initially desired to join the 11th Division to hone her combat skills and follow in the footsteps of her father. However, her family opted for her to be assigned to the 9th Division instead, insisting that the 11th Division was much too rowdy for a noblewoman like her to be in. Lingqi begrudgingly resigned herself to her assignment. She struggled to come to terms with her family’s excuse of taking her desire for combat into consideration by having her to the security division. Abilities:
Swordsmanship: Lingqi is proficient in swordsmanship thanks to the training she had with her father prior to attending the Academy and honing her skills during her studies. She favors a one-handed style of sword usage.
Kidō: Lingqi is not as adept at Kidō as she is in engaging in melee combat. She is able to summon low to mid-level spells by using complete incantations.
Zanpakutō: Ten no Tsubasa 天の翼 (Heaven’s Wings)
In its unreleased state, Ten no Tsubasa resembles a standard Katana with a black sheathe and red cord wrap that wrapped a black hilt. Red feathers adorn the pommel of her sword, hanging off by a small ring that they are attached to.
Shikai: The command for its shikai is “Open the sky (空を広がれ Sora wo hirogare)”. Upon activation, Ten no Tsubasa turns into two pikes with jagged blades at both ends. Golden wisp-like patterns jut out to the centers of the blades from the purple, dragon-shaped bases. These pikes could be attached together to form a shape akin to a cross or spinner.
Shikai Abilities: Ten no Tsubasa is an elemental zanpakutō which is capable of producing cold wind when spun, blowing a strong gust upon the enemy once it is spun against them. Ten no Tsubasa’s attacks are mainly ice-based. Upon offensive contact on an enemy or their weapon, ice gradually grows on the said surface until the opponent or their weapon is frozen in ice.

Hi! My name is K. Sorry if I sound strict, but please, don’t be shy to send me a message if you wanna talk/plot/rp! Sometimes my schedule can be hectic, but I will make sure that I’m active here as much as possible.
God Modding - No godmodding. Godmodding is just bad and if you control my character to do drastic things or over-the-top things without us agreeing over it first then sorry, but I’m gonna have to tell you about it, and worst case scenario, stop writing with you if you persist with such actions. Characterization - I have my personal headcanons for Lingqi. If you don’t like them and you’d like me to change/improve them then send me a message with your suggestions and constructive criticism and I will think about it. Mun =/= Muse. I am not Lingqi so please do not think that I am attacking you personally if Lingqi says something bad or disheartening. Going back to the first point, I am very much open to suggestions regarding the development of my portrayal of Lingqi so if you have any headcanons in mind, do not be shy to send them!
Following - I choose who I will and won’t follow. Usually, I follow most people who follow me, but here are some reasons as to why I may not follow back: *character has no information page *portrayal of the character does not click with me *(for muses outside Warriors) I am willing to roleplay with muses of different fandoms but I am particularly selective with doing so, depending on how familiar I am with that said fandom. I do read on the character page to get a gist which is why I’m gonna go back to the first point where I most likely won’t follow back if the character has no information
Just to give an idea, I also participate in the Bleach fandom so Bleach crossovers are very much welcomed.
This goes for both canon characters and OCs.
Shipping - This is a multi-shipping blog, but ships require interaction and development. This goes not only for romantic ships, but also for rivals, friends, enemies, etc.
Icons - Icons with HSW were edited by me while the ones with KWI are made by kwarriorsicons. It’s totally alright if you use icons or not so please don’t feel worried about whether to icons or not just because I use them.

Never mind Lingqi’s widened eyes—the body language she was displaying was enough of a clue by itself for Yoruichi as to the other’s overawed response. She found it a sufficiently real and amusing reward for her earlier efforts, and so decided that her acting had been satisfactory as a result.
Rather than immediately carry on, she glanced down and lifted her left hand, poking her pointer finger into the collar of her kosode and shitagi alike. She then pulled down mildly, opening her shihakushō up a degree—not nearly to the extent of say, Rangiku, but enough that she could breathe easier. This particular uniform only sort of properly fit her overall; it was tight at the bust and hips. With that done, she returned her attention to Lingqi, smiling at the continued subtle shock.
“Well, seems like you know who I am,” she supposed, seeing no great need to belabor the reveal or introduce herself. She drew her left hand away from her clavicles and—rather ironically and hypocritically given the dramatic nature of the earlier moment—kind of waved the matter aside like it was no big deal. “I happened to see you while dressed like that and thought I recognized you,” she explained, moving on rather than acknowledging that probably didn’t actually explain much of anything.
Without really skipping a beat, she crossed her arms under her chest and tilted her head to one side, assessing Lingqi somewhat. “Since you were a good sport about lunch—” for a noble, anyway; she’d noticed the woman’s aloofness and distance, but it wasn’t so bad as the outright hostility that many might evince toward those they thought of as commoners, “—the earlier offer still stands, if you’re up for it.”
She had a feeling questions were coming instead of an immediate agreement, but figured she might as well be upfront about their agreement.
The Soul Reaper from the Ninth was still bewildered by Yoruichi’s abrupt revelation that she was still and dumbfounded for much longer than she intended to be. She straightened herself. At first, she wondered how Yoruichi had recognized her after so long, and it was not like they were the closest of friends from back then in the first place. Then again, Lingqi heard this woman was full of surprises in one way or another, and she had witnessed it firsthand before her.
“I’m surprised you would still remember me,” She spoke after an awkward clearing of her throat. “After all you have been through throughout the years, I assume.”
Lingqi rested a hand on her right hip and shifted her weight to her left leg. She frowned as her mber eyes scrutinized the woman skeptically. If rumours held a measure of truth in them then was she safe to assume that she would be bested in many ways by Yoruichi? She would not be surprised if the woman held up to her reputation, but it did not mean she was about to back down from, what her father would proudly deem, a decent challenge-- and yet another contrasting trait of hers from her father was the tendency to actually listen to people before jumping to conclusions and striking recklessly.
“Why me?” The query shot forth. “I reckon you’ve seen more Soul Reapers much more worth your attention. So, why me?”
perfumednightingale:
Her fingers gently caressed Lingqi’s cheeks. “Shorter is better for now. I like the way your hair frames your face when you lean down to kiss me.” She leaned closer to kiss her forehead. “Our bath is done, my lady. Unfortunately, my arms aren’t strong enough to carry you.”
She wrapped a thick towel around her and she did the same for herself. Together, they headed straight to her room. Inside was a large bed, vanity table littered with small pots of makeup, small chests filled with her accessories and a closet for her clothes.
“Here, sit here for a while.“, she motioned her to sit on the bed. “Will you let me dress you up for just one day? I want us to wear matching outfits~.“
Lingqi chuckled and while she shied away behind the curtain of her silver tresses, her eyes never dared to divert its lock on the beauty of her Mistress. Lingqi secured the towel against her form while Yueliang draped her with it.
The bodyguard was no less accustomed to the richness of Yueliang’s room than anyone else if she could take a wise gander. For all her time in serving the dancer, the actual extent of Yueliang’s luxury was not like anything anyone would ever imagine no matter how much the woman’s golden orbs and aura betrayed the existence of such.
For one who had been gone for so long, Lingqi felt like she was stepping into a long sought-after refuge.
With her hands holding the towel’s knot to keep it secured around her body, Lingqi tentatively sat on the bed, feeling its softness and subtle depression against her body. Looking up at Yueliang, Lingqi smiled gently. “As you wish, my lady.” A day of amusing her Mistress’ wishes, how nostalgic it was to feel that way again.
In waves Do I end this all for the world to see? Do I take everybody else down, Everybody else down with me? I know that death approaches fast Whats the purpose if this life wont last? Pulling everyone down with me.
Trivium “In Waves”
nightbeat-cat:
“Ah, there you are!” Yoruichi greeted cheerily, still using her Yōko voice. She entered sight with a happy wave and an interestingly-cut orange jacket draped over the shoulders of her shihakushō. Her eyes were shut as she started to approach, pleasant amusement written on her face as though she were a kitsune, only to abruptly stop outside of conversational distance with a final, audible footfall.
In that moment, her whole affect and attitude seemed to change. It wasn’t just her facial expression, or even her body language, but her whole energy—everything about her presence shifted. Her hands came up to precisely and efficiently undo the ties at the end of her braids with no effort, before her fingers elegantly slid up into her hair. She ran them through her mane, breaking up those braids and buns and snatching the little caps and ribbons for the later between them. “Unfortunately…” she began.
With a shake of her head like a model, her stubborn locks fell into proper form in a splash, the sides returning right back to their usual curls as though in earnest rebellion. Her hands slipped into the jacket and the accessories disappeared from them to be replaced by a different set altogether, which she smoothly fastened to create a ponytail.
Her voice was notably different when she continued, deeper and smoldering; not just huskier or smokier, but charged in a commanding and authoritative way. “… Yōko won’t be making it this evening.” With that statement, she finally opened her eyes, revealing that the hazel irises had been replaced by bright, arresting golds. At the same time, the hold she’d been placing on her reiatsu—so very low—fell away partially as she permitted it to radiate at the level of a fukutaichō.
“I didn’t set out to fool you, in particular, but it was an interesting way of seeing how you’d grown up, Lingqi.”
Lingqi’s eyes squinted ever so slightly once Yōko made her presence known. Feet shifted to move, eager to close the distance between her and the other woman , but just a few steps in and Lingqi felt that something had gone amiss. Her eyes widened and pupils dilated while her heart seemed to skip a bit. She was tense in her stature at the sudden and unsettling shift in atmosphere.
What is this?
The thought ran in Lingqi’s mind as Yōko continued her transformation and though it was not one too drastic, it was as if she was becoming an entirely different person. She was awfully familiar, like a figure from Lingqi’s distant past which the heiress had yet to put a finger on.
Once the curtains have parted to reveal the identity of this dramatis personae, the silver-haired girl gasped sharply, her body jerked back slightly at the sight of the person before her.
Of course... Who else could it be?
Yet Lingqi was astounded nevertheless, frozen in her disbelief. “Shihōin...” She uttered the name under her breath with unexpected reverence with her widened amber eyes the only clear sign of her bewilderment.
She possessed vague memories of this particular woman, and while tales and motley rumours supplemented the missing pieces of the puzzles she needed to piece as a child, reason dictated throughout her growth that she sway from the obviously apprehensive nature of the lot of the ideas that were taught to her by her more conservative relatives-- slanderous telltales included.

Yoruichi’s only reply to the confirmation of the time when Lingqi would be getting off of her shift was a big, somewhat goofy smile. She could entertain herself until then, surely. She internally finalized her plans regarding how to reveal that this was a disguise. While it’d be most dramatic to slide the contacts out right in front of Lingqi, unless she intended to throw them away, there’d be an awkward pause caused by putting them into their case.
No, probably best to just remove them and the makeup beforehand, but leave her hair as it was. The lack of the freckles wouldn’t be notable while closing from a distance, and she could just close her eyes and seem to idle. Then all she’d have to do would be pitch her voice back down to its usual timbre, open her eyes, and reach up to undo the ties and covers. Should she wear her jacket, or would that be too much of a tell right off the bat?…
Maybe go have coffee with Shinji and bother some other people while in disguise the meantime? Could keep Shigeru from getting suspicious… She set all that aside as Lingqi answered her questions, and laughed playfully at the remarks regarding the urchin. She clicked the tips of her chopsticks together and then expertly reached in to snatch up a bite of the tuna, rice, and veggies, popping it into her mouth.
“Subarashii,” she judged with a smile, “Give her my thanks!” With that said, she focused on her food more properly, diligently and efficiently making her way through the gyoza and soba (and three more bites of the offered chirashi), only pausing to drink tea or water and to move the bowl or plate closer if and when Lingqi decided to sample her own dishes.
Lingqi spent most of her remaining time eating in silence with only a firm hum to acknowledge whenever the other woman spoke. She still had work to get back to and so she opted that once she they had finalized their proposition, she would not spend too long idling with the Shinigami. If Lingqi ever desired so, which she did not close her mind completely from, she could make up for the lost time in the meeting they would have after her day’s work.
The young heiress was thankful that the latter parts of her shift did not demand too much exertion. It was the usual guard and patrol duty, tending more towards securing the information department while the stationary Shinigami were preparing to depart. Lingqi and her other fellow guards were often the last to leave, save for their Captain who usually left much later.
Once Lingqi completed her final tasks for the day, she promptly made her way back to the canteen. She walked with brisk steps, her excitement for the exercise showing not only in the strides she made but also in the way her eyes sparkled and her lips curved, and though they were slight, anyone who was familiar with her would have noticed a huge difference.
Upon arriving, she found the area nearly empty save for a bunch of scattered Shinigami who were perhaps having a late afternoon meal. Amber orbs eagerly scanned about, she felt an uncanny energy close by, but did not yet find the person she was looking for.
“Where is she?” Lingqi mumbled as eyes caught the glimpse of the clock hanging above wall on the far end of the establishment. Five-ten, not too bad considering the distance between the Ninth’s barracks and the cafeteria.
perfumednightingale:
“That’s a good question.” She gave a few firm strokes before pulling back. ”I’ve been keeping this desire to keep your hair as long as mine. I know that it’s going to be a hindrance to your job so this is the first time that I spoke about it.“
Yueliang stood beside her, reaching out to touch the tips of Lingqi’s short hair. “Perhaps once I go in retirement from performing, we can both grow our hair together. What do you think? Being with me until my hair turns grey too? I’m sure that it won’t be as beautiful as yours.”
Lingqi’s eyes gazed up to Yueliang, as ethereal as ever like a celestial being looking down to touch a mere mortal such as her. The warrior’s fingers found themselves to hold her mistress’ digits as they caressed the ends of her silver locks.
“Yours will be beautiful in their own right, my lady.” She reassured softly, kissing the other’s hand and smiling slightly. “I assume, then, that you want me to keep it short for now?”
nightbeat-cat:
Having by this point fairly conclusively discerned that Lingqi’s focus wasn’t very intently upon her—and was now in particular quite averted as she focused on her own food—Yoruichi allowed herself to break character for a split second with a smirk. Oh, is that so? Such confidence.
Just as quick as it’d appeared, however, it was gone, replaced by Yokō’s bubbly optimism again. “Here sounds good then! There a particular time you get off shift?” She prepped her chopsticks in record time as she spoke and snatched up one of the gyoza with them, dunking it in the provided sauce and starting to happily munch on it.
The table manners she displayed were rather more refined than the ones she usually evinced—she had learned etiquette back in the day, she just didn’t much care for it—but perhaps still a bit sloppy by the standards of nobles as part of the act. She’d finished chewing a bite of her soba when she then gestured at Lingqi’s bentō box with the chopsticks before pointing at her own plate and bowl. “Wanna trade any? These are pretty good, but I’m happy to share! And you never did answer if you’d made that yourself!”
Lingqi silently looked back on her schedule and respond after a second of recalling. “I will look forward to seeing you,” She clarified. “My shift ends earlier than usual today-- Five in the afternoon if no sudden changes are made.” And she doubted that anything like that would happen anyway, her confidence in the matter did not sway.
The silver-haired Shinigami sipped her tea before taking in another mouthful of her food. If Lingqi’s relatives were to compare whose manners were much more proper between her and the Shinigami across her, they would have had a hard time making up their minds, but she reckoned they would still pick their heiress over the other. Lingqi herself could not care less though, it was not like Yokō was making a mess of her space anyway, and why bother policing? It was not like Yokō was a noble like herself-- not that Lingqi knew that much about the other woman to begin with anyway, but she was always quick to draw her assumptions.
Amber eyes locked on to the noodles and dumplings that her fellow Shinigami offered then went down to her own food. It would not hurt to share a few pieces of her chirashi. “Get what you want, just don’t touch the urchin. Those are mine.” She assented before cautioning in hindsight, almost sounding like a child hoarding a toy when she claimed the viand for herself. “ I did not make these, one of my maids did. This is what she’s the best at.”
nightbeat-cat:
With Lingqi’s acceptance of the proposal, Yoruichi adopted a very pleased smile and reclined back in her chair once again, picking up her Oolong tea and sipping at it with evident satisfaction.
The question which followed made her stop and blink, however.“Ara..? I told you when I introduced myself: 7th Division!” she chimed, before giving another mild but energetic laugh.“How embarrassing, to be forgotten halfway through a conversation,” she observed—but her own tone was if anything playful and amused, as though she only found it funny.
She didn’t seem to ruminate on it for long and pivoted, soon regarding Lingqi directly again. “Where’d be a good place to meet up? Around your division’s headquarters?” she asked, batting her eyelashes once in a way that looked young and innocent. “Or the barracks, or back around here? I don’t have any great preference!”
Just then her attention diverted to one side from the other woman as she spotted the server once again returning with her food, a beaming and hungry smile taking hold of her mouth as she watched him coming closer.
Lingqi frowned while her countenance flushed red. Sheepishly, she turned her gaze away, overcome by embarrassment. She was much too disinterested prior to their change in topic that it seemed to fly over her head. She was thankful to whatever forces guided her that she remembered the girl’s name correctly. Heavens forbid that she mortify herself even more.
Lingqi rubbed her chin between her thumb and index and hummed thoughtfully. Her own Division’s headquarters were a considerable distance from the cafeteria, and more than the barracks. Her hand settled on her lap as did her deliberation once she had her answer. “Back here would be fine, let’s meet halfway.”
Just as Yokō’s attention shifted to the server, Lingqi shot a quickl glance at the approaching man and the food he carried. As he settled the bowl of noodles and plate of hot dumplings before the excited Shinigami, Lingqi picked her chopsticks back up and continued her meal. “Better eat well,” She advised casually. “You’ll need it for later.”
nightbeat-cat:
“Oh, that sounds nice! I don’t remember much—” because her past didn’t exist, “—and I mostly just punch things,” Yoruichi said with a disarmingly girlish giggle. At the same time, she lifted her right hand, showing off how lithe it and her fingers were, before curling it into a fist. What had seemed to be a rather delicate appendage suddenly took on an air of menace as all of her knuckles cracked simultaneously from the compression. The juxtaposition was odd.
But just like that, she released it again, making a rapid shooing motion with the once more open hand. “I still haven’t even figured out my shikai and my Fukutaichō is always on my case about it,” she said, sounding more tired and resigned about it than self-pitying. But all the same she perked up a bit, setting her cup down and putting up both fists before her like a boxer, puffing herself up some. “But I never ran into a problem I couldn’t sort out, hehe!”
She then blinked quite dramatically, refocusing on Lingqi. “Ah, of course! You’re a prestigious warrior! I was thinking earlier when you gave your surname: I once heard about your dad when I was at the Academy. Mmm, mhm! Something about a battle he was in where he showed everyone he was a real badass! Ah, pardon my language, but it was really cool! So maybe this really is my good fortune! Maybe I could learn some of his Zanjutsu from you, Lingqi-sama, in exchange for me giving some pointers on fisticuffs!?”
She clapped her hands together twice excitedly. “What do you say? It’d sure make you even stronger in tight spaces! Isn’t that a fair deal? Maybe we could start after you get off shift?”
Lingqi's eyebrows raised slightly while she bore witness to Yokō’s small and unsolicited display of her fist. As if gauging the power through that sight alone, Lingqi bobbed her head sagely. She was curious though on how experienced the other woman was in handling her zanpakutō, Lingqi assumed she was a new recruit. That may explain why she was never seen before.
Eyelids narrowed over amber hues as Lingqi mulled the proposition over in her thoughts, but her stern gaze softened considerably once praise was given to her late father. She felt proud that her father’s legacy was not forgotten even by a seemingly novice Shinigami, but at the same time, her melancholy stirred anew. An opportunity to train with someone who was actually eager for it? Her craving for a decent challenge was often met with scorn and teasing that she should have joined the Eleventh Division instead if she was always looking for a fight. Such remarks were met with spite on her part, had her clan not meddled with her assignment, she would have easily fit in with the brawlers of the Eleventh.
“Very well. I look forward to it, Yokō.” Lingqi did not give it more than a few seconds’ thought when she assented with a firm nod. Luckily for her, today’s shift was not too demanding, routine patrol and guard duty within the barracks. She would have more than enough strength for anything outside of her work.
“What Division are you in?” She asked, she felt odd that all the questions were directed by the dark-haired woman; it dawned to her just how little she apparently gained from the conversation compared to the other Shinigami.
nightbeat-cat:
Yoruichi reclined back in her chair, getting her arms behind her head to cushion it and kicking one leg over the other, adopting a very insouciant and lackadaisical pose, although she didn’t deign to put her feet or legs upon the table—that would probably be a step too far. “Ah, sō desu ka,” she affirmed respectfully, her sight fixating on some point above.
“So, you must do a lot of patrols around the Seireitei and such besides just training, huh?” she mused aloud. She sat upright again suddenly, as though abruptly startled or recalling something, and partially leaned over the table. “Hey, did you guys ever take to patrolling the tunnels after the Ryoka Invasion?” she inquired, her voice hushed and very serious, as though it were an immediate and urgently pressing concern.
Before she could press the point, the server was back with their tea and her change. She thanked the man and hurriedly pocketed the change before setting about pouring for them both with surprising precision and deftness. With a cup of Oolong in hand, she reclined in her chair again, that prior outburst seemingly forgotten.
“What’s your specialty? I’m not so hot at Zanjutsu; like Hakuda plenty though!” she asked and said, before taking a sip.
In contrast to the other woman’s laid back posture, Lingqi kept back straight as she ate, humming disinterestedly every so often after most of Yokō’s queries while she chewed on soft, salmon meat and rice.
She swallowed her food and looked back once again to the woman across her, this time fully diverting her attention from her food when Yokō spoke of the Ryoka. She rested her chopsticks on the borders of her box and crossed her arms, discreetly leaning closer to the edge of the table as if to whisper to the other Shinigami. Just when she was about to speak, the server came to hand their tea. Lingqi sighed and leaned back on the rest of her chair.
“We do what we must.” Lingqi’s response was straightforward, she had no intention of completely divulging her Division’s objectives nor was she in any position to do so anyway, much less to a newcomer such as Yokō.
A small, upward curve of the silver-haired Shinigami’s lips broke her often serious demeanor when they landed on the topic of combat. Now that was a good turn of conversation, she thought to herself.
“Zanjutsu.” She started confidently, her enthusiasm visibly growing with her tone of voice. She took a gentle sip of her warm Oolong tea before she inched body from the backrest of her chair. “I started young when my father would help me train before and after I formally enrolled at the Academy.”

That momentary hesitation when it came to the matter of alcohol during the day made the corners of Yoruichi’s mouth tick slightly upward. How interesting. It seemed that perhaps Lingqi wasn’t quite so duty-bound as she might appear. She adjusted her own short internal assessment to ‘proud but adventurous’.
“A very responsible decision!” she declared. Did Yokō mean abstaining or the tea? Who could say? Not bothering to explain, she rummaged around in the hakama of her shihakushō without any apparent sense of impropriety or shame, and withdrew a stack of kan, deciding to pay upfront. She seemed to hesitate as though trying to do the math, only to declare, “I have no idea as to the prices, so I’ll trust in you!” and hand the stack of coins to the server. It should be about right, anyway—the Seireitei hardly experienced monetary inflation.
Appearing to dismiss the matter with a winsome smile, she solidly returned her attention to her… Host? Guest? Who was in charge or leading here? Ah, but that was the delight of ‘being Yokō’, wasn’t it? Yoruichi inwardly laughed, but pressed on.
“You’re with the 9th Division? What’s that like? Do you work on the Seireitei Communication?” she inquired breathlessly, before adding, “Do you make your own lunches? That one looks pretty.”
Lingqi hummed and nodded indifferently as her eyes shifted back down to her unfinished meal. While the Yokō was busy fumbling for her funds, the silver-haired Shinigami got her chopsticks and continued her meal, hoping all the while that no more disturbances would occur, but with the impression Yokō left, it felt like such a wish would be fleeting and unattainable.
The server promptly accepted the coins, he thanked the dark-haired lady before scurrying off to tend to the orders.
The cafeteria was filled with voices, but on the table which Lingqi and Yokō occupied, silence appeared to prevail.
