I'm in tune And I'm gonna tune.. Right in on you..
you're the bear btw
Anyone else feel an interesting vibe in this scene? with Carmy and Sydney getting down and dirty in the prawns.
Why is the speed bothering you so much Syd? And Mr. Speedy Berzatto over here just had to reach over to demonstrate his technique on Sydney’s prawn.
Even funnier that Fak describes this dish later as “Fuck Town 3000”
Hm. So The Bear IS a p*orno.
Last time we saw prawns - the episode children while Marcus sits in the office looking through carmys drawings with suggestive food like eggplants and a bound chicken, and Sydney telling Carmy the taste of the sauce is meh.
SYD AND carmy flirt through competition and Sydney was impressed by Carmy's finesse and what his hands can do that she didnt mind when he entered her space. She was turned on by how focused he was in that moment. Also something about her pointing out it wasn't a race and he replying instantly with totally. Tension!
So much tension that in the episode later she DOES mind when he's in her space with the twine and tape. Why was she so aware of it then while he'smoving his hands and tying things up?
And it's even hotter that it's second nature for Carmy to be so in her space that it's inevitable that sydney is going to full of 'banana fucking town' she can try to stay focused and on top of work. But she is not.
Season 5 syd : Tells us she is allergic to apples.
Season 4 carm: why would we have apples? We don’t use apples?
WE ARE ALWAYS ONE STEP BEHIND THEM UGH. I hate that i feel like I’m checking into their story instead of following it all the time.
From the first meeting when he asks her what’s up as he is reading all the questions in her brain!??
These annoying lovers
The way i have actually completely turned around on the sydcarmy hamachi reveal - her saying she went to empire and mentioning grapefruit scallop?? Like how the hamachi inspired the Michelin dish that won them the stars. He knows that’s just not true , he knows there wasn’t a grapefruit scallop dish he knows what went beyond the pass - it seems they both know what happened right there and it’s too precarious to bring up . Too precious to talk about in front of everyone. THEY FINALLY SEE THROUGH THE INVISIBLE STRING BRINGING THEM TOGETHER -TETHERING THEM FOR LIFE and they win because syd creates a dish inspired by that hamachi.
This is not a continuity error it’s a deliberate choice to keep the moment between them. just them.
It’s the parallels for me - syd lying to him on the first day about why she wants to work there him clocking it . In THE REVEAL also He sees through her lie and she knows he will.
THE REVEAL IS ALSO INVISIBLE, UNSAID, but So layered - A SHARED invisible MOMENT AMONGST THE CHAOS.
I JUST READ THAT JEREMY INTERVIEW WHERE HE CALLS IT THE SCALLOP HE SERVED HER IN SEASON 3 - WE KNOW IT WAS THE HAMACHI THEY KNOW IT WAS THE HAMACHI WHY DOES JEREMY IN THE INTERVIEW AND SYD IN THE SHOW KEEP CALLING IT THE SCALLOP BECAUSE THE SCALLOP THAT WON THE STAR IS INSPIRED BY THE HAMACHI. THE HAMACHI REVEAL WAS INFRONT OF US ALL ALONG. THEY ARE LYING TO US SO BAD.
That’s SYDCARMY’s moment . Jeremy knows his lines this is just dumb meta stuff that they do.
The Bear - in its entirety - should be required viewing for white folks.
White folks who drag seasons 3-4 continue to shock me with their inability to see how their own (often times, unconscious) racism is being reflected back at them via Carmy, Richie, Mikey, Natalie, Donna, Cicero, Claire, the Faks, Stevie, Michelle and Tiff (+ the fine dining industry).
This show is literally out here giving white folks a demonstration of how to stop, reflect, fuck up and fail but get back up and do better in your relationships with BIPOC communities. Take notes!
The embrace and whatever happens after leads Carmy into his interview with heavy thoughts and with a long monolgue where he absolutely loves food for the color and how vibrant it is how the days aren't so bad with his family..and even admits that at work he used people as instruments but now he's starting to care for others..or someone.
You can't tell me he wanted to leave after whatever they did when he can experience that everyday.
The moment before the hug, as he waits for her to share this moment with him. Right now, the rest of their family can wait til after service, but he wants to take it in, maybe because he knows what it's like to walk that journey, and he doesn't want Sydney to do it alone.
I'm going to miss Carmy's longing stares. I'm glad we got one more moment, and this time he got what he wanted since he first laid eyes on Sydney.
Idk how to feel about Cicero and Donna being together tbh. It kinda feels like the ending of the show encapsulated all these fantasies that could be brought to life for the happiness of a child who grew up in a traumatic home. The addict parent got sober and wants to learn how to parent. And now Cicero, who was the closest thing they had to a father, wants to make it official by being with Donna. At the same time, I'm sorry. Donna and Jim never gave me that vibe; his flirting with her had a connotation, like it was a routine that wasn't supposed to imply anything for them, and they knew it. Felt like he flirted with her to make her less upset while she was having a crisis, Richie did that too, I thought it was more about Donna wanting male validation. Thought I always imagined Jim and Donna had a thing in the past. Now, since this was brought up when Carmy was talking about Syd… Is Cicero to Donna what Syd is to Carm? The stable analytical person marrying the chaotic one? Is definitely the best thing that could happen to Donna, is just feels a little forced.
A part of me wonders based on the dialogue before hand, if Jimmy was pulling Carmy's leg a bit given that Carmy was talking about "she" . He tells Carmy I'm just trying to do the "right" thing here as if Carmy skipped a step before feeling this way about sydney being the real deal.
But also seeing the fishes episode again seems like they had a bit of a thing.
5x08 birthday party blocking, again
Expanding on this post I made about the blocking of the final birthday party scene in The Original Beef of Chicagoland, another very interesting thing was brought to my attention.
As I noted, Carmy is facing away from the camera and towards Claire during this scene:
Facing backwards, facing his past.
However, @beuck_ on twitter pointed out (to @ambeauty who passed it along to me...thank you again!) that at the very end of this shot, you can actually see someone standing at Carmy's right side, with braids and the same gold earring Syd is wearing in other shots. So Carmy isn't talking to Claire by himself, he's talking to Claire with Syd at his side.
And then, of course, the rest of the scene follows and we see Carmy, facing forward making extreme anime heart eyes at Syd as she cuts the cake, in his last shot of the show:
Facing forwards, facing his future (Syd).
Also highly recommend watching this, which is the same scene scrubbed of music so you can hear the dialogue, almost entirely between Syd and Carmy, much more easily.
To me, this is incredibly conclusive, in the way that the show shows very intentionally and layers in meaning and subtext and symbol and everything else. Claire is the past; Sydney is Carmy's present and his future. It's all here. And I just love that so much.
Call me crazy bananas but the light LITERALLY shines on them when he thinks of kissing her (cups her face and all)
And it's blocked once more when he gives up on the idea.
They're acknowleding it was an embrace not just hug.
Embracing as in holding onto each other. Embrace is intimate and a Connection.
I cut the music track from snippets of the party and the very end of the episode, added volume, and did my best to add some subtitles where I felt they were relevant to Sydcarmy.
I honestly love this. Sydney asking Carmy to help plate the cake, them plating, then I guess Carmy left, because he had to do something with the presents? Then Sydney is complaining about doing this by herself lmao. Also that "I can do real big" and those finger licking noises 👀
If anyone heard something differently or wants to add, please comment/reblog!
Glad I can hear it better
Wasn't there a post that pointed out Carmy looking at Sydney's scrunchie on Bolognese episode and suddenly that scrunchie disappeared from her wrist?
The broader culture doesn’t deserve them anyway
Interesting that it was Donna who bought the cake and decoration but it's sydney who cuts the cake for the family?
Carmy helps Sydney cut the cake like he helped hom during family events...cmon give us a movie or special episode where Sydney and Carmy host Christmas Dinner.
You're not alone, Syd.
Between these two scenes, where Carmy clearly wants to say more and the humorous scene with Carmy moving only 2 inches from Sydney, it's his longing to be there with her that is a joy to see. Seeing how tightly he holds her, with eyes closed and in the moment where he's relieved that they're still close. Jimmy gave Carmy the perfect advice: Do not quit the people around him, and it seems like he's not letting Sydney go.
