Light, fracturing through stagnant space and time.
Sound, ringing skulls like the war drums of a Sioux fire dance.
We created deceit, and now we rely on it.
The alarms we set to bring us back from the darkness, strand us in it.
We swing legs away from rest over the threshold of manufactured purpose.
What if we used them to run, stripped of duty and regret, straight to mountaintops and oceans' mists upon our brows?
What if we set sail to unknown shores and glided through ravines on laughter's silvered wings?
Redefined our purpose through songs of hulls creaking and new shores on horizons.
What if we smiled?
Aged ourselves innocently, through permanent lines on faces.
Memories released in the echoes of our cachinnations and juvenile inquiries call us back to sanity.
Through a Glass Darkly / Såsom i en spegel (1961), dir. Ingmar Bergman
And I was varied. Probably to my own detriment I was varied, certainly to my own torture. There were never shared experiences among my present and bygone selves; each version was novel in its own way. Really, it wasn't a terrible way to exist.
