the guy’s just waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs with a shiny badge already conveniently exposed and a face that valentine can’t help but think would look very good somewhere beneath him. 

he displays his hands in a gesture of surrendering, but coyness teases the corners of his lips as he completes his descent.

          There was no playfulness about Brian’s demeanor,           perhaps for once. He was as serious as he could be,           as any less-than-good junior officer could be. He            noted at the guy he (assumed) he was supposed to           be questioning seemed to not have any idea he could           possibly be involved in anything.

          This might be harder than what he signed up for.

          “I’m not trying to scare you into anything, sir. I’m Officer             O’Conner---- are you Gregory Valentine?”
