Bridges -Broods
A sibling duet based out of Auckland, New Zealand, Broods have a fresh, sultry synth-pop sound. A mix between Purity Ring and Lorde, this Kiwi duet is gaining popularity worldwide. Their single, 'Mother & Father,' from their new Album Evergreen, is creeping up American charts, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see it reach the top as they tour the US this fall.
Southern Sun, Boy & Bear. Out of Australia, this 5-some has a strong, unique sound. I saw them at Splendour in the Grass music festival and they blew the crowd away.
See them tomorrow night at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Inner Oceans before the Film on the Rocks showing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The show starts at 7pm.
Restaurants:
Aqua Al Due (via Giraldi)
Asagio del paste, insalata e dolci: the chef chooses 5 pastas for you to try, 3 salads and an assortments of dessert. Mmm.
Fileto Milleto: Blueberry steak= a must try
La Giostra (Borgo Pinti)
The atmosphere is great and they welcome you with gifts of prosecco and an appetizer plate
Ravioli con pera e pecorino (sheep cheese): so yummy
Bronzino sea bass is also great!
Il Gatto e La Volpa (via Giraldi…right across from Aqua)
The small restaurant serves dishes family style for big groups
Start with bufola mozzarella e pomodori (tomatoes)
Spaghetti al arrabiata (angry pasta sauce)…spicy and delish
I’ve heard the gnocchi con quattro formaggi (4 cheeses) is great too

The Oil Shoppe (via S. Egidio)
Get a huge Sammie (easy to split), fries and a drink for 5 euro
Antica Noe (via Palmieri under the bridge)
Always smiling, they whip up some great sandwiches on baguettes
O’Vesuvio (via dei Cimatori)
All the way from Naples, these brothers brought stones from Mt. Vesuvius to build their pizza oven…making the best pizzas in town!
Stores:
Brandy & Melville (via Cavour)
Subdued (around the corner at viale Giacomo Matteotti or via Pepi)
Playground (viale Don Minzone)
Gelato:
Perque No? (via dei Tavolini)
La Carraria (corner of Carraria bridge)
Gelateria Neri (via de Neri)
Places:
Hike to Fiesole (Start on via della Piazzola or Forbici, or Faentini-longer route…my favorite)
Stop by the beautiful universities on the way
Piazzale Michelangelo (Altrarno)
Visit the church of San Miniato al Monte and then enjoy some wine on the steps and watch the sunset over the city
Universita del Arte/ park (Near the stadium)
Great place to paint/relax/people watch on a Sunday

Visit the Palentine Gallery, Medici appts filled with their collections of beautiful art then get lost in the gardens with a good book

Very beautiful and interesting church and in the piazza outside, there are often fairs and young people hanging out

Sunshine Visa in Australia
A lot of people have been asking me about how to go about getting the Sunshine (or Work and Holiday) Visa, so I figured I would write about it here.
With the 462 visa, you can:
stay in Australia for up to 12 months
work in Australia for up to six months with each employer
study for up to four months
leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while the visa is valid.
It's super easy to apply, and for me, it only took a couple days until I got an e-mail that I could move to Australia any time within the year. The cost is around $420 to apply for the visa, and other than your airfare, you wont have to pay for anything else.
I would recommend getting to Australia around November, when summer is starting and there are a lot of open positions available in the hospitality industry.
Places I lived and saw and would recommend visiting while you're in Australia:
Sydney
Melbourne
Byron Bay
Hunter Valley Wine Country
Cairns
Austinmere
Kiama
