Shani - the planet Saturn (via Exotic India)
Shani (Sanskrit: शनि, Śani) is one of the Navagraha, the nine primary celestial beings in Hindu astrology. Shani is embodied in the planet Saturn and is the Lord of Saturday. The word shani also denotes the seventh day or Saturday in most Indian languages. The word shani (शनि) comes from Śanayē Kramati Saḥ (शनये क्रमति सः), “the one who moves slowly”, because Saturn takes about 30 years to revolve around the Sun.
Shani is represented as having a dark complexion and is said to be the son of Surya, the sun god, and Chaya, the servant whom his wife Swarna surrogated. He is the brother of Yama, the god of death and is believed by many to be an avatar of Shiva.
Hindus are under fear of evil from his planet - Saturn. In Vedic astrology, the planetary position at the time of birth determines the future of a person. So, Hindus accord immense importance to the planets, and Saturn or Shani is one such planet which they fear the most for ill-luck. Anyone born under his influence is believed to be at risk. Even the day named after him, Shanivara or Saturday, is considered inauspicious to begin any new venture.

It may still be a little early to head for the beach, but that won’t prevent us from thinking beachy thoughts.
