Creativity in content

In todays business era a lot of ads and content are the same. It is important to distance yourself from the competition. To distance ones company on social media, creativity and being unique is evertyhing. Below I will outline ways to be unique on various social media platforms.

Instagram: Creating instagram stories to promote events or products is an extremely effective way to gain traction for an upcoming product. One way to do this is to create a poll where potetial customers can express their "hype" for the upcoming project. Another way to effectivly use instagram is through the use of Instagram promotions. Instagram promotions allows for a wide range of potential customers with the ideal demogrpahics to view your ads. It is important to create appealing ads to help gain a following on your profile.

Twitter: To gain traction on twitter an effective method is to utilize reposts. Reposts can help gain potential customers by utizlizing the algorithims to pop up on potential customers feeds. Another important aspect of twitter is tio utilize hashtags and gifs. Hashtags allow you to be found more easily and gifs are a cool feature of twitter you can tie to your ideas.

FaceBook: A really cool aspect of FaceBook is the FaceBook Marketplace. The marketplace can be useful for buisness to show off their products and have a way for customers to make impulsive purchases while scrolling through FaceBoook. Another useful feature is the FaceBook Live feature. It is great for doing Q and A's and showing off future products. This helps gain traction and gets customers excited.

Youtube: Youtube is great for creating ads. Creating ads is very important for buisnesses because thats how their name becomes heard. A useful feature of YouTube is the ad feature in which companies can push their ads out to all of youtube.

In todays competetive bussiness environment creativity and uniqueness is everything. By creating unique social media platforms, more potential costumers are reached. Reach is everything in the marketing game. To create a strong reach, a strong social media campaign must be put into play using unique and creative teqniques to rope in customers. Consistentency is everything in social media so it is important to keep up to date posts and post often. Posting often keeps the idea of the brand fresh in a potiential customers head.

Online community

can Building a bigger online presence is without a doubt is great for any company. There are endless opportunities for businesses to expand and grow their online community. Expanding on all platforms will allow businesses to keep up with the newest trends and styles. Theses social media accounts are an expression of who these businesses are. After reading chapters 4 and 5 I learned that each business should social media based on different factors such as their target audience, business use, business value, and industry. 

In chapter 4 or the Hootsuite Academy I learned a lot of useful information about how to grow an online community. As a business using social media you have to have a goal to reach for using it. If a business is able to use social media effectively it can be an extremely beneficial. One way that a company can grow there page is by asking someone with a bigger following to shout you out on their page so that all of their followers will come check out you account. After all there are many different ways to expand your social media presence and I learned some very good information about how to use social media effectively and efficiently.

Big data

For the most part all businesses in the industry use Big Data. After watching "The Legal Side of Big Data" I was informed about the dangers that Big Dat poses.

There are some positives and some negatives to Big Data. I feel that businesses should be cautious when using big data. Big data many times violates privacy which causes you to be vulnerable on the internet. many times hackers are able to gain access to your information.

On the other hand there are some pros to big data. Big data allows for customers to shop more efficiently and help them find what they're looking for. Big data also encourages more engagement from the customers.

I feel that although big data poses many threats to security there are many ways to combat those threats and allow safe usage of big data.

internet surveillance

When you use the internet data is gathered through many things such as your search history, purchases online, and other activities you participate in on the internet. From this companies are able to gather internet surveillance data to market to the individual consumer. The internet is like the highway it allows for people to communicate without being face to face an connect with anyone from around the world. While the internet has its pros it also has it’s cons. For example, many website collect data sometimes collect your data and you don’t even know. From my personal experience I have had multiple occasions where I look something up on google and as soon as I log in to Instagram I see advertisements for the exact same thing I just searched. This is the negative side of the gathering of data.

Fake news

I have always wondered why the lies and fake news always comes before the truth. Everyone is always jumping tp conclusions and passing on false information.

Algortithms have created a big problem in contributing to fake news. These algorithms allow for users to essentially boxed in on these platforms because if you don't use certain hashtags of follow certain groups of accounts users tend to only see one side of many naratives and this allows for junk news to be spread.

Advertising plays a key role in the spread of fake news. Almost every time I am using the internet or even social media I find links that seem interesting only to find out that the title has absolutely nothing to do with the title of the link to draw me in. Many times these links and ads are only there to simply calculate data to see what users interests are.

Lastly exposure in my opinion plays the biggest role of them all. I feel that exposure also correlates with the algorithms because much of the fake news that comes out gets viewed by a more specific audience. These algorithms are able to produce content tailored to the specific audience in order to keep them engaged and unfortunately this allows for fake news to be spread because many users are only able one side of things.

I feel that we as users should be aware of the many methods of fake news. We also need to watch what we are subjected to by what we like, share, and post on social media. Lastly I think we should always keep an open mind and know that there is always another side of social media that we cannot see.

Social Media Consultant

If you asked me what qualities a social media consultant should have I'd have a few things to say. First off I think a good social media consultant should have a great knowlege of their industry because your customers are going to have plenty of questions and you have to be able to provide quality answers to improve customer service. Secondly, I feel that a good social media consultant should have great communication skills to be able to make sure things run smoothly and keep misunderstandings to a minimum.

If I were a social media consultant I would think of ideas to grow my social media presence. The first this i would advise myself to do is start posting more often weekly so I create more content for my audience. I would also advise myself to go through all of the accounts that I am following and look through them to see that accounts that aren't following me and unfollow those accounts. Lastly I would advise myself to clean up my social media accounts by getting rid of a lot of my outdated posts that arent useful to promoting my social media account.

The Social Dilemma

After watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix I was extremely blown away by how deeply manipulated we are by our technology which led me to worry a bit.

In the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma my eyes were truly opened to how much we are manipulated by these algorithms. Its very creepy to begin to think that there is some algorithm out there constantly evolving to keep your attention for as long as possible. In the documentary people with first hand experience with working with big companies such as facebook explain how they keep you drawn in. Everything we do on social media is being monitored and tailored to us individually so that we spend more time locked into our phone. These algorithms can affect how we feel bye what we see by altering many different things to keep you drawn in and when you begin to see how addicted you are its kind of alarming. 

I feel that this documentary informed me that we have a very big societal issue that is going on that we are completely blind to. As a society we are completely blind to how  much this technology takes out of our lives. The only way possible that I could think of would be to delete many social media apps because  all they do is keep your attention focused on that app. These algorithms have advanced so far that it knows exactly what to produce to keep your attention because this is what makes them the money. I feel that this monster of these algorithms that we have created is a monster that we cannot control any more and this problem will never be solved. I truly believe that we have created a world that is so dependent that we cannot go back.

My full day social media experiment

Earlier in the week I logged my social media usage and to my surprise I was blown by what I learned. My social media log informed me that I was using social media way too much. I learned that I constantly checked my phone for no absolute reason many teams throughout the day. I wanted to figure out a way to limit my usage of social media so I went an entire 24 hours where I used no social media.

My experiment lasted a full day where I didn't login to any social media on my cell phone. These apps included TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram.

I started my experiment in the morning and this was when I first noticed that I was going to struggle with this experiment because every morning I start my day with sending my streaks to get them out of the way and I wasn't able to do that. I kept receiving notifications and I was trying to check on the debate and I wasn't able to do that.

During the day I kept getting notifications from multiple family members and my friends sending me things that I really wanted to open. I noticed that throughout the day I was finding other ways to contact people than social media and I feel that this allowed me to get things accomplished. I was able to watch some film, take some notes, and make phone calls to multiple family members.

Later on in the day after I got done with practice and got home I immediately went upstairs and put my cell phone on my bed and went down and hung out with my roommates. I was able to take a nap for about an hour and got a few assignments done. At night I noticed that it was a lot easier to fall asleep because as soon as I went upstairs I fell asleep.

After this entire experiment I noticed how much my phone just seems to draw me in and how dependent I am on my phone. After a full day I was able to really see how much my phone holds me back from getting things done.

Social media in my life

HSocial media plays such a big role in my life. I spend so much time out of my day constantly checking my phone. Watching Max Strossel's talk caused me to really sit back and actually think about how much I use my phone and how my phone keeps me locked in. From the time I wake up till the time I go to sleep I am on my phone checking social. I feel that sometimes social media can get in the way of things that I am trying to get accomplished because I have such a bad habit of picking up my phone and scrolling to see whats going on. Having the internet access in my pocket at all time has its pros a cons but in my case I have a hard time managing when to put it away.

Some of my best memories come from times when I didn't have access to the internet. Growing my family had horses and occasionaly we would take weekend trips across the midwest to go trail riding and when you are in these big state parks there is no internet somy phone was never really much use to me. Since there was no internet I had no reason to be checking my phone and this allowed me to take in my surroundings and this allowed me to actually appreciate nature.

I would like to like to limit the use of my phone thoughout the day because at times it really distracts me from getting things done. In particular my phone at night causes me to lose a lot of sleep because around this time I am scrolling through social media. I would also like to pick out a part of my freetime to do homework where I dont have access to certain apps so I could have more intentional use of my device.
