To be honest i feel like Sangwoo is just sort of making things up as he goes along. That’s especially evident in chapter 19. We’ve already seen him nearly murder a cop just for being suspicious and then lose his mind when he thought maybe his pet ran away. Now he’s trained a murderer and is clearly confused and seemingly unsure where to go from here. He can hardly even figure out if he wants to stick Bum with a knife or his dick, whether he wants to be his father or his father’s killer, whether he wants to consider himself the victim or the abuser. How he got this far without getting caught i can only guess. (Just kidding it’s because he’s pretty and people are shallow)

On disliking Jieun

Okay so what the fuck I dislike Jieun and was glad to see her go (something I am somewhat guilty about) but I resent that there are some people attributing dislike of Jieun to being solely “about the yaoi shipz”. I dislike Jieun, and it’s not about “the yaoi shipz”.

When Jieun was first introduced I really liked her. I liked her up until the very first panels of chapter 17 when she was… frankly a complete condescending asshole. My dislike grew when she literally told Bum “You have legs don’t you? Walk home by yourself!” (even tho he’s visibly on crutches), and was cemented when Sangwoo observed that she was the sort of person who’s probably had everything because she’s pretty. When he said that, I realized how right that sounded. She seems exactly like the sort of person who’s never been stepped on precisely because she’s so pretty, and that’s turned around and made her consciously unpleasant to others because of a sense of superiority. She’s the East Asian version of Regina George. And I really disliked her for that. 

A part of me was crowing in joy when Bum stabbed her 12 fucking times. I’m not proud of that, but I would like to get it straight that it’s not because of the shipz? People who aren’t neurotypical OR conventionally attractive, like Bum, and like me, have gone through hell in school because of people like Jieun People like Jieun make fun of “that weird depressed (or insert other descriptor of mental illness here) boy/girl who’s always in awful baggy sweaters”. So yes, I disliked Jieun because it hit a little close to home. So yes, seeing the person she dissed snap and kill her was cathartic as fuck. Sue me.

I automatically like any female character that enters a story that’s been male-dominated up till then (again, fucking sue me), so it’s definitely disappointing that she’s the first real female character we’re introduced to and she’s so awful? Up till chapter 17 I was like YAS QUEEN and then she turned out to be a Korean Regina George.

Bum killing Jieun had little to do with Jieun

This whole post is going to be a mess but I have to get this out soon before my thoughts leave me. So I can’t read Korean at all but it’s pretty obvious from the visuals in the story that Bum was projecting the image of the girl from his past onto Jieun. The last few chapters have been so centered around Jieun, Sangwoo, and his diabolical plan that getting this huge dump of Bum’s flashbacks and development was a bit of a surprise. 

My initial reaction to the end of this chapter is that Bum has way more pent up pain and suffering than I initially thought. And that Sangwoo unintentionally just introduced the unhealthiest coping mechanism ever for it. We’ve seen this girl before, too

This was all the way back in chapter 9 when Bum had the life or death card game showdown with the old man. We didn’t know what any of this meant, but once again whatever it was, it really impacted Bum.

There he is stabbing Jieun but what is he visualizing? 

He’s picturing that classmate from his past. Maybe something she said triggered him, but regardless of what it was, he’s taking out his old pain onto her, and I don’t know I guess that’s what makes this chapter so heartbreaking in my opinion. I’m probably stating the obvious but I have to write it down
