The only thing he wants to do -- what he won’t allow himself to do, not just yet -- is sleep. The only thing that sleep offers him is a reminder of his existence. So he sits, as he has done for hours now even though it’s getting late, and sketches endless patterns across a white paper napkin. Oblivious to the world around him, it is only too late that he realizes he is sipping from the wrong mug. He barely keeps the liquid from spewing from his mouth and pulls a face when he finally manages to swallow it.  "What the hell is that?" He demands, turning to face the person next to him.
