While in Pittsburgh for my sister's graduation, I made the necessary visit to Cal's grave: the only standing monument to him. It's incredible to me still that the first man to fly across America is buried somewhere so quiet and humble. Only by walking up close can you see that the plaque has a plane on it; only by reading the inscription do you know why. I was as humbled in this moment as I was on first visit. Sometimes the greatest of beings are as quiet in death as they were in life.
