Why JJ?

Look. I don't think JJ Barea needs to change. I get who he is, and what he brings to a basketball team: Offense, offense, and something called "grit" (scowls and draws fouls). He can score, and find teammates for open looks.

What I don't get is why he is on a Rick Adelman team. He's too small to effectively defend most other guards one-on-one. And though he can super-charge an offense at times, it's the *way* he does so that seems so anti-Adelman. When JJ enters the game, the beautiful fluidity of the starting offense grinds to a halt while everyone watches him dribble drive for 20 seconds, or launch a 3-pointer in semi-transition with 20 seconds still on the shot clock. I think he could be a perfect change-of-pace guy on some teams (like he was for Dallas), but on this Wolves team? He's a bad fit, and I think he's making it difficult for the other bench guys to find their footing this season.

I understand why guys like Derrick Williams and Alexey Shved are reportedly on the block, and I would welcome seeing a solid veteran or two added to the bench. But I also continue to be puzzled why Barea remains an unquestioned fixture of this team. He's a very good basketball player, but I don't think he's very good for the Timberwolves.
