A growing shikigami was a more fitting description for this one. Although, she grows at an even slower rate than say, a human child. But she was picked for a purpose after all. Even though she can’t perform any major duties for now, she’s under the tutelage of her own master, so it was safe to assume that she’s more of an apprentice with a special connection with her own mentor.

“Well, it’s a little tiring I guess. But nothing bad, I swear! It’s just that my master and her master work to maintain the stability of a barrier that protects my homeland right now so as her shikigami I’ll eventually takes those duties myself and it needs a lot of studying and experience. My masters are youkai like me so I won’t be that worried about them being mortal.”

Yokai still age, and die. But their life spans are much longer than the rest. They will still die, death is something no yokai can avoid. He ponders on this for a milisecond, seeing as he didn’t want to insult the other by stating the obvious. 

  “A shikigami taking the duties of another. Is that... even allowed. Than again. I too , could be considered the equivalent...of a shikigami. So me questioning all this... ah.”

A moving table cart brings in a cart load of books. 

 “I hope...you don’t mind. I brought the books here instead...Sorry...for wasting your time. “

“Hey, it won’t be a problem but if you want me out of it then let’s hope it turns out OK.” Still, with curses running loose at any moment, she really felt like addressing the issue herself. Curses aren’t meant to be ignored after all but…

“Well, I’m very fond of black magic so that’s my first option everytime I find magic tomes. I can cast curses, hex targets and invoke spirits. Gotta know all the basics you know. But if I were to pick another school, perhaps hemomancy would be cool to read about. I could help alot of people if I knew how to manipulate blood. Besiiiiides all that, I could go for some onmyoudo texts. I’m actually a shikigami myself so it makes sense to learn about it.”

A shikigami that grows. Or perhaps one that stays young forever. In any case that seems impractical. Why not simply make it a grown version than. Surely the onmyoji could do something as simple as that. Why put it in the shape of the child, the efficiency of it will decrease due to appearance alone. 

 “Hmm....your learning so much... are you sure you won’t be overwhelmed?   ...or rather are you learning so much because of your master. Or because...    your master is mortal?”

“Commands? Are you a familiar then?” Well that would be some neat coincidence. She’s a familiar herself, well, a shikigami to be more precise but she understands having to follow a command or programming. “Well, I’m in no rush on borrowing the books so maybe I could help you locate those spellbooks and probably seize any curses that were casted accidentally? Sounds like an issue to everyone involved.”

Looking at the form and hearing the other’s question, the youngster hummed for a few seconds as she tried to formulate an answer, all while spinning the pen with her left hand.

“My masters aren’t here for now, I would totally ask them for this. But I have no problem on signing this. Sounds silly for me to blame a library because I didn’t know how to handle a spellbook.” She wrote her name in the form and handed it back to the statue-esque librarian. Oddly enough, she merely wrote her first name but at least it was clear that this girl’s name was ‘Chen’.

“So, how about it? You don’t get to leave your post and I get to kill some time before I hit the books again. It’s a win win thing.”

 “I am a individual golem. But my programming only allows me to follow orders. Not disobey them. If my master was awake...he would have allowed such a endeavour... “  A sigh. “But rarely does he talk with lowly golems such as me. He is more concerned with his strongest ones instead.” Eve, if he remembers as such. Not that he could do anything about that point. 

 “It is at a point, the library fault for having a dangerous book out to the public to begin with. “ He points out, the legal terms leaving his lips as he scans the form. Click. Picture taken. 

 “It would be in poor taste ... to have a outsider retrieve the books. Eventually...a scout will retrieve them... but oh...it might be too late.” 

He shakes his head at the thought, sky blue stands of fake hair falling to his face. 

 “If I may ask, what specific kind of magic are you looking for.”

“Umm, I don’t have one. This is my first time here and I wasn’t planning to take a book, I just needed to consult some tomes for homework but I meant to ask about the missing tomes of this one.” The nekomata explained as she handed the book to the tall guy. Naturally, it was a book of blagic and on its spine indicated that it was the third tome of a series. “I can’t find the other ones and some people told me to ask you if you had them somewhere else.”

“I guess it got taken like the rest of the spellbooks, huh? If you’re that worried about those curses, you should go and take them back pronto. But are people really that careless with cursed books? What kind of curses we talking here anyway?”

Being practitioner of black magic herself, she couldn’t help but lend an ear.

 “I would...if I could go. But magic commands are imbedded in me.   I literally cannot exit this library...without being ordered to. My orders    are to simply watch over this great library of the sage Andreas.”

If he could have gone, he would have left already. But commands and especially magic commands were important to the golem like creature whose body was like a David statue. But with more glitter than anything else , really. 

He looks at the book. 

 Scanning...scanning...

 “Minor curses, one that would signify you didn’t return the book in time. But very embarrassing. .. I would honestly want to avoid that. But..they brought it on themselves...”

Scanning...scanning... 

  “Ah, yes. Third row to the left , row 14. Black Magics and such.    Do you happen to have anyone who can vouch for you in regards  ...to using such magic. Unless you sign this...” 

Hesitantly he brings out pen and paper. The paper saying that the library is not responsible for any accidents that occur should you proceed with your path.

Meanwhile the troubled librarian mused his concerns about the return dates of such books, he could see a short girl with feline features staring at him over his desk. She really looked liked your typical 12 year-old but judging from the book she was holding, she wasn’t here to read children’s books.

“Umm, Mister? You OK there? You looking a little pale there.”

Artificial eyes glance at the new arrival. Checking ears and tail. 

Species: Nekomata, possibly sub species or weaker, or in disguise.  Threat level- low/for now. 

 “Its a big problem. Some of our bigger spell books were due yesterday. And I’m afraid the curses will be activated soon. but ... anyways...-

 -Are you here to return, or borrow a book. Can I see your library card.”

 “Mmmm...oh no this is bad...so many over due books already... this is really bad.” For one who had the figure of a adonis, the golem simply didn’t have the guts to defy orders and leave the library to remind people of their own return date for books. Especially magical books. He was a bit worried too since those books had curses on them to prevent over due. “Perhaps I should send a golem...”

Worried as always, he paced near the entrance of the library.
