Evaluation

After the amount of work that I had to put into the last two assignments (Tracking 2 and Advanced Comp), I found this one to be enjoyable and not cause problems for me a lot. I’ve also got the Daughter songs stuck in my head after having to listen to it repeatedly when trying to work in Premiere. Through this assignment, I realised that I’m great with colour correction the most with trying to create a tone for the video (something Geriant acknowledged during the assessment week with the Open Brief) and I will attempt to expand this greatly with the Final Major Project which has recently just started.

Blipvert 5: Tomorrow

Here, I’ve finished the final blip-vert being Tomorrow. Besides the same stuff like the previous blipvert including colour correct and brightness & contrast, fade etc, I have added the tracked scene at the end of the video to fit the lyrics.

I have now finished all five blipverts, all I have left is the evaluation and putting the Tumblr link onto my folder.

Blipvert 5: Tomorrow - Tracking Bones Onto Leaves

This is me tracking the bones that I traced and created in Illustrator onto the leaves in After Effects using the Motion Tracker. Somehow, I didn’t have any issue tracking here than I did in the Tracking assignment. Odd.

Change of bone

I have decided to change the outline of the bones, after rendering and playing back, i could see there was no connection, between the painted bones and the tracked graphics. Lucky i had created them with layers, so all i had to do was to delete the outline layer,  i have also decide to add a animation to them of a fade in. I think it will add to the lyrics of skeletons of trees, showing them forming, like the relationship breakdown.

Blipvert 4: Candles

This is me working on the forth blip-vert, Candles. I did the same thing to it like I did with the previous ones like colour correct, grain etc, but I also included some zooms to the footage and images to make it a bit more interesting as nothing much was happening in this one and it felt a bit static.

Now I only have one blipvert left before completion and this one might take me a bit longer than usual due to tracking in one scene.

Blipvert 3: Touch

Here, I am working on, or rather worked on, Blipvert 3 which is Touch. I have done the same things from the previous blipvert for this one like fades, grain, colour correction and brightness / contrast. Nothing else to say besides that I did this the same like the previous blips. I really like how the map plays through the movement giving it connection.

Blipvert 3: Touch - Path Tooling The Maps

Here, I am placing a path line following the roads on the map. This will make it more than a static image when I opacity it with the branch pushing in the blipvert.

Improving the Logo

Here, I’ve added an improved Daughter logo (without the fill in the D and R and added the album name) to the blipvert and it looks better than before. Hell, it looks like an album cover from this screenshot alone.

Creating The Daughter Logo and Inserting It Into My Blipvert

This is me creating my Daughter logo through Illustrator (which I also used for my Made in Cardiff Logo from last year) and inserting it into my blip-vert in Premiere. I have also adjusted the height and brightness / contrast to make it stand out against the backdrop. I will insert this logo into the other four blip-verts and adjust them to fit the scene.

Blipvert 2: Youth

Here, I’m working on the second blipvert, Youth. Like the first one, I added a fade to make it flow into the next scene, especially since there are only two scenes for this blipvert. I even adjusted the colour, brightness and contrast to match the mood of the video. I even added a vignette by masking an eclipse to give it that old feel.

Blip-vert 1: Winter Frost Border

Here, I tried to put on a frost border to the blipvert to see how it will look like. From what I saw, it doesn’t look that great and it made the blip-vert hard to see so I decided to not include it in the final video.

Blipvert 1 - Winter

This is me creating the first blipvert, Winter, in Premiere. I have adjusted each footage and image to the music so that it syncs with the lyrics and I’ve also added fades so that it will flow into the next scene well, especially with the final four images of a melted heart reforming into a frozen heart. I also might add frost to the image to make it stand out.

Even though it’s not there, I’ve also adjusted the brightness, contrast and colour to the footage to match the cool feel of the footage.

I will add the band name and the album title to the blip-vert and future blipvert once I complete making the logo through Illustrator.

Stabilisation

Here, I am stabilising each of my footage scenes for my blipverts so that they’ll remain still. Incase you didn’t notice, I decided to work on the second blipvert, Winter, first. I’ll do the Tomorrow blipvert last as that involves tracking.

Next

I am now going to create different blipvert folders and add my footage and images, as it will be easier to create my blipverts, without searching for the correct footage etc. I will now source the track and cut the music to the correct time.

Typography

Before i start, ive decided to find out the typography used on the album. I have found out that it is domus - tilting extra light with a modified cross bar on the groups name. At the moment i am thinking of creating this in photoshop and compositing in into the blipvert, so all the blipverts typography match.

vignettes

I am looking at maybe adding vignettes into my blipverts to focus the attention and add depth. I really like how they work with muted colour tones to add the emotion of sadness. I really like the first two images as it really shows the power simple effects can have without all the overdone vfx. I have to remember the genre of the album and the emotion it needs to portray.

Daughter - How

For my final colour grade inspiration, i have found a track by daughter. Again the colour grade is muted and desaturated to a point, which adds instantly the feel of loss and sadness. Using the colour grades in brown blue and grey. This is something i want to create in my blipverts, it will give the viewer a feel for the albums sound and genre.

Cole Swindell - "Break Up In The End" (Official Music Video)

 The  next track i came across is ‘break up the end’. I really like the muted tones in this,emphasising the blue/grey, but warming the tones on the important objects like faces, fire etc. This idea could work well with the skeleton leaves, emphasising the leaves in the shot, to strengthen the lyric meaning.
