Snapshot of my current work in progress! Coming soon to an etsy near you! (This etsy, to be specific: www.etsy.com/shop/thehabersmashery)
Finally getting back into the sewing swing. First make: matching derby accessories.
Roller derby related arts and crafts! Scrim tops for everybody!
Today, I was productive! Finished off three sets of armbands for roller derby and I'm about to make a few mouth guard holders as well!
Every year my dad forgets to do the Christmas shopping until way too late so he makes these at 5 o'clock Christmas morning.
All you need is a few bills, a couple of coins and a couple of paperclips. With a bit of folding and scotch tape you’ve got your very own money angel Christmas ornament!
This is also really good as a gift for a gift exchange if you’re strapped for time.
Throwback Thursday to when I made this adorable Alice in Wonderland backpack!
I’ve actually just come into some of the same fabric and I’m tempted to make another one! The question is, do you like the frilly straps?
Look at my beautiful hat! A good friend of mine made it for me and it’s perfect.
(If you want a perfect hat too, go find her on etsy! Existentialhippy.etsy.com)
I made a skirt. It's cute. My room was (and still is) an absolute mess.
Team tie-dye!
Just some work in progress and then completed shots of a commission I worked on this summer/autumn. It's the same Destiny cloak that I've made before, but with a black base instead of white. Making it was a lot of fun!
Here we are in all our glory! Maki Nishikino and Nozomi Toujou from the Victorian set from Love Live! School Idol Project! I learned a lot while I was making this cosplay, especially since I didn't use a pattern for any of it! I highly recommend finding a sewing book that teaches you how to make a body block and how to fit it to your body. That way you can make your own patterns fairly easily! Photo credit to NP Photography (who was really awesome!)
Here's a work in progress shot of a cosplay I was working on this summer. So much fabric, so much gathering! My friend and I decided to dress up as Love Live characters from the anime/cell phone game School Idol Project. I went as Maki Nishkino and my friend went as Toujou Nozomi from the Victorian set from the cell phone game. More pics to follow!
Today I would like to talk to you about the miracle of crinoline tape, or horse hair tape. If you have a dress or skirt that needs some body at the hem this stuff is perfect! You stitch it to the right side of the hem, fold it over and iron it down, then top stitch over it. Not only does it look great, it saves you hours of carefully measuring and ironing and sewing hems. I got through at least twelve meters of hemming in a matter of a couple of hours where traditional hemming would have taken me days.
Made myself some new drinking glasses by recycling old beer bottles. It's super easy! I scored the bottles using a glass cutter I got from my local hardware store and then alternated pouring near boiling and cold water over the cut until the top just popped off! After that all you need to do is sand the rim a bit and you've got a new drinking glass!

Not bad for an hour and a half of work and next to no materials. Last minute costumes for the win! Next time I'll invest in some garden wire and a headband, and actually take some time to get everything perfect.
