Birthday: 10/30 (month/day)

Asa is an 18 year old born into the business of inventing and tinkering. His parents moved from Inazuma to Fontaine some years before he was born. When news of Fontaine’s advancing technology had reached his father, he’d believed that would be the perfect place to start his shop. Since the passing of his father seven years ago, Asa has been the sole owner and only employee of the Miyaoi Tinkerer’s Den.

One of the more recent adoptees into the House of the Hearth had once again snuck out in the middle of the night. This had been the fourth time this week. How does he keep escaping?? If he snuck out to where Loki thought he had, this was probably the most stubborn and reckless kid he’s encountered in a while.

Loki didn't find tracking the kid down to be particularly challenging— ofcourse she wouldn't. Asa had yet to learn how to cover his tracks well enough to get away with little stunts like this.

Besides, sneaking out was much harder when one of your parents rarely slept. Loki had let Asa have the freedom of his escape route, not wanting the kid to feel suffocated or trapped. That would help nobody. Still, she made sure to keep an eye on him. It would be worse should he hurt himself.

In the form of an ordinary street cat, Loki did not stand out greatly. Or at all, for that matter. Hidden by the shadows, he silently followed Asa's trail.

Asa had walked all the way back to town before hitting his first road block: the road to his home was closed. That made sense; the explosion did quite a bit of damage to the rest of the neighborhood. That didn’t stop him from climbing over the barrier they’d put up. However, he was immediately picked up by one of the reconstruction workers.

“Hey! Let me go! I’ve gotta help my dad clean up!”

The worker reassured Asa they’d clean everything up in no time before setting him down on the other side of the barrier. This made him shake the barrier in frustration.

“I can’t run along home! My home’s on the other side of this!”

The cat trailing after him turned into a well dressed woman who approached the child and the reconstruction worker, her presence announced by the sound of her heels. She placed a hand on Asa's shoulder, giving the man a small smile "I'm so sorry to bother you, sir. Its been a complicated situation after the... unfortunate incident."

Then se turned to Asa, gently trying to guide him away "Asa, we've been over this" she murmured "There isn't anything for you to clean up. Please just stay in the house, you could get hurt if you try to go back there"

Asa kept holding onto the barrier, but it didn’t take much force to make him let go. When his hands were moved he crossed his arms instead.

“Papa and I have rebuilt parts of the shop plenty of times! Why is this any different?”

Just as he was about to ask how Loki found him, a leaf fell out of his hair. He grumbled and shook the other leaves off his head.

"Because this time, its not just parts of the shop. And its not safe. Tell me this, would your papa really want you to go and do things that'll get you injured?"

Loki crouched down in front of Asa as she spoke, running a hand through his hair to brush the leaves off.

Tears started forming in his eyes as he shook his head.

“…No, he wouldn’t.”

Asa reached to move Loki’s hand out of his hair. It’d probably take a while for him to trust her enough for touch.

Loki moved her hand away. "I know this is hard for you, if it were my home or my father I'd want to go back too. But you need to understand, the workers are doing their best to fix everything up and make it safe as quickly as they can. And you need to be patient while they do so"

“I know, but…”

He sniffed and wiped his eyes with his palm.

“They’re gonna take the shop away if I’m not there. And if the shop is gone, all that’ll be left of papa is…” In that moment he realized something was missing from the top of his head. “His goggles! Where did they… Oh no, no, no, I must’ve dropped them when…”

"No, they won't. And even if they want to, we have more than enough money to both buy it back and make sure nobody else can try. Nobody except you will get your father's shop" Loki promised.

"Hey, hey, don't panic. We can still get them back. Where do you think you lost them?"

“You promise?” Asa takes a deep breath in relief. Then he starts looking around for his father’s goggles.

“…They must have snagged on the bush I fell in.” He started walking back the way he came.

"I do. And its certainly one that I can keep." Apart from a few hyperspecific and incredibly unlikely scenarios Loki highly doubted acquiring the shop would be difficult in any way.

"I see... well I'm sure they'll be okay. I can't imagine goggles are a particularly common item to be stolen. In the worst case scenario, we can just unleash the hounds to find it."

The mention of the hounds made Asa shake his head anxiously. “What if they get scratched up? Or break? I can’t risk being a more reckless owner than I already have!”

"Its only the worst case" Loki assured "And they won't damage your glasses. They're plenty capable of being gentle when they have to"

“Right. Only worst case.” Asa repeated to calm himself down.

They eventually make it back to the House of the Hearth. A bush next to the wall looks to have something inside. Asa spots what’s in the bush and rushes over to get it out.

[Mini lore] Father’s Day

Asa didn’t usually pay much mind to holidays like this. Hell, he’d forgotten Mother’s Day existed until Ida came in asking for help fixing a gift for Fariba.

But today felt incessant. Almost every single one of his customers were either with their fathers, getting something for their fathers, or were fathers themselves picking up orders made days ago. Never in his 8 years of running this store on his own had he heard the word “father” uttered so many times. By the time his last customer left, he felt like he was about to burst.

“…Happy father’s day to you too, sir. Have a great afternoon.” He gritted his teeth as he shut the door behind the man who had ordered half his bolt stock. The door locked immediately for once, and he threw his apron on the desk.

In the back, he walked over to the locked door and sat with his back to the wall. He should not be feeling this heavy. It’s been 8 years. Why is his vision so blurry? He takes his goggles off to fiddle with the strap, then leans against the door.

When Dottore eventually returned to his lab, he could hear someone else’s footsteps scurrying around. Whoever was in his lab ducked under a table as they heard his footsteps. They then knocked something onto the floor by accident.

Dottore, like any sane person, grabbed a pyro gun he kept mounted on the wall by the coatrack, beginning to look around for the noise. Dottore whipped around and aimed the gun at the tray that fell, slowly approaching.

Before he could get close enough to see the person’s face, they raised their hands in surrender. They must’ve heard the gun come off the wall.

PLEASE DON’T SHOOT!

That voice… it sounded rather young. Weird, no one in the building that young was stupid enough to enter his lab unsupervised.

Who could possibly be in his lab trying to rummage around? Especially someone this young sounding?

He slowly stood up, keeping his hands in the air. As he stepped into the open, Dottore could observe that he was quite short. Though the clothes that were too big for him could be making him look smaller. The boy couldn’t be older than 20.

…Sorry for intruding. The door was open, and I was intrigued by your work. At least I assume this is your lab.

“It is my lab, yes. I said to everyone last night, whoever leaves last locks up properly, but it appears that didn’t happen if you managed to weasel your way in. Do you work for anyone? Anyone in other nations?”

He shook his head, trying not to look as scared as he clearly was.

No, I don’t work for anyone. Unless being self-employed counts. I… usually work in Fontaine. I got stuck in a shipment truck. May I say, the locks from this nation are way harder to pick than Fontanian ones. Uh, which nation am I in?

Well, great. Now Dottore would have to execute his current guards and train up new ones. He eventually set the gun down at his desk and sat down, rubbing his temples. Of course some random guy just managed to sneak in. The gun was within reach of Dottore, but still grabbable.

The guy remained exactly where he was, unsure what to do. Should he make a run for it? No, he’d get shot immediately. Should he say something? The silence was starting to feel heavy. No, that’d be weird. It’d be weirder if he just stood here, though…

As soon as the guy tried to step back, Dottore snapped his fingers [surprisingly well for wearing gloves] and pointed on the ground next to him. “You are not leaving just yet, get over here.”

After a couple more minutes of sitting and pondering, Dottore stood up and looked directly at him. “Alright. You’re coming with me. I’m going to tell my agents what idiotic imbeciles they are, and then you’re going back to wherever you came from.

The guy stood exactly where Dottore told him to, not moving a muscle unless told otherwise. He hadn’t realized how tall Dottore was until just now, but he knew better than to say anything about that. He already nearly got himself in trouble by mentioning something completely unrelated to the situation at hand, he didn’t wish to do that again. Archons, this doctor is way scarier up close.
