Finally came the day where Diluc had to go to Dottore for medical care. Why, one might ask? Well, Diluc liked using Pyro without gloves on sometimes, and now he has third degree burns on his palms.

Diluc now sat on a medical table waiting for Dottore or one of the segments to arrive, rhythmically tapping his fingers on the surgical steel table despite how badly his hands were seared. It was not a pretty sight at all.

Yay. Getting medical aid from the man who killed his father, ain't that fun.

Dottore grumbled about how idiotic Diluc was, rubbing his arms with hydrogen peroxide with one hand and scraping the dead skin off using a razor blade with the other.

“Idiotic child. If you keep this up, I’ll have to chop off your arms and give you prosthetics. And prosthetics can get heavy if you get one from someone other than me. You’ll also get phantom pain, and it feels like getting electrocuted.”

“These look just barely like third degree burns, you likely can still feel a bit. I’m giving you electrolytes and fluids, and I’ll be giving you a light sedative and local anesthesia after this. You have perfectly fine arms, you need to be much more careful.”

“You're skilled.” If not a bit mental, but that can be overlooked sometimes.

Dottore injected the thing in the vials into his arms, and Diluc couldn’t feel the pain soon after.

The right was a gold metallic shade, and the left was a pale blue, almost white. Both had blue pulsing lines running through the fingers like veins, and neither seemed to be biological.

“Understood I will take them as needed.” Diluc was still holding the ice packs, the chill soothing his aching hands. He felt like if he removed his hands, all the pain would just return to them.

As much as Diluc hated Dottore, he had to admit, the man had nice bedside manners. Dottore started cleaning up, throwing away the extra syringe needles and peeling off the latex gloves to toss as well. Now, Diluc got much better look at his hands. The right was a gold metallic shade, and the left was a pale blue, almost white. Both had blue pulsing lines running through the fingers like veins, and neither seemed to be biological.

Diluc couldn't help but stare at the prosthetics. It was impolite, but they were just.. pretty.

Okay, Diluc should absolutely not be thinking that about the man who got his father killed. Crepus would be rolling in his grave if he knew.

Why was it so hard to think of Dottore as the man who killed his father now?

Dottore didn’t immediately reglove, just continued on with his bare hands. The metallic hand was more of a prosthetic than the pale blue one, responding a millisecond later and appearing to move a little slower. Perhaps if Diluc did need prosthetics, he could trust this beautiful- no, wait, not beautiful! This man was dangerous!

Diluc was going to bash his head into a wall. Can he stop thinking about Dottore, period? Apparently not because he wants to feel those hands on his skin again.

Barbatos save him, he was going to implode.

At least he looked semi-stoic on the outside, if you completely ignore his flushed ears.

Is it possible to burn himself to a crisp so he can escape whatever the hell he's feeling?

No, that would just make Dottore have to take care of him longer. Oh god Dottore was staring at him. OH GOD HE WAS APPROACHING.

Dottore pressed the back of his left hand to Diluc’s forehead. “You look overheated. Do you feel feverish?”

Diluc desperately tried not to make any sort of embarrassing sound but he's not sure if he succeeded.

He was also pretty damn sure that he could not breathe anymore.

“I'm... fine.” He cursed at how unconvincing he sounded but hoped Dottore would drop it.

But also, damn, the cold touch against his forehead felt nice. Oh goddammit was he seriously letting his guard down around his father's murderer?

Dottore hummed, pulling away. He grabbed a cool washcloth and placed it on Diluc’s forehead, tipping his head back a little so it stayed on. “That should cool you down, but you’re likely overheated due to excessive pyro usage.”

Okay Diluc, breathe. Calm the fuck down you're a grown man in charge of the largest wine industry in Mondstadt.

The teeniest, tiniest whine slipped past Diluc's lips when those borderline hypothermic hands pulled away from him and he hoped to all the Archons that Dottore did NOT hear him.

“Mhm. Thank you.”

oh dear archons dottore heard him. ohhhhh he was done for. “…you’re welcome, I suppose.” …maybe he could get injured more to show up in Dottore’s office more often…

Dottore would notice Diluc getting hurt more often, surely. Diluc spent the first few months in the Fatui without being injured at all, it would be too suspicious to start coming in battered and bruised.

And also it was clear Dottore heard him and now Diluc is going to throw himself into the sea.

Dottore sent Diluc on his way with the medication and bandages. What was the easiest and least painful way to snap his leg.

Unsurprisingly, the moment Diluc was cleared and off his assigned medications, he ended up sparring with Childe and had to be assisted in the commute to lab because apparently he broke his fucking ribcage after getting hit in the chest with a polearm.

Diluc you're supposed to be smart, what the fuck.

Of course, dumbass was right back in Dottore’s office. He was filling out a form about Diluc’s injury, “I thought you were smarter than to fight this soon after your last injury.”

Diluc didn't say anything because the injury was entirely on purpose. It was absolutely stupid of him but what else could he do? It's not like he can just go up to Dottore and ask him out.

Okay now where the hell did that idea come from?

Yes… definitely not like he could ask Dottore out, that’d be ludicrous…

Dottore had to strip Diluc’s shirt and had to put his hands directly on his body to assess the damage. Oh my god.

Diluc really, really hoped Dottore could not feel how hard his heart was beating in his chest. This was so fucking embarrassing and nerve-wracking and Diluc felt like he might die right here.

Dottore tried tugging Diluc’s broken ribs forward, trying to set them back in place. “Any problems breathing? Pain around the heart area?”

Dorian regretted visiting Snezhnaya. It was way too cold, the water was downright freezing, actually, and every moment felt like he was being taken by hypothermia.

But! On the bright side, he did get a warm hotel room and warm winter clothes that he would likely never wear again unless to visit the land of the Tsaritsa.

Now, why was he in Sneznaya? Well, he could give a lot of reasons, but truthfully it was because Father got tired of hearing him complain about being restless at home. Which is why he ended up waking up on a ship headed to Snezhnaya with no clue as to how he got on said ship.

But hey, he was enjoying himself. Mostly. He was however a bit bored. If only someone would come up to him for a chat, right?

Dorian had a feeling he was being watched. But, then again, he has always been watched. Even in the privacy of his bedroom, he had cameras monitoring his life.

So, he was actually pretty damn sure that someone was watching him. And.. taking notes? Dorian could hear the faint scratching of pen on paper.

He's not surprised, really. It wasn't hard to tell that he wasn't human, so obviously someone would be curious. The only question is who.

Dottore crept closer, watching Dorian without blinking. He wasn’t wearing his mask, having planned on being alone, so those wide red eyes staring were a little unnerving.

Dorian, with his innate ability to feel energy around him, turned towards the approaching surge he felt. It wasn't like that of a Vision user.. Not even the odd concentration like Neuvillette. But it was there, and Dorian was struck dumb by the sight of a man watching him from behind a crate.

“…would you like to come with me.”

“...Do I have a choice or are you just being polite?”

[dottore-official]

“I’m being polite, yes. Now come along, let’s go.”

“Yeah, okay. I'm coming.” He had a feeling that Dottore would just sedate him and kidnap him if he tried to run.

Dottore coaxed him into a truck that was meant to survive Snezhnaya but was clearly for personal use, getting him in the passenger seat. “Thank you for cooperating, now please buckle up.”

“If you keep me longer than a week then you'll have a very angry man showing up to come get me. For the record that's a warning, I really don't like the guy who would be looking for me.” He buckles up without much protest, drumming the seat as he takes in the interior. Fontaine was high-tech, yes, but not to the degree that Snezhnaya is.

“I see. Thank you for the warning, at least.” Dottore began driving, following all road safety laws. The truck had so many buttons and knobs… it was really interesting, actually.

Dottore drove to a lab outside of Snezhnaya, on the outskirts of Nod Krai. He pulled up, turned off the truck, and hopped out. “Alright, come along.”

Dorian hops out after a moment's hesitation, most definitely rolling his ankle much to his chagrin but paying no mind to it as he followed Dottore into the lab.

Dottore ordered some agents to grab equipment and others to leave, all shocked Dottore was here on his day off, before leading Dorian into a small room with plants and glass. “Do you need ice? I noticed you rolled your ankle getting out of the truck.”

“Oh no, I'm fine. I can hardly feel it really. It's just annoying to do.” Dorian looks around the room curiously, taking in every detail like he was observing something sacred.

[dottore-official]

Dottore shrugged, “If you insist.”

He began with baseline observations, such as blood pressure, bpm, oxygen levels, so on and so forth.

All were rather standard except for his heartbeats per minute, which were slightly elevated beyond normal but consistent. It could be a fae thing, considering that sirens lived primarily in or near water.

It was an interesting thing to note nonetheless.

Dottore pressed his fingers to Dorian’s neck to make sure the bpm was an accurate read, but wrote it down nonetheless once confirming it was accurate. Dottore took Dorian’s hand in his own, feeling the webbing between his fingers.

There's nothing too special about the webbing, it was a translucent blue and felt just like human skin. However, Dorian's nails were sharper than normal, almost like claws. They were also black, which could be a stylistic choice or naturally-occuring.

Dottore ran his gloved finger across the nails, trying to get a feel for how sharp they truly were. “The coloring. Is the α-keratin naturally black, or is it a stylistic choice?”

Sharp enough to slice through gloves with ease, apparently. Like a hot knife through a stick of butter.

“Stylistic. I've been meaning to redo them after one of them got chipped.” And because Father didn't like it when he wore black, but he kept quiet about that.

[dottore-official]

“Ah, I see.” Dottore pulled back to begin changing his gloves. “I usually keep nail polish here for Pantalone since his chips every now and then. I have purple, gold, and black, but I assume you aren’t interested in the former two. Would you like me to go grab some?”

Dorian nodded eagerly, brightening up significantly.

“Yes please. Purple will do, considering the theme of my next show.”

[dottore-official]

“I see. One moment.” Dottore walks out, leaving Dorian alone in the cold metal room, before coming back with incredibly high end shimmery purple nail polish. “I’m sure he won’t mind much, he can always buy more.”

“Oh that is a very pretty color. An expensive brand too.” Dorian tilts his head to the side, not entirely unlike a cat.

“Pantalone, you said? I will have to thank him. Does he like shiny things?” Dorian wasn't stupid, he knew that he was standing in front of a Fatui Harbinger. He noticed it as soon as he saw the Agents in the lab. But hey. Maybe this could be his way out of that horrible house.

“Yes, adores anything that sparkles or glimmers. I can’t blame him, I myself enjoy shimmery objects.” How nice… Dottore wrote down the factoid about Dorian’s sharp nails and normal colored α-keratin.

“I'm sure I can find something in my collection that will catch his eye while also remaining useful. I'm quite partial to trinkets, but my diving endeavors have procured a lot more than just pretty baubles. It is only fair that I give him something in return for allowing me to borrow his nail polish.” Dorian took the nail polish, smile unchanging as he removed the black nail polish with an acetone wipe he kept in his pocket and began applying the purple instead. It was really pretty. He would have to get some for himself when he had the time.

“And I'm sure I could find something for you as well. As long as you do something small for me in return.” Just like any other fae, Dorian liked deals. Bargaining, favors, he was skilled at giving first and then using it to his advantage. But still, he didn't know how to not be blunt about it.

“Oh? A deal? Interesting. I’d rather hear about what you’d want out of this favor before you initiate. After all, I’ve heard of plenty of deals with others going sideways.”

[angelifluctus]

“I don't really enjoy my 'father's' presence, in fact he sort of treats me like a cash cow. So I was wondering if you, a high-ranking Fatui Harbinger, could fake my death so I can finally leave and go get my degree in biology.”

[dottore-official]

“…hm. I see. I take it you don’t want any body to be recovered. Could you schedule a show or something of the like within the next… let’s say three days?”

[angelifluctus]

Dorian could probably push his next show to be a bit earlier. So he nodded as he finished painting his nails.

“I can manage to do that. I don't want a body to be recovered, but I know that Father would come looking for me regardless. He's not one to let go of his possessions, I'm afraid.”

[dottore-official]

“We’re going to blow you up and leave a mere hologram at the scene. I have perfected the art of physical holograms that are extensions of myself that can interact with objects around them. We can make one look like you and blow it up. But I’d like something very nice in return. Monetary value doesn’t matter, merely appearance.”

[angelifluctus]

“That sounds perfect. I always did want to die a dramatic death on stage.”

He thinks for a moment of what he had in his collection, and then remembered a decorative piece he owned that could be used to overlay on a mask.

“I do believe I have a piece of jewelry that can overlay a mask, if you'd like that. It's pearl and red diamond, if I recall correctly.”

[dottore-official]

“Hm, I’ll have to take a look. But that does sound nice. Now, give me three days to prepare and you’ll permanently disappear.”

[angelifluctus]

“Three days it is. Honestly, I didn't think it'd be that easy.”

[dottore-official]

“I know, I’m more benevolent than others give me credit for. You could’ve asked much sooner and I’d still be able to help out.”

[angelifluctus]

“Well damn. But in my defense, I was kind of locked up for most of my life.”

[dottore-official]

“You know what, that’s understandable. Anyways, meet me here in three days, you’ll be a free man by the evening.”

[angelifluctus]

“Three days it is. Did you get all the information you wanted or did you want to prod at me a bit more?”

[dottore-official]

“Well, if you’re offering.”

After Dottore got his fill of poking and prodding, he dismissed Dorian and began prepping the phantom to fake the idol’s death.

Dorian left very quickly, seeing as he needed to get back to his hotel before nightfall.

[dottore-official]

He made it, and could only start waiting to get plucked out of this terrible life.

A few days later, the day of the show Dorian had suddenly scheduled, Dottore snuck backstage with a mannequin that looked just like him, but didn’t really move. “Hello, Dorian, good to see you again. Are you ready to go?”

“Likewise. I am quite ready to leave. Twelve years of this is tiring.”

[dottore-official]

“Good. After this goes down, you’ll either be placed in the House of the Hearth, or stay in my lab if she has no room for you.”

Dottore did… something?? Dorian hadn’t even realized Dottore was wearing the same outfit as the mannequin until he ran a hand over his face, changing the details to look like Dorian’s, before plucking his mask off. He had a plan, right? Right??

“That is quite the interesting trick. I did not know that was something that could be done. But just what are you planning to do?”

[dottore-official]

Dottore shook his head a little, letting his color and cut shift towards Dorian’s.

“Thank you, it’s a simple illusion trick. I’ll go out with the dummy behind me, invisible obviously, act as you, swap myself out with the dummy during smoke or something similar and sneak off stage, and no one will notice when the mannequin goes up in flames.”

[angelifluctus]

“Quite foolproof. And here I thought you would simply swap the mannequin with my body while I fled the stage.”

[dottore-official]

“Why would I do that? That plan could easily go awry if you get caught on something or you can’t flee fast enough.”

Dottore finished changing his appearance, looking nearly identical to Dorian. He cleared his throat, sounding like Dorian mostly, if he had a sore throat.

“Anyways, I do believe I’m on soon.”

“I do believe you are. I do hope you have fun singing opera.” Dorian remained backstage as Dottore took his place, changing out of his performance wear as soon as he was alone and putting a mask over his face to provide some sense of anonymity.

Now, he just had to wait.

Dottore sounded rather good, his voice only cracking with a couple of notes outside his register. He managed to play Dorian well, holding the now invisible mannequin with one hand and dragging it along as he moved.

Dottore set the mannequin up after some smoke from the pyrotechnics he set up covered him. He made it visible, and himself invisible, quickly rushing back, as he had the explosion set on a timer. Of course, as with lots of things in Dottore’s life, it didn’t go as planned. The stage was creaky and had loose floorboards. One of the boards snapped under his weight, and of course, he was completely invisible as the explosion went off nearby.

While Dorian may not have seen Dottore fall, he most definitely heard the snapping of wood under the explosion and rushed under the stage to find the harbinger.

“Doctor! Where have you gone?!”

[dottore-official]

Dottore’s lower half was visible, and his outfit was torn to shreds due to the broken wood. After tugging on his legs, he dropped down to below the stage. He looked like himself again, but his back and arms were burnt, and his hair had a couple spots he had to quickly pat out. He looked a little disheveled and injured, but not majorly so.

“Alright, you are not severely injured fortunately. Can you walk?”

[dottore-official]

Dottore managed to sit up, quickly tugging off his prosthetic right arm. The flesh there looked a bit burnt, likely due to the metal rapidly heating up. Above stage, people were screaming, and others were trying to get to the stage to check on ‘Dorian.’

“I’m fine, I can move just fine. You better not have been seen, or this’ll all have been for nothing.”

“No one saw me. There is an entrance under the stage to my dressing room.” Dorian looked up at the sound of people calling for him in distress, and his expression turned a bit sour as he cursed them in Fontainian.

“The stage is going to come down if we do not leave immediately.”

Dottore got up, a little gimpy, but still moving away from under the stage with Dorian. Now, they needed to get away from the venue.

Dorian didn't try to rush Dottore, but once they were both out of the venue he was significantly more eager to leave the area entirely.

Dottore got into the truck he first used to drive Dorian towards his research facility, wincing a little as he sat down. Once Dorian was in, he started driving.

“I’m taking you to the House of the Hearth. Arlecchino will take good care of you there, she’s used to working with all sorts of people.”

[angelifluctus]

“The House of the Hearth will do, thank you. Thank you again for this.”

[dottore-official]

Dottore nodded, quietly driving. He went on for a while until the venue was completely out of sight, taking some turns until he drove up to a large building in the middle of the Fatui grounds. He parked the truck and opened the door.

“I’m going in to speak with Arlecchino. Please stay here, lock the doors, and don’t let anyone but me inside.”

Dorian nods in understanding and locks the door once Dottore gets out, leaning back in his seat as he watches the man head inside the House of the Hearth to speak with Arlecchino.

Dottore walked out a bit later, slipping into the truck and sitting down with a sigh.

“The Hearth is at maximum capacity, and she laughed at my current physical state. You are going to stay in my main labs until I can figure out somewhere to put you.”

[angelifluctus]

“That is fine too. Though I believe laughing at your current condition is a tad bit rude.”

[dottore-official]

“Well, the woman does hate me and is awaiting my downfall, I can’t say I’m surprised.”

Dottore started the truck back up and began driving, taking Dorian to the main labs in the heart of Snezhnaya.

[angelifluctus]

“Are a lot of people awaiting your downfall?”

[dottore-official]

“Tens, if not hundreds of people. I am not very well liked.” Well how?? He seemed so nice! Maybe a little weird, but nice!

[angelifluctus]

“I feel like at least half of that is deserved. You did blow up a venue with at least several hundred people inside. But I also kill people by singing, so I cannot really talk.”

[dottore-official]

“We both have our flaws, don’t we?”

They pulled up to the lab, and Dottore hopped out. Immediately, Dorian was swarmed by several other Dottores, all fascinated by and trying to touch Dorian.

[angelifluctus]

“Well this is unnerving. Hey do not poke my gills please.” Dorian winced, slapping a hand over the slits in his neck used for underwater respiration.

“Is this a hobby of yours, perchance?”

[dottore-official]

Dottore yanked the segments back, “Apologies about them, they’re very touchy and curious. Please do ignore them.” The segments pouted, but eventually left once they were told off.

“You cannot blame them for being curious, I was simply caught off guard.”

[dottore-official]

“I can, in fact, blame them, as they should know better.” Dottore lectured the segments in an older proto-Sumerian language, making them both giggle and run back off.

[angelifluctus]

“They are different versions of you, yes? A few of them look like children.”

[dottore-official]

“Yes, they are, and yes, they are. Most of my clones, segments as I like to call them, are adults. But a few are children. I keep them around merely for opinions and tests.” Did this mean there was potentially an infant segment..?

[angelifluctus]

“I see. It's quite fascinating, I must say. I guess I will not be alone like I thought I would be.”

[dottore-official]

“Oh, definitely not. There’s rarely a quiet moment in the lab, there’s about a dozen or two segments at any given time.”

Oh… that was a lot of people… Dottore guided Dorian into the lab, and indeed, there was a loud alarm going off, different Dottores screaming at each other, and a large fire in the corner. Dottore mumbled a ‘sorry for the mess’ to Dorian, before walking towards the murder of segments to try and calm the situation.

“At least the lab is lively. Oh that is a lot of fire. I would not be able to help in this situation, my vision is Anemo.”

[dottore-official]

Dottore joined in the screaming and cursing, yelling for fire extinguishers and hydro delusions. Once the fire was put out, the alarm was turned off, and Dottore continued chewing them all out for being stupid and unprofessional. Once all the segments were sent back to their work, Dottore returned to Dorian.

“Apologies about that, they’re usually much more… put together, than this. I’ll take you to a temporary room for you to stay in, so follow me.”

“It was a little entertaining to me, at least. But very well, where will I be staying?” He asks as he follows Dottore, not unlike a lost duckling following its mother.

Dottore guided Dorian to a smaller bedroom, about 8x10, with a soft bed, rugs, a shelf of books, and a big window with curtains. “You will be staying in here for now. The cafeteria is just further down the hall, and the bathroom is the door across from yours.”

Dorian took an experimental seat on the bed, patting the mattress with consideration.

“Is it a bad thing that this may be the most comfortable bed I have ever sat on?”

[dottore-official]

“Generally, no. Pantalone pays for high end things for my lab. In your specific case, yes. If you get rehomed, I’m making sure you end up somewhere nice.”

[angelifluctus]

“...That's not something I am very used to.” He says softly, running his clawed hand over the covers gently so as to not get his claws caught on the fabric.

[dottore-official]

“Perhaps you should get more used to it then.” The covers were really soft… he should meet this ‘Pantalone’ guy who apparently likes expensive things.

[angelifluctus]

“Yes.. I agree.” Dorian rested his hand on the cover for a moment more before looking up at Dottore.

“Would it be too bold of me to ask if I could meet Pantalone? He has me intrigued.”

[dottore-official]

“I’m not sure if he has the time. But if he does, I’ll arrange for you two to meet. I’m sure he’d be interested by you.”

[angelifluctus]

“Thank you. I would just prefer giving him his gift in person once I settle in.”

[dottore-official]

Dottore was a little intrigued by the idea of Pantalone receiving a ‘gift,’ but he left it be, leaving once Dorian was comfortable. This was a really nice room…

Well. Nothing left to do but settle in, right? But first, a nap.

Finally came the day where Diluc had to go to Dottore for medical care. Why, one might ask? Well, Diluc liked using Pyro without gloves on sometimes, and now he has third degree burns on his palms.

Like an idiot. Great going, Tenth Harbinger.

Diluc now sat on a medical table waiting for Dottore or one of the segments to arrive, rhythmically tapping his fingers on the surgical steel table despite how badly his hands were seared. It was not a pretty sight at all.

Yay. Getting medical aid from the man who killed his father, ain't that fun.

Dottore grumbled about how idiotic Diluc was, rubbing his arms with hydrogen peroxide with one hand and scraping the dead skin off using a razor blade with the other.

“Idiotic child. If you keep this up, I’ll have to chop off your arms and give you prosthetics. And prosthetics can get heavy if you get one from someone other than me. You’ll also get phantom pain, and it feels like getting electrocuted.”

Diluc grumbles as dead skin was scraped away, wincing a little from the burn of hydrogen peroxide and the blood that may have welled under the dead skin.

“My nerves are shot either way, but I'll be more careful next time. I was distracted, is all.”

Dottore peeled off a layer of charred skin, tossing it in a trash bag. He set down his tools, dragging over an IV drip and prodding Diluc’s forearm before pushing the needle in. He opened the drip, before going back to cleaning Diluc’s hands and arms.

“These look just barely like third degree burns, you likely can still feel a bit. I’m giving you electrolytes and fluids, and I’ll be giving you a light sedative and local anesthesia after this. You have perfectly fine arms, you need to be much more careful.”

“Yes, I hear you. I'll be more careful. Archons, my arms hurt. Frankly it's not that fun to smell burning flesh while returning from an assignment. If it hadn't been that bad, I wouldn't be here at all.”

“I know, I know. Now hold still.”

Dottore searched through his cabinets, before grabbing a couple small vials and a bottle. He shook out a couple pills from the bottle, and prepped a syringe to use for the vials. He approached, handing over the pills before trying to find a good spot on his hands.

Diluc simply swallowed the pills dry so Dottore could examine his hands freely, frowning a little but not heavily so.

“You're skilled.” If not a bit mental, but that can be overlooked sometimes.

“...Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, I’ve spent centuries taking care of injuries like these.”

Dottore injected the thing in the vials into his arms, and Diluc couldn’t feel the pain soon after.

“If I have to give you prosthetics, I’m making them slow and clunky.” And what experience could Dottore possibly have in prosthetics??

“Well that's just mean. You'll sabotage a coworker?” Despite his words, his lips quirked up in a faint smile and he sighed in relief as all feeling in his arms disappeared.

“Absolutely. I’ll give you just a block of metal on each arm and tell you to figure it out.”

Dottore rolled back to change latex gloves since one got torn. Diluc saw one of his hands underneath the gloves was gold. Okay, that was a little weird- one was blue???

Diluc didn't comment on it out of politeness. But now the comment on him having perfectly good arms made sense. He will really take better care of himself in the future, if he can help it.

“So mean, but I guess I can't blame you.”

Dottore snapped on a new pair of gloves, before going back to helping Diluc. Now that he was paying attention, Dottore’s hands did feel a little… cold. Heavy, even.

“I’m simply looking out for your best interest. You’re of no use if you’re learning prosthetics. Now tell me, what could’ve prompted this much pyro usage?”

“I was in a tough spot during a fight. An ambush, actually. It was a group against me and I started to panic. As it turns out, using a Delusion and a Vision at once has some unique consequences.” Would it be weird to say that the coldness of Dottore's hands was a little comforting? Diluc always ran hot because of his Vision, but the cold metal of Dottore's prosthetics soothed it in a way.

He was really thinking too hard about this.

It was a rather soothing contrast… Dottore made sure Diluc’s arms and hands were well taken care of. Maybe he could ask about the story behind them…

“I should revoke that Vision of yours. You already have a delusion, and we don’t need a line directly to Celestia on you.”

“The Regrator keeps his and also has a Delusion. As does Childe.” Diluc points out, remembering the few times he saw the other Harbingers while walking the halls of Zalpolyarny Palace.

“They’re going to both die young anyways, but you likely have a bit of life left in you. I’d prefer if you didn’t waste it.”

Dottore held onto Diluc’s hands with his own. The cool feeling was rather nice…

Feeling was slowly returning to his hands and his fingers twitched slightly.

“Is that an order, Doctor?” He sounds a little more than a bit amused.

“Yes, consider it an order. If I have to drag your soul back from the Leylines, it won’t be comfortable.”

Dottore stretched Diluc’s fingers a bit.

“Very well then. I will be more careful from now on.” Diluc was mostly numb now, but he could move each of his fingers independently without issue. The skin would surely scar, but that was unavoidable either way.

Once Diluc was able to move his fingers again, Dottore immediately slapped a couple ice packs on his hands to try and limit swelling. “You’ll be getting antibiotics and vitamins to promote healing and prevent infections. You will finish all your antibiotics, or I will personally hunt you down and put you in the ground.”

“I'm not like Childe, I take my medication properly. You will not need to hunt me down.”

“Good.”

Dottore handed over a couple unlabeled pill bottles. “The pink and black capsules are antibiotics, and the white tablets are painkillers. One antibiotic twice a day with meals until finished, and two painkillers as needed.”

“Understood I will take them as needed.” Diluc was still holding the ice packs, the chill soothing his aching hands. He felt like if he removed his hands, all the pain would just return to them.

As much as Diluc hated Dottore, he had to admit, the man had nice bedside manners. Dottore started cleaning up, throwing away the extra syringe needles and peeling off the latex gloves to toss as well. Now, Diluc got much better look at his hands. The right was a gold metallic shade, and the left was a pale blue, almost white. Both had blue pulsing lines running through the fingers like veins, and neither seemed to be biological.

Diluc couldn't help but stare at the prosthetics. It was impolite, but they were just.. pretty.

Okay, Diluc should absolutely not be thinking that about the man who got his father killed. Crepus would be rolling in his grave if he knew.

Why was it so hard to think of Dottore as the man who killed his father now?

Dottore didn’t immediately reglove, just continued on with his bare hands. The metallic hand was more of a prosthetic than the pale blue one, responding a millisecond later and appearing to move a little slower. Perhaps if Diluc did need prosthetics, he could trust this beautiful- no, wait, not beautiful! This man was dangerous!

Diluc was going to bash his head into a wall. Can he stop thinking about Dottore, period? Apparently not because he wants to feel those hands on his skin again.

Barbatos save him, he was going to implode.

At least he looked semi-stoic on the outside, if you completely ignore his flushed ears.

Is it possible to burn himself to a crisp so he can escape whatever the hell he's feeling?

No, that would just make Dottore have to take care of him longer. Oh god Dottore was staring at him. OH GOD HE WAS APPROACHING.

Dottore pressed the back of his left hand to Diluc’s forehead. “You look overheated. Do you feel feverish?”

Diluc desperately tried not to make any sort of embarrassing sound but he's not sure if he succeeded.

He was also pretty damn sure that he could not breathe anymore.

“I'm... fine.” He cursed at how unconvincing he sounded but hoped Dottore would drop it.

But also, damn, the cold touch against his forehead felt nice. Oh goddammit was he seriously letting his guard down around his father's murderer?

Dottore hummed, pulling away. He grabbed a cool washcloth and placed it on Diluc’s forehead, tipping his head back a little so it stayed on. “That should cool you down, but you’re likely overheated due to excessive pyro usage.”

Okay Diluc, breathe. Calm the fuck down you're a grown man in charge of the largest wine industry in Mondstadt.

The teeniest, tiniest whine slipped past Diluc's lips when those borderline hypothermic hands pulled away from him and he hoped to all the Archons that Dottore did NOT hear him.

“Mhm. Thank you.”

oh dear archons dottore heard him. ohhhhh he was done for. “…you’re welcome, I suppose.” …maybe he could get injured more to show up in Dottore’s office more often…

Dottore would notice Diluc getting hurt more often, surely. Diluc spent the first few months in the Fatui without being injured at all, it would be too suspicious to start coming in battered and bruised.

And also it was clear Dottore heard him and now Diluc is going to throw himself into the sea.

Dottore sent Diluc on his way with the medication and bandages. What was the easiest and least painful way to snap his leg.

Unsurprisingly, the moment Diluc was cleared and off his assigned medications, he ended up sparring with Childe and had to be assisted in the commute to lab because apparently he broke his fucking ribcage after getting hit in the chest with a polearm.

Diluc you're supposed to be smart, what the fuck.

Of course, dumbass was right back in Dottore’s office. He was filling out a form about Diluc’s injury, “I thought you were smarter than to fight this soon after your last injury.”

Diluc didn't say anything because the injury was entirely on purpose. It was absolutely stupid of him but what else could he do? It's not like he can just go up to Dottore and ask him out.

Okay now where the hell did that idea come from?

Dottore had to strip Diluc’s shirt and had to put his hands directly on his body to assess the damage. Oh my god.
