. ✩°。Another Night for a Curse ✺ ☽⋆。°✩... Pt.2…
Leaning back on his reclining chair Sojourner would attempt to relax with some television. As usual of his nightly routine he'd be in his chambers dozing off to whatever junk was on TV before properly making his way to bed for the night.
But tonight was different, something just felt off . The night was quiet, too quiet…
While his family wasn't too incredibly active at this hour the fact he hadn't heard from anyone in a few hours had him at unease.
As much as he tossed and turned and flipped through the channels his mood hadn't quite change until a notification from his communication device broke the silence. He levitated his device over, checking the notification, thinking it would be some sort of mundane message from son or one of his grandsons only to receive quite the opposite.
Sabre had sent out an emergency message out to the group regarding some sort of incident at the research lab, the details were rather vague but the sentiment was urgent. Already expecting something to be going on Sojourner leaped out his chair being the first to reply back to Sabre.
Sojourner: Heard loud and clear, I'm in route to you. What's going on?
Sabre: ... Is grandfather Spectre available by chance? I feel like he'd be best at handling this particular situation
Sojourner: Nope. He's tucked in for the night an you got me for the night shift. Whatever's going on I'm sure I'm be more than capable to handle it
Sabre: Right…
Sojourner: So what's the situation? What am I walking into?
Sabre: …
Sojourner would stare at the screen anticipating a response, yet it would pop up with an indicator that Sabre was typing only for it to disappear and reappear. Expecting at some point to receive a wall of text only to get nothing but silence, almost as if Sabre wasn't sure what to type.
It didn't much matter anyways, Sojourner had made quick work in getting to the research lab. Before making his way inside he received a message back from Sabre.
Sabre: No imminent threat, so no need to be on guard… just… come in with an open mind…
Sojourner would raise a brow at the message but at least he wasn't coming in to a worse case scenario. He'd still open the door cautiously as he steps inside the lab.
His eyes widened at the sheer distress of the room , things tossed around, damaged done to nearby equipment and furniture, deep scratches on the walls, the scene would immediately make the echidna on edge regardless of his grandson's words.
Before he could even call out to him Sabre had approached Sojourner, one arm wrapped in bandages as the other held his injury in pain. The sight would make Sojourner's eyes widen but Sabre would raise his non injured hand dismissively.
"Hey grandfather… no need to worry I got this under control… I'll.. be fine." Sabre said with little energy. Out of all people to come to his aid, he'd really hoped that it wouldn't be his grandfather Sojourner, especially for such a delicate situation at hand. Making things even more complicated was considering who it was affecting.
"Sabre what the hell is going on?! What happened here? And what the hell happened to you??!" Sojourner started demanding for answers, his eyes would scan Sabre up and down then traveled the rest of the room, taking in the scene.
It wouldn't take long for his loud voice to attract something to come forth from a dark corner of the room, immediately grabbing Sojourner's attention.
"AND WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!!'' He'd shout pointing at the purple beast inching closer to them.
Sojourner would take a step back before noticing Sabre's oddly calm demeanor towards this beast, he didn't seem threatened by it, if anything he rolled his eyes at his grandfather, a tired expression on his face.
"That's…. your son…" Sabre responded gesturing at the purple beast behind him.
"My WHAT??!" Sojourner would raise his eyebrows in further bewilderment.
"Would you please stop shouting! It's stresses him out…" Snapped back Sabre, looking back at the beast reassuringly "It's alright… He's just being dramatic, you know how he is sometimes…"
Sojourner while still taken aback would comply an shut his mouth for a second. Taking a closer look at the creature it had began to pace nervously behind Sabre, its behavior so odd for a wild animal.
Yet the more Sojourner looked at him, his long purple fur, the facial hair, the white crest on his chest, those piercing blue eyes reminiscent of his ex-wife, that was his son alright.
"Holy shit… Thunderhawk….what happened…" Sojourner spoke softly in disbelief as he got closer to his monstrous son. The large purple werewolf-like creature would stop his pacing and sit close to Sabre, he'd lower his ears giving his father a soft expression in return.
"I'm not entirely sure what happened… He told me earlier he'd had some sort of project to work on tonight, when I noticed the lab still in use so late into the night… I came to investigate and found him like this…" Sabre explained.
"And… he bit you?" Sojourner shoots Sabre's bandaged arm a look, bloodstains still fresh. Although he didn't have to wait for his grandson to answer as Thunderhawk would immediately flatten his ears at the mention, a loud whine could be heard coming from him as he gave Sabre the sad eyes of a guilty puppy.
"It was an accident, I startled him and he reacted protectively. He didn't mean it…clearly… but it wasn't anything too deep or major, it'll be alright.." Even thought Sabre spoke reassuringly it was hard for Thunderhawk to still not feel bad about it.
Usually Sojourner would make a comment poking fun at his son but considering he didn't want to hear any more of his loud whines he held off, besides his boy already had one hell of a rough day.
"Don't blame yourself too hard son, accidents happen. Pops pretty much wrecked his room when this sort of thing happened to him… Speaking of that whole mess, I know just the ladies to call and have a chat with about all this" Sojourner mentioned with a pointed tone, whatever sort of magic shenanigans they were planing he was having none of it.
Sabre just sighed rolling his eyes "I highly doubt that they are behind this. I'm sure Morgan and Arcana have better things to do than to bother us of all things. If there's anyone to blame it would be that bird… It definitely lives to make us miserable…"
"That is… very true I suppose…" Responded Sojourner crossing his arms. "So what you suggest we do now?"
Sabre let out an exhausted sigh "Honestly, sleep on it for now? It's late, my arm needs some aid and I'm sure Thunderhawk would appreciate some rest, I imagine he's had quite the hectic night already…"
Sojourner thinks for a moment, looking between the two of them and the surrounding mess, it would probably be best to investigate in the morning with a fresh set of eyes.
"Alright… That sounds like a good plan, get the rest in on what's happened too and have more eyes to get to the bottom of this… But Thunderhawk is sleeping strictly in his quarters or we'll be fighting having purple fur on everything with that mane of his, sweet chaos."
Thunderhawk would give Sojourner a small growl showing his teeth in response.
"What? Don't act like you don't leave those lavender locks of yours everywhere." Sojourner mentions with a sly smirk.
Eventually they would make their way to retreat for the night, Saber would be begrudgingly escorted by Thunderhawk to his room, his lingering guilt still made him quite protective of him and there was no arguing with a large beast, regardless of how fluffy it was.
Sojourner would then make sure Thunderhawk found his way to his quarters, reassuring him that they would look over things for him and find a resolve for his current predicament.
As for Sojourner he made detailed notes of the incident, forwarding the message to the others to keep them informed of what was going on and get a plan of action going sooner than later.
The more that the night progressed Sojourner couldn't help but think back to Sabre's injury. While he had been reassured that he would be fine it was still a pretty sizable bite mark. Even with Sabre being medical savvy, the mystery of Thunderhawk's transformation was factor to account for, if a spell didn't cause this what could? And what effect could that have on others unknowingly…
As the hours pass Sojourner is left wondering if he should probably check in on Sabre and see if he's doing alright or if he should just let him be and rest.
▸ Check in on him
▸ He'll be aight…
