Okay so I wrote this last weekend, before the last episode aired and it took me a while to get it into shape because real life stuff takes precedence..and yeah...I’m still not sure about this instalment in the “Daisuke and Suzue when they were young” but here it is...
When September Ends
“Why do I have to go?” he asked resentfully.
His mood had already been low when he’d seen that his grandmother had ordered a traditional Japanese breakfast, natto included.
“Because you are in effect head of the main family and people will expect us to be there for the memorial tribute. As future heir, it is important that you understand your duties towards the Kambe group and its employees,” his grandmother answered calmly.
He looked at Suzue who was quietly eating her breakfast. He knew that she disliked natto just as much as he did.
“Are you going?”
The moment he said it, he knew it was absolutely the wrong thing to say. She actually halted in the act of eating, the rice on her chopsticks precariously balanced. He was just about to apologise for his thoughtlessness (apologising did not come easy to him but knowing he had hurt her was even worse), but Suzue spoke first.
“Of course I will be there.”
She didn’t say anything else. She also seemed to ignore him from then on.
All the way to the Kambe corporate headquarters, where the ceremony was to be held, he tried to think of ways to get her to engage with him. Tongue-tied and not knowing how to make things better (or at least the way they were before he opened his stupid mouth this morning), he slowly came to resent Suzue’s aloof attitude. (At sixteen, he still had ways to go to understand all the many feelings this girl stirred in him.)
How dare she act so cold towards him, he thought as they got out of the car. How dare she make him feel this bad about what he said this morning. How dare she make it so hard to apologise because he would have but she hadn’t let him because she hadn’t even looked at him since breakfast. (On and on these thoughts went in his head as he was forced to interact with the many people who were there for the ceremony.)
“Yeah, that’s the head engineer’s daughter. The Kambes have adopted her,” someone whispered behind him.
“There are worse things than being adopted into one of the richest families in the world,” someone whispered back, for which they got immediately scolded.
“Hush you. I don’t think all the money in the world could make up for losing your parent in such a horrible way,” the first voice whispered back.
Daisuke tuned them out, focusing his attention on Suzue. She sat alone amongst the other family members of the employees who had died alongside her father in the laboratory accident one year ago.
All the resentment that had been building up in him evaporated. And he remembered that feeling he had the first time he’d met her - of knowing what it’s like to be alone.
All throughout the ceremony he watched her. He watched her pale, solemn face and saw not one single tear roll down her face. And he remembered too that he had not cried for his parents after their funeral.
—
He tried to stay out of sight, keeping his distance, ready to duck behind a gravestone if needed.
He felt a bit silly, of course, but he hadn’t been invited and he didn’t want Suzue to be angry at him. (Since his parents deaths, there were very few people whose opinion mattered to him. At sixteen, he did not really understand why he cared that Suzue was not speaking to him. What he did know was it made him feel awful and he wanted the awful feeling to go away.)
She’d stopped in front of gravestone, and even from his distance, he could clearly read her father and mother’s name on it.
When he thought it was safe, he moved closer, crouching behind a tall stone. He knew he was intruding (knew too that if it had been him visiting his parents’ graves, he would have absolutely hated being followed). But somehow, he felt it was vital that he was here. (It would take him a long time to understand why he’d felt that way on that day.)
He realised that Suzue was speaking to her parents.
“They are very kind to me. I’m very lucky that…that they took me in. The chairwoman…she wants me to call her grandmother, you know? She’s not as scary as I thought she would be…but sometimes…oh and Master Daisuke, he’s…he’s…”
His heart began to beat a little faster. He strained to hear very single word.
She laughed, “He’s a boy, you know?”
He scowled at that, almost stepping out from his hiding place.
“Sometimes…sometimes… I think he’s just very sad…he plays the piano, just like you did, Mama. I like it when he plays. But I’m not supposed to let him know that I’m listening…the servants say he doesn’t like it when people listen…I wish…I wish I could play the piano…I wish you could have taught me, Mama.”
He hadn’t know that she’d heard him play. He did it very rarely since his parents’ deaths and always making sure no one else was around.
“I miss you, Mama, Papa. I wish you were still here…” Suzue’s voice broke and suddenly he could not bear it.
She started when he handed her his handkerchief.
“What…what are you doing here?” she asked, wiping at the tears running down her cheek. She ignored the cloth in his hand.
This made him angry because…(well, at sixteen his emotions were still often raw and volatile and it was frankly baffling to him how he could go from feeling like he absolutely needed to take care of Suzue to wanting to stomp away from her in a strop. Of course, adult Daisuke would often think of that young boy and wonder how Suzue hadn’t simply punched him a few times when he’d been at his absolutely worst.)
“Never mind,” he replied gruffly and walked away. He didn’t turn to look if she was following him (but was disappointed when he reached his waiting car to see that she hadn’t.)
—
He was roaming the mansion, unable to sleep. Eventually, he was drawn to the music room, a place rarely visited anymore during the day time. The piano was always dust free and tuned.
He played the bits of pieces he knew from memory, different composers blending into each other as his muscle memory took over and his mind was still, simply floating in the notes.
He always forgot how much he missed this, how happily he had sat here as a child, learning to play the instrument, practicing his favourite pieces (because they were his mother’s and his father’s favourite pieces.) How easily he had forgotten the warmth and security he had felt, in the embrace of these familiar melodies (in the loving presence of his parents.)
He played until his hands and arms felt tired. As the last note rang out, vibrating in the air, he felt wrung out, emptied of everything that he’d kept inside so tightly all of the time (he often pretended that he wasn’t keeping anything inside).
“You play beautifully,” a quiet voice said from the shadows.
He almost laughed, thinking it was only fair that she’d spy on him, after what he’d done earlier. But he was exhausted, all he could do was grunt.
Tensing, she said, “Well…goodnight then, Master Daisuke,” turning to leave.
Something almost like panic gripped him then (he didn’t understand why, only that he needed to act.)
“I’m…I’m sorry,” he blurted out.
“What for?”
Everything, nothing. He didn’t know how to explain.
“It’s hard…isn’t it? Being alone?” (He wondered if he was asking the question to himself.)
She looked at him for a long time (all day he had wanted her to look at him and now he was afraid of what she’d see.)
Then something softened about her. “It is hard…I miss them every day…but…but I don’t think I am alone.”
(At sixteen he did not know what to say to that. Neither at seventeen, eighteen, nineteen…indeed, not until very much later did he truly understand what she had meant that night.)
And because he he didn’t know, he said the only thing he felt safe to say. “Goodnight, Suzue.”
“Goodnight, Daisuke.”
(He would find himself playing the piano more often from then on, but still only at night when he knew there would be no audience…or at least only one person, whose presence he never minded.)

Daisuke and Suzue’s Mutual Trust - A Mini Analysis
***(Edited version with additional information re; Daisuke’s parents and Haru)***
Hey gang, so I had this nagging thought to write this awhile back and it just escalated after I watched Episode 10. So now my brain won’t leave me alone until I’ve shared this with you.
I would again, like to reiterate that only FOUR TIMES in the entire 10 episodes of FKBU so far, has Daisuke shown a soft, genuine smile. This man has been incredibly traumatised since childhood. He is apathetic, frustrated and emotionless and essentially an asshole at best. He has lost all reason to smile. The post traumatic stress sits very heavily on him.
Considering how he grew up as a happy kid, it was absolutely heartbreaking when that happiness was taken from him. So to see Daisuke show any type of soften emotion was incredibly profound. It shows a vulnerable side to him, because that side has been severely repressed.
I don’t want to go all social workey on everyone here but I just want to explain something. In those who have experienced significant trauma, they no longer view the world as a safe place. So Daisuke’s suppressed emotions were the only way he saw fit to survive in a ‘hostile world.’ When positive emotions are expressed, it makes the trauma survivor vulnerable. How? Because in Daisuke’s case, as a child, positive emotions were associated with feeling unsafe. He grew up happily along side his parents, only to witness his father murder his mother.
So any time a trauma survivor wants to show positive emotions (be it consciously or subconsciously), they must feel safe, because it makes them vulnerable.
The only four times Daisuke showed any sort of soft, genuine, smile-like emotion were:
When he came home. Given his unstable relationship with Grandma, I can make an educated guess that returning home was not for her or mostly for her. And we are not going to include the butler because that relationship was more professional.
Directly after this scene, Daisuke proceeded to cook for Suzue (and only her). In other words, I can take a guess that he was happy to finally return home to placate Suzue’s worries and be mostly in her company.
When he made food for Suzue. This man was so proud of himself istg … just look at him .. but y’know, we have seen him with a proud smug face before, but this one was a soft and genuine one.
When he reassured Suzue that he will make it home alive.
When he carried Suzue in the OP
So what am I trying to say?
They are all related to Suzue in some way or another.
Suzue made Daisuke feel safe enough to express vulnerable emotions (in this case, positive ones). Throughout the anime, the dynamics between Suzue and Daisuke were solely based on trust. Daisuke trusted Suzue with his life. He knew she will always be there for him no matter what.
In that above scene where Daisuke reassured Suzue he will return home, Suzue, despite knowing the dangers, trusted him to follow through and keep himself alive. There was a hidden promise in the words he used and the way he said it.
Can I also add something too?
Compare the above two scenes to the two below
What do you see?
Daisuke does NOT like being touched.
Sure, Daisuke was visibly injured in the scenes with Haru, but he was not injured enough that he could no longer fight or walk on his own. What this meant was that Daisuke did not shove Suzue away or remove his hand from hers because he was not physically injured. It meant he has an immense level of trust in her. Daisuke may have initially been uncomfortable and unsure with Suzue’s actions, but he eventually allowed her to remain on him.
(Edit:) I’d like to explain the above part a little better as I realised it can get a bit confusing. Some of you may think that Daisuke pushed Haru away because he was physically weak and injured and therefore vulnerable. Which means you may also think that he did not push Suzue away or remove his hand from hers because he was not physically weak/injured at the time.
This was not the case. Daisuke simply did not like being touched because of his trauma. How did I speculate this? Daisuke was able to fight pretty well, despite being injured, so in essence, if he truly did push Haru away because of his injuries, he should not be able to fight or function for the sake of being physically vulnerable. That would be more of a probable explanation. But instead, Daisuke was still strong enough to walk and push on, which meant the likely explanation to refusing physical assistance was: Daisuke’s trauma
Remember this. Trauma survivors do not often like being touched, particularly when they have witnessed/experienced violence as a child. They view the world as an unsafe place.
(Edit:) So in other words, it was not because of his injuries or physical vulnerable state that made Daisuke push Haru away, it was because he did not like being touched by someone who has not earned that high level of trust. If Suzue was in Haru’s place on that boat scene, Daisuke most likely would have allowed her to assist him because she has earned that high level of trust.
This does not mean Daisuke does not trust Haru. As we saw in Episode 10, Daisuke grew to respect and trust Haru. But not at the level where he was comfortable with being physically touched. That’s literally a whole new level. (And no, a bump into the ass or brush on the shoulder does not count as proper physical touch).
When you have been betrayed as a child, and you view the world as an awful place, the idea of ‘trust’ does not exist. You won’t understand what that means because you will think there is no point in trusting people - they will just betray you. It’s more significant when this breach of trust occurred as a child.
So rebuilding trust for trauma survivors take a very, very long time. They have to learn to trust all over again, and even then, they may not trust just anyone. In Daisuke’s case, he ticked all the above. To have earned that level of respect where a traumatised Daisuke would trust someone with his life, Suzue must be one incredible woman. She must be so damn important to him, even though it may not be obvious all the time.
(Edit:) I’d also like to briefly add something here. There may be other significant reason for the bridal carry in the OP. It may indicate that Daisuke is indeed comfortable enough to have Suzue that (physically) close to him.
Seeing how I have seen quite a lot of anime where there are significant trauma involved as the storyline, I can definitely see the same patterns emerging with FKBU re; Daisuke’s story.
So I would like to end it on something.
In the above scene, Daisuke’s indirect way of showing he cared for Suzue was not out of the ordinary for someone who has been traumatised. There may not be a direct apology (or maybe there was behind the scenes??) we could see, but trauma greatly suppresses proper emotional development (and particularly when it happened to him as a growing child).
So Daisuke may not fully understand the right way to make amends or how to resolve the situation. He may not even think what he did was wrong, so his way of trying to amend things (whether with an apology intended or without), was to make food for Suzue.
Needless to say that Suzue was very forgiving and so extremely patient with him. Patience, support and empathy are key to supporting trauma survivors. Fuck. The more I analyse this, the more I realise how deeply profound Daizue’s relationship is ❤️
EDIT:
Daisuke’s Parents and Haru
Someone asked me a very interesting question about Daisuke’s trauma, his father and the photo frame of his parents on his bedside table.
Without delving too much into the complexity of trauma, the likely plausible explanation would be that Daisuke still has some form of attachment and love for his father. Trauma survivors can still love the person who betrayed them, despite holding a grudge towards them at the same time. It is not an unusual/uncommon thing. This would be a lot more significant for those who experienced childhood trauma. So to me, it sounded like Daisuke loved and got along well with both his parents.
The picture on his bedside table may be a representation of what he has lost - a happy childhood, so he still kept it there, not necessarily as a reminder, but as a form of subconscious attachment he has for his parents.
Haru vs Daisuke
The same person also queried about the differing traumas between these two. Whilst it is never an appropriate thing to compare traumas, I’m happy to explain this for the sake of understanding.
Haru’s trauma occurred during a one off incident that ended up spiralling into some form of post traumatic stress. Whilst we do not know about Haru’s past, based on his personality and some tiny hints along the way, Haru most likely grew up in a relatively normal family. So Haru was able to bounce back and overcome his trauma relatively well (as we saw in Episode 10, he finally fired a gun!).
Daisuke, however, is a different story. Daisuke’s trauma is extremely complex because of the age he experienced it, and the type as well. Trauma involving close families that end up in violence and murder is one of the biggest betrayals of trust, particularly for a child.
As I stated earlier, Daisuke no longer viewed the world as a safe place. His trauma was deeply ingrained and it shaped his emotional development and his interactions with others. If you look at Grandma and both Daisuke’s parents, you can see that they were relatively ‘normal’ in terms of emotional development. That is, you can see that they showed more varied emotions and their interactions with others were not … weird.
But if you compare them with adult Daisuke, it is very different. Immediately you can say that there is definitely something wrong with him. And I am not talking about how he grew up rich, because that is a separate thing. I am talking more about his emotional responses to people.
I’m reblogging this cause I’ve added some extra/additional details regarding Daisuke’s parents and Haru. Thanks to the person who DM’d me these questions. You know who you are 💕 I hope this clarifies some things for anyone who is reading this updated version.
P. S. I added some more details in some sections as they were a bit confusing LOL (I put “Edit” next to it)
It’s amazing how much this aligns with my own hc about Daisuke’s EQ...
I think he was a very happy but sensitive child pre-murder of his mother, and I kind of assume from what we’ve been shown so far in the show, it’s his mother who was the more emotionally nurturing parent. I do think that Daisuke had a lot of love for his father too but I’m not too sure if Shigemaru was as outwardly caring as his mother was. (Tbh, still not entirely sure what Shigemaru’s motivations are in all of this.)
And yeah, he definitely comes across as someone who has not overcome his trauma over what happened to his parents. He’s not simply being a rich asshole (although he can be one)...he just doesn’t have the emotional vocabulary to deal with people in a “normal” way. Despite all his wealth, he did not get the support he needed to work through it in a healthy way. Haru, as you said, probably had a better family background and a network of friends who supported him even when he left First Division because of his own trauma.
I’m not sure how I feel about the grandmother’s apparent blind loyalty towards her son, over protecting and nurturing her grandson, who as a child, had needed her to be there for him in a better way. But yeah, there’s certainly a lot of stuff happening there that makes me wonder what grandma’s deal is. (Am kind of wondering if Shigemaru is even Daisuke’s biological father? Maybe...and this is a half-crack theory....he’s Suzue’s biological father, which makes her an actual blood-related Kambe and hence why he didn’t kill her at the mansion.)
One of the reasons I think why Daisuke seems comfortable around Suzue is because in ways she must remind him of his mother (not to be all Freudian about this). And I want to believe that Daisuke realises that Suzue’s motivation to be in his life and to assist him in whatever way she can, comes from an unselfish “I simply care about you because I think you are a worthy human being” place. And he tries to reciprocate in ways that he is capable of, given his trauma.
Daisuke & Suzue’s Relationship - A Consolidation Post
Hey gang, so given that we have 2 episodes left and absolutely zero idea as to what Daizue’s relationship is, I have decided to put together a spectrum of information. A lot of the stuff I am posting here have already been speculated to some degree, but it is nice to have it all in one big post where you can see what’s been gathered so far.
When I write about speculations, I always base everything on canonical evidence. Of course, there will be elements of personal bias and opinions intermeshed within, but I will try and separate facts from opinions as much as possible so that you can also draw your own conclusions.
For the purpose of this post, I will exclude all novel content, considering the anime is vastly different from the novel. I will start with the OP and work my way towards Episode 9. Originally I was going to wait until Episode 10 to complete this post, but I decided that it probably wouldn’t matter, considering Daizue’s relationship may not be revealed until Episode 11 and they most likely would be focusing on the battle with Shigemaru in Episode 10 rather than delve any deeper into Daizue’s relationship.
Tbh, I have been confused from the get go how people thought they were siblings? Granted, I started watching when episode 4 was already out but just watching the OP - unless the creators are being super kinky/gross - that bridal style carry scene really does not say they’re sibling but rather something else.
I’m still quite concerned as to how they are going to finish the story. Considering the OP has so many foreshadowing, particularly in relation to Suzue, I am yet to see any of that in the episodes so far. Clearly they are still going to be fighting Shigemaru in Episode 11…how on earth are they going to wrap it up and answer all those OP questions? 😬😬
I just really hope they don’t kill her off or make her in league with Shigemaru...and not just from a shipping POV. Just really tired of having nice female characters being used that way in stories.
Anyway, I do have a couple of crack theories about some of the Suzue (or what is speculated to be her) shots in the OP:
1. Daisuke actually is a James Bond fanboy and fantasises himself in that role (that’s why he went to train in the UK, natch) and the sexy shots of Suzue are just him fantasising himself in a Jame Bond movie opening title sequence with his (one and only) Bond girl lol (and yes, I do have a silly drabble planned based on this crack theory)
2. We’re simply getting a glimpse of what they get up to in their private time...if you know what I mean...
like this one:
That’s just them playing “My car broke down and I need a mechanic.”
Suzue: “Why would a mechanic be wearing lingerie?”
Daisuke: “I don’t know...because the overalls got dirty and it was hot and she just got out of the shower?”
Suzue *smirking*: And put on thigh-high stockings?
In anticipation of the next episode, am posting another Suzue/Daisuke drabble. (The show better not do Suzue a dirty and reveal her to be a in cahoots with the baddies, kind of tired of that trope lol).
Also, hope Suzue doesn’t come off as too Mary Sue in this, even though I did kind of deliberately write her this way because it’s mostly in Daisuke’s POV…being the fifteen year old he is, he doesn’t really get all the feelings he’s feeling hehehe…

Everywhere You Go
He’d been moodily staring out of the window of the car, ignoring the girl sat next to him.
Since they attended different private schools and had different schedules, it wasn’t usual that they rode home together. Today had been one of those rare exceptions.
She’d been standing by the gates of her school, talking to other students when the car had arrived. Daisuke had watched her smile and converse animatedly with her schoolmates, obvious by the way the others responded to her that she was well-liked. She’d greeted him with the same warmth when she entered the car but all he managed was a curt nod.
THIS ONE IS SO ADORKABLE! THIS ONE DESERVES SO MANY MORE LIKES AND LOVES ❤️❤️❤️
I just absolutely love the little subtle hints and how Daisuke is just frantically trying to make sense of his feelings whilst forcibly denying them at the same time. omfg. This is so pure and so wonderfully written! We really need more mini ficlets like this ! I just love it so much!
😂😂😂 Like, he’s pulling himself back and forth and denying his feelings for Suzue whereas he’s also thinking ab her all this time and how amazing she is. Daisuke could you pls make up your mind just for once bc sir you’re not making the situation any less difficult for yourselves lmao!
It was nice that he reassured her during their entire kidnapping and how mindful he was for explaining her HEUSC’s functions bc it helped in calming her down a whole lots.
I want to see more of Daisuke’s “puberty thoughs” so I can laugh my ass off but I’m also looking forward to Shigemaru explaining to Daisuke how HEUSC can be used and maybe some glimpses of Sayuri’s and Suzue’s interactions bc that would be sweet. 💗 I loved the fanfic, pls keep up the great work!
Suzue drinking bubble tea in a high–stress situation...relatable af.
That face in butt scene is going to launch a thousand fanfics, isn‘t it?
Hehehehehehe Daisuke telling Suzue he’s coming back alive....to give her some lovins obviously hahahahaha yeah that’s going to make me write a thousand fanfics...

In the six months that she had come to live at the mansion, nothing much had changed. He’d anticipated greater upheaval. Yet, apart from a few relatives grumbling about the effect of the adoption on their inheritance, Suzue had blended into their daily lives like she’d always been a part of it.
With her quiet, polite manner the staff had taken to her immediately and his grandmother often remarked what a nice young woman she was. Suzue, modest and gracious, always showed her appreciation for being taken into the family.
She was also unfailingly polite to him, even on the occasions when he’d been deliberately rude. She never bothered him unless needed, kept to herself, and very rarely demanded interaction from him.
He told himself that was exactly how he wanted it, he had no use for naive young girls insinuating themselves into his life. Yet, (and even at fifteen he understood this perversion), he often wished she would bother him, that she would come to him and talk to him and laugh with him like she did with the staff (he’d sometimes overhear conversations and felt a sense of disconnect, like he was the stranger in the house, and Suzue, with her soft voice and easy smiles, conversing with the staff like it was nothing, was the real lady of the house).
Yet, if he was being honest (but only in the secrecy of his young heart), the tomb-like mansion felt a little less lonely since she’d moved in, even if he couldn’t - wouldn’t - admit that to anyone.
He’d been brooding so hard that it took him a moment to realise that Suzue was addressing him.
“I think we’re being kidnapped.”
Now alert, he took stock of the situation. The privilege of being in one of the wealthiest families in the world was directly proportional to the dangers that they faced. At least, this had been drilled into him since he was old enough to understand that being a Kambe made him a prime target for people with nefarious purposes.
The car had stopped at a quiet intersection, with two people having approached it. One was trying to get the driver out, the other was standing right beside the back door on Suzue’s side.
“What do we do?” she asked, the alarm clear in her voice.
“Maybe it’s just a drill,” he murmured, realising now how odd it was that they’d been made to go home in the same car.
Smart girl that she was, she seemed to grasp his meaning. “But what if it’s real?”
“Do as they say, don’t fight, don’t run away. We need to stay alive until someone comes to get us.” He said this as calmly as he could, remembering his training. The worst thing he could do was panic. Even if he really did feel like doing so.
“But how…” Suzue’s question was cut off when the door beside her opened.
“Just stay calm.” He looked at her, willing her to understand how important this was.
Even as he could see the fear in her eyes as the man pulled her out of the vehicle, he could feel her resolve and knew that he could trust her to do exactly what needed to be done.
—
“So…there is a tracking device in the earrings your grandmother gave me,” she said, many hours later.
With a blanket draped over shoulders, having been checked over by paramedics - “Slightly dehydrated but otherwise fine” - she looked incredibly young and vulnerable.
However, having witnessed how levelheaded she could be when under duress, he knew that her pretty, gentle form hid a backbone of steel.
“It’s more than just a tracking device,” he huffed, inexplicably miffed because she had been so levelheaded during this actually very real kidnapping. (At fifteen, he was too young to fully understand why he was feeling this way. Besides, even if he had understood, he very likely would have been disgusted with himself for wanting a girl - this girl - to think him a hero.)
“Oh?” She clearly looked intrigued now, which made him feel a lot better.
(In the years to come he would reflect upon this night and laugh at how obvious it must have been to anyone else how much he’d simply wanted to impress her.)
He smiled at her bright interested face. “HEUSC can do all sorts of things.”
I wonder at what age suzue was taken in the kambe family, surely we should’ve seen her around in one of daisuke’s flashbacks or photos, I’m assuming she was brought in after daisuke’s parents died, so she would’ve only had daisuke, his grandma and his butler to engage with, now for the the reason they brought her in I wonder, maybe they just wanted a companion for daisuke? Well for whatever reason I’m sure something happened between them that made suzue form a really strong affection for daisuke
Yes, probably around puberty or so which would then explain why Suzue doesn't feel any brotherly affection towards Daisuke, because they didn't grow up together and Suzue appeared in his life later on.
I assume that grandma was still in the possession of HEUSC's commands and maybe she tried to further develop him in order to make Daisuke's life easier after he just lost his parents. However, she was not capable of always watching over him since, you saw what kind of character Daisuke was when he was little, he sneaked away from home and enjoyed having things his way.
This is quite troublesome, selfish and undisciplined. So grandma probably thought "Maybe he could use a friend? Someone who's the same age and who could understand him better?"
That's when Suzue came into the game. I can just imagine how amazed she must have been upon looking at the mansion for the first time. She was also probably v shy and careful until she got used to her surroundings.
I guess that Daisuke knew what's going on and therefore avoided Suzue in rebellion to his grandma. Suzue felt uncomfortable and although she followed Daisuke everywhere and tried to be of some help, he told her not to follow him bc he claimed that he was perfectly capable of looking after himself, maybe he even got angry with her. And Suzue, feeling so awkward and awful that she didn't know what to do or why she was even brought into this mansion, started crying and that's the moment he felt bad for her and maybe hugged her. After this moment Daisuke let her tag along with him and Suzue loved it.
He already confided in her about his family and what had happened that night. He told her his plan; that he's going to become a homicide detective and solve his mother's case bc he never rly trusted the authorities in the first place, and Suzue promised that she'll support him in whatever he needed.
And I can also imagine them texting each other when Daisuke was schooling himself overseas. Suzue as well; as he was studying to become a detective she was studying mechanical engineering to help him solve cases in other, more efficient ways.
However, she needed to keep up her polite demeanor since granda specifically brought her into this family to look after the young heir, and it remained at that. This doesn't mean that Daisuke didn't initiate some small acts of kindness as well like buying her clothes or bringing her food since he's the type to express things physically (and financially). Although he didn't show it properly, Daisuke still enjoyed Suzue's company and she was the only person he could truly rely on.
After Daisuke returned home, he seemed more cold and distant. He was too invested in this dark world of criminology and Suzue felt left out. But in ep 4 Daisuke proved that he still cares and that he didn't want to let her down. And Suzue missed him so much during his time overseas.
Now imagine, after 4 or 5 years of hard work Daisuke returns to Japan, with all of his western style clothes, high-tech equipment and Arabic language, 👀 comes at the doors of the mansion and Suzue sees him for the first time in a long time. The girl WENT. INSANE. 😍 She grew super clingy and I guess that Daisuke was lowkey freaked out hahha!
That's when grandma noticed her excessive worry and how much she cared when he disappeared without HEUSC for just 1 day. Grandma be expecting grandchildren. 👀
Lmao anyways, can't wait to see how things are going to unfold and whether Daisuke will finally beat up his old man for the things he's done to their family.
I’ve recently stumbled upon Fugou Keiji Balance:Unlimited on youtube and...I don’t know if I want to marry Suzue Kambe or be Suzue Kambe. And because I am weak and can’t resist, my heart ships her with Daisuke Kambe....yes, yes, yes, I know they’re apparently relatives...but until explicitly proven otherwise I take their being relatives as being “relatives”...(what is the proper ship name though?)
And because I really felt like writing some drabbles for my new ship...here’s me imagining the first time they met:
The First Time (I Ever Saw Your Face)
She was brought into the family when he was fifteen and she just thirteen.
She shyly stood next to his grandmother, as the older woman introduced her.
“This is Suzue. You know of the accident that happened at the weapons laboratory a month ago. Her father was one of the employees who died.”
“What about her mother? Or other relatives?” Daisuke asked, realising how harsh he sounded but unable to keep it out of his voice.
His grandmother gave him one of her censorious looks but before she could say anything, the girl spoke up.
“My mother died when I was a young, and it was just my father and I ever since. Now there is no one else.” She said this with quiet dignity yet he could hear the loneliness behind the words.
It was a loneliness he well understood. But being fifteen and having lived a life very much sheltered from expressing emotions healthily, he did not know how to react.
“Lucky you then, you now get to be a Kambe,” he told her, unable to keep the sneer out of his voice. He didn’t know why he felt like rattling the girl’s composure.
All he knew was that seeing her there, so demure and deferential next to his grandmother, made him feel something. Something that he very much did not like.
She looked at him then with her big, vulnerable eyes, and smiled. At fifteen, puberty had hit him enough that even despite his own misgivings about the whole situation and having a stranger come into the family, he could admit that she was rather pretty.
“I hope we can be friends, Master Daisuke,” she said, her voice soft and hopeful.
A shiver of pleasure went down Daisuke’s spine, something he didn’t fully understand then as a teenager. All his life, people had respectfully called him by that title that he’d become quite immune to it.
It was only as an adult that he would fully come to understand what it made him feel to hear Suzue call him “master”.
