In Tamworth, we know what we like and we like to keep our hands busy making what we like.  Local man, Eric Dube, makes hard cider because itâs his drink of choice and because the process of making his own drink satisfies him. With his own handmade apple grinder and press, Dube is recreating a time old New England tradition â there are grandfather stories of the cider mills that once populated Tamworth in the early 20th century, but there is little to be said for it happening in town today. That is where Dube Cider comes in.
Using apples found throughout town â from Hollow Hill to Wonalancet to his own backyard â Dube believes that what makes his cider different (and better!) is that he isnât a purist about his apples; his cider contains whatever strain of apples falls into his path. With his operations set up in a rented garage not far from the village, Eric Dube has already doubled his production from last year; he hopes to continue to perfect his process through trial and error and some creativity during his second season.
âI built the press as my college senior project,â said Dube, âAnd this is my second grinder, having improved some faults the first had last season.â
Everything at Dube Cider is man powered â Eric and his small team pick the apples, grind the apples, press the apples and carefully ferment the cider all themselves, no machinery necessary. Itâs a slow process, but the jokes and conversations make the time go quickly. And the end result is worth every minute.
âThere is nothing smoother than cider on summerâs night,â said Dube.
