What were your thoughts on the footage revealed. Personally, i get not much has been revealed yet, but at the same time, I am not impressed. Im glad we are getting another human elemental, but was also hoping for something more, and not just another Ice queen but evil now (and if this is the Mystery Family member, then they are literally just ripping off Once Upon a Time now), the Norse Mythology influence from the first piece of concept art seems to be gone, and don't even get me started on Kristoff being an emotional punching bag again like he was in the second film, and Olaf getting a love interest which is just a dumb idea. That said, I do like how they are seemingly trying to tie back things to the first film with the Frozen Heart song and the sisters being back together again seemingly, and the animation looks absolutely beautiful (also, loved see Elsa be protective of Anna and not be annoyed that she is that like she was in the second film). But thats what I think. What about?
Thank you for your ask! Before I answer I just want to say that I do have a breakdown post of the news at D23, the trailer and more posts coming very soon! I do apologise if it's late, I've just been busy with my personal life.
Now about your ask; I understand your frustration and confusion but let me clear that up. There's nothing to be angry or upset about because let's not forget things can still be changed as there's still a good few months left or more till the official trailers and promotion begin.
I initially felt a little confused but the more times I watched it, the more I understood it. I got what they were trying to do with it. They want us to be aware of a new villain who's actually a villain with powers very similar to Elsa's, so much so that she looks like Evil Elsa from the concept art. And I love that they're recycling concept art! Many fans wanted dark Elsa and it looks like we might get here but as a new character. People say she's a riff off of Ingrid, the other Snow Queen in Once Upon a Time but that's just a theory, not confirmation! First off we don't see her face, and second off based on her figure it seems like she's about Elsa and Anna's age or slightly more or if she's immortal, and lives for 100+ years than yeah she could be old enough to their mother, aunt or whatever else. But we don't know yet so let's not assume based on little to no evidence. I too would be against this being an aunt from either side or a long lost sibling and I get that the mysterious family member could be her but it also could not be. If it is it could be an ancestor or a distant aunt, not a sister of Iduna or Agnarr. But let's see because nothing is confirmed. In fact the family member was a very early leak that could have had the concept dropped since then!
The first concept art is literally a concept art as is the new concept art and the first one was said to be both far and near from the final version of the film. Norse Mythology has always been in Frozen and with a few hints in D23, which I'll breakdown in my upcoming post, Norse mythology is still going to be included in Frozen 3. The whole magical lore is inspired by Norse mythology so how could you think Norse mythology would suddenly be gone. And as you said in a comment today, the magical land seen in the clip could be Niffirealm, the land of the forest giants or any other land inspired from Norse Mythology.
You guys see one clip with Kristoff being vulnerable, we start ranting about him being sidelined. First off, in Frozen 2 his arc was perfectly valid. All he wanted was love and attention from and the right moment to propose to Anna. Nothing is wrong with romantic love for men. It's a beautiful thing and it shows how much of a decent man he is that despite being ignored by Anna, he still loves her, saved her and is willing to attend to all her needs. And as far as Frozen 3 goes, that one clip doesn't define his arc in the whole movie. We literally had a question about his parents, about his relationship with Sven, and about him being King. So I'm pretty sure he'll get a more personal arc.
Same goes for Olaf. Him finding love is a cute thing. And it suits his character because he's a little naive and so experiencing a new emotion for the first time is a journey for him. In Frozen 1 he experienced family love, in Frozen 2 he experienced knowledge and anger and loss and now he's experiencing romantic love. And it's not simply love. It's someone else who looks like him, thinks like him, knows what he's going through. A theory goes that Samantha, Olaf's new love interest is actually created by the new Ice Queen and I am all for that theory because if Elsa has made it, Samantha would be like Olaf's sister and he considers Marshmallow and the Snowgies his brothers. The Queen would use Samantha to trap Olaf and sue him as bait to get to Elsa and Anna. So it makes sense and I'm excited to see him go through all those stages of love including heartbreak, loss, pain, yearning and more.
Frozen 3 will definitely tie things between the previous two movies and build more into the world of Frozen. The new addition of a verse for the Frozen Heart song sounds interesting and more about the new villainous Ice Queen than about Elsa, as the previous verses have been about. In fact the last two lines of the new verse say we're the counterparts, the curse of a frozen heart. I don't know if it's referring to Elsa and Anna being the counterparts of a Frozen Heart or of the new villainous Ice Queen since she is a counterpart of Elsa, but also if the was the previous Fifth Spirit that makes even more sense for Elsa and Anna to be her counterpart. But I love how the frozen heart is having a new role to play in the franchise because it's a curse by her powers and her powers are from Ahtohallan but there's a whole backstory hinted at about Ahtohallan in the questions given to us on the board at 2024's D23 and the trolls had a part to play in the frozen heart, having to change Anna's memories and the trolls are the master of the night sky including the northern lights and the northern lights is where the villain came from! It's all connected guysss!!
Anna was not annoyed about Elsa protecting her or Elsa about Anna protecting her. Elsa doesn't want to risk losing Anna again and with other beings like her, they can be dangerous for her. Anna has been cherishing the last three years since with Elsa the gates opened. She doesn't want to lose Elsa again. She knows Elsa has her powers to protect but she's worried Elsa's not being too careful and what she feared came true: losing Elsa. But that loss made Anan grow stronger and do the right thing in breaking the Dam to break the curse that held the citizens of Northuldra captive for years. After realising Elsa was the Fifth Spirit (but hard to tell if she knew she was also the one too), she knew Elsa had found her purpose and that that's what she had wanted and if it meant fulfilling her purpose in Northuldra, then Anna would have to accept that. She was just glad Elsa was safe and sound and more powerful than ever before.
I understand the fears and concerns but we just do not judge anything as if they're set in stone yet. This clip shown at D23, is not a trailer of any kind. Trailers will be next year as most promotional material happens the year of release. Disney wants us to be hyped and excited for this big anticipated third installment of the franchise and yes it is working because I've never been more seated for a movie in a while. The clip shown at D23 is just a potential clip from the movie and not a trailer! By potential I mean it may or may not make it to the film as exactly as it shows because the film is still in early stages, not having finished the movie yet and scripts can change while they begin animation and voicing too. My detailed thoughts will be in a breakdown post coming soon. So please be patient til then to hear my full thoughts.
Thank you for ask, and again, please don't jump into conclusions yet!
