theta.
â     thereâs a thing thatâs catching on. itâs called âknockingâ. why donât you try it out ? â
HE LAUGHS A BIT, adjusting his seat and making himself ready to hear another one of koscheiâs âfoolproof plansâ. itâs almost as if itâs become routine: sheâd come bursting in, heâd sit there and nod, and eventually roll with it ââ who the hell cared if it went wrong ? it was about them, them having fun together. just like it always was. though sometimes it DID get to be quite repetitive, and he felt that ââ maybe it was time to sort of branch off, let them do something else that seemed quite fun. especially without getting people hurt or in trouble or anything else. he looked off into the distance for a second before she called his name â eyes focused back on her.Â
â yeah, but ââ before you start off, can i make a suggestion ? â
âknocking is LAME.â koschei says, waving a dismissive hand. âbesides, thereâs no point in us knocking on each otherâs doors anymore. youâre always welcome in my room, and vice versa. well --- almost always. our roommatesâ shitty attitudes and the stupid rules arenât relevant to my point, however.â ( forever bitter, she was, about the fact that herself and theta were stuck in foster care, where the supervisors tried to limit the amount of time they spent together because he was a boy and she was a girl. )
âyeah --- yeah, of course.â she didnât bother trying to hide her surprise ( he wouldâve seen it anyway ). theta didnât often suggest things for them to do, prank - wise; he was perfectly happy to let H E R handle the planning of their shenanigans, usually. wasnât one for making plans, her theta. âiâm all ears, theta.â

In an argument
While kissing
Last words
While half asleep
During foreplay/sex
As a goodbye
While dreaming
While drunk
When reunited with your muse

âwell, you must be too, theta, since youâre going along with this and helping me.â heâs called her insane too many times before for it to bother her anymore. koschei turns, walking about a foot in front of him.âthis is going to work, theta. it has to. our streak will be ruined if it doesnât.â she slowed to a stop, a serious look on her face. âtheta. you donât wanna back out, do you? because i canât pull this off without you.â
( she needed him, not just to help with this prank, but to be with her, through anything. he was the only person sheâd call a friend; the only person who hadnât abandoned or otherwise disappointed her in the seventeen years sheâd been alive; the only person who understood her and made her feel like she wasnât alone.Â
they were barely eight when they met, two lonely foster kids who ended up in the same group home. at that point, he was JOHN and she was CLARA, and they came from similar backgrounds â unknown parents, given their name by child protective services because they could not remember much of anything, not even what they were called. theyâd both been in several homes, foster of not, before f i n a l l y being placed in a group home in peckham. theta was already there when she came, quieter than even she was, and that had intrigued her. koschei had bothered him endlessly, until he just GAVE UP on trying to ignore her and finally â finally!!! â spoke to her. after that, the pair had become fast friends, rarely seen without each other.
now, nine years later, they were inseparable. the only time they werenât together was when they were sleeping, and that was because they werenât allowed to sleep in the same room ( the same B E D was absolutely out of the question ) by the people who ran the group home. some kids at school thought they were dating ( they were ⊠kinda ), or just fucking ( no ), and a fair amount of the other kids living in the group home did too. )
âi mean â youâd tell me if you wanted to back out. right?â she paused, searching his face for any sign that he did want to back out and just wasnât telling her. heâd seemed really excited about it earlier, even offered to carry the heavier bag of supplies, but theta changed his mind at the last minute sometimes, so she couldnât be sure if that wasnât the case.
you cried wolf, so i came running. QUESTION: am i the wolf or the savior? is my smile too sharp or just my teeth? ANSWER: come a little closer.

' I trusted you. '
( mostly ) angst starter sentences.Â
âi know â finally, after months and months ⊠you trusted me again. enough to let me be on my own, to let me out of your sight for longer than ten minutes.â she pauses, biting the inside of her cheek in thought. âyâknow, me trying to be GOOD â that wasnât an act. it was genuine. but one can only fight against their nature for so long âŠâ the master turned away, placing the knife sheâd been twirling in her hand back on the table â there wouldnât be any torturing today. this was going to be a civil conversation.âfor a while, doctor, i d i d want to be good. saving people ⊠it made me feel like i was finally doing something i could be proud of. but then, after i accidentally killed that man .. god, iâd forgotten how good being bad can feel, doctor. and i asked myself, why be good when you can have fun?â
âso i began to formulate a plan. step one was to fully gain your trust back. step two was to convince you to let me leave. step three, develop a form of mind control that can be used widespread; i started on that step b e f o r e i left. step four, find a test subject â mine was abigail â and use it on them. if the mind control is successful, continue onto step five. if not ⊠well.â she leans against the table, holding up five fingers. âstep five, move on to and use the mind control serum on others â like kate stewart, u.n.i.t.âs agents, the worldâs leaders âŠâ a smile creeps onto her face. âstep six, capture YOU. and the final step â the only one that has let to be completed â is to release the mind control serum in a gas form across the whole earth.â

I donât think people love me. I think they love versions of me I have spun for them, versions of me they have construed in their minds. The easy versions of me, the easy parts of me to love.
