Here we go again - the season of running in the cold and darkness begins!
And I'm starting from 0 AGAIN, but it doesn't even bother me anymore, I'm happily clinging onto every minute I get to spend jogging :D

Here we go again - the season of running in the cold and darkness begins!

The last day of summer - a perfect girls' trip with the best mom in the world 😎
I've come to the forest to run uphill, wearing lipstick
Once again, I have to realise I don't do well with running in summer.
I've been trying to improve my distances after starting again following a relatively long break - but I haven't been able to surpass the 5k mark for months. There are various reasons for that, but the bottom line is the same, I'm on a plateau. So I'm trying my best to at least maintain this (rather disappoiting) level instead of letting myself sink deeper.
I've just finished a 5k in the rain (I find it easier to run in rain than in heat). I was very slow, but at least I did it. And without music nonetheless! ;)
Had a great day as a crew member at a refreshment station for Salomon Ultra-Trail Hungary 2025 😎☀️🌡🌫🌧
The mascot of my run today :)
Strength training and running on the same day apparently doesn't work for me. Today is the only day during this week that I am able to fit any exercise into, so I tried fitting in both. It did not go too well :D
I've just made my first, very careful and unambitious attempt at jogging since the half-marathon three weeks ago (I overloaded the tendons in my left foot, and it looked and felt very alarming for a long time).
I'm happy to report I have no pain in my foot, but it's atrocious how much my cardio level has dropped in just three weeks 😅
Anyway, I'm already hyped to get back to a(n improved) running routine, and I want to run a half again in autumn 🤩
Here is my plan in short:
- more speedwork
- strength training!
That's it.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
...well, this is not the race report I'd hoped to write 😅
I have completed the half marathon yesterday. I loved the first 7-8 kilometers - I was obviously running much faster than I usually do during my longer runs. I know the experts always say that you should be careful not to be carried away at the beginning of any race. But I really enjoyed it, and I figured that this would at least win me some extra time for later in the race when I would be tired and slower.
The problem started at around 9 kilometers...I noticed a sharp(ish) pain in the outer side of my left foot. I was able to keep running, but it bothered me enough to stop several times and try to massage it out. It did not get better. After 13-14 kilometers, I fell apart mentally and I walked a lot. I did not run for any significant amount of time after that point. I kept switching between walking and running very frequently. I feel disappointed about the walking - I have been training so diligently, I was not expecting to fall apart like this.
But there is a bigger issue, I'm afraid I have messed up my foot worse than I initially thought. It's the next day, it is red, swollen, and I cannot really put weight on it. According to my google research, it could be either a stress fracture, or (more likely imo) peroneal tendonitis. It seems both conditions take weeks or even months to heal.
I'm devastated by the thought of having to give up not only running but hiking too, for several weeks. I'm finally in a good shape again, and the weather has just turned really nice. This is a disaster.
By the way, I finished the run in 2:48:30, which is terribly slow, but still quicker than the time that was predicted based on my recent long runs. But I just cannot be happy about this right now.
I'm praying for some miracle to find out that my foot is not in too bad of a shape after all, it heals in a couple of days, and I can continue to improve my running instead of having to start from 0 again at the end of summer...
Today was my last long run day before the half marathon.
I naively expected this 12 km jog to be easy. Well, it was anything but :D I was miserable the whole time. The headwind was so strong that at certain points, I was practically running in place.
Somehow I managed to struggle through the whole distance I had planned, so I'm satisfied. I'll be looking at a ridiculously slow half marathon pace next week, but at least I know that I've worked really hard to train for the event 😎
There are some issues that weigh heavy on my mind right now, and I'm feeling extremely anxious today. Luckily I had the afternoon free, so I went out for some much needed forest therapy. It did not solve any of my problems, but at least it cleared my head for a couple of hours. And I'm happy, because I've discovered a new trail that is easy enough for me to run many sections of it :)
5 kilometers in gentle rain, listening to birdsong :)
I'm running a half-marathon in three weeks.
I can only hope that the excitement of the race will carry me through and make it easier, because I've run 15km, 16.4km, 17.2km during the past three weeks, and each time it felt like I was at my limit. I don't feel the progress the way I felt with runs under 15km, the same 15km feels very hard every single time.
Maybe strength training would help a bit, but to be honest, I'm not very good at fitting it into my current schedule.
A small victory: for the first time in this running era of mine, my pace dropped below 7 minutes per kilometer (6:59 to be exact :)
It was only a 2 km distance, but I'm still happy with this milestone :)
An easygoing run/walk session on a chilly, rainy spring day ♡
I ran a 15k race today.
The course was beautiful, and I did really well for myself in the first hour. I passed the 5k mark at exactly 37:00 minutes, which is a really good time for current me :)
But then around 57 minutes, the course crossed a train track - and a train was coming, really slowly at that, so I had to stop there and wait for several minutes. That kind of broke my rhythm and my spirit too.
I had not had particularly high expectations for my finishing time, this was my first 15k in many years after all, but honestly I had hoped to finish a little bit faster than I ended up finishing. 1 hour, 58 minutes and 9 seconds.
I'm not complaining though, my goal was to run/jog all the way without walking, and I succeeded in that, and it was a beautiful race, so all is well :)
5k: 37:00 - 10k: 76:43 - 15k: 118:09
One of the things I struggle with the most is going running early in the day (what I really mean by that is any time before 2PM...).
I tried today, because I had to leave for school around 11 AM, I had not run since the past weekend, and won't have a free afternoon until the weekend again. I really, really WANTED to run today, but I was not feeling it at all. I think I made a bad choice with my breakfast. I did not mind the gentle rain, but I just felt completely incapable and weak... I did not even make it to the 7 minute mark. Terrible :D
I will try an 'early' run again sometime soon, because I have two events lined up in the near future, both of which start relatively early. At least, much earlier than what I'm used to, because I tend to run late in the afternoon or even in the evening when the conditions allow it.
94 minutes: done!
As per usual, I set out for my long run almost too late into the afternoon, but luckily I finished just before dark. Each time I check the exact time when the sun is supposed to set, but I have noticed that where I live and run, it starts to get dark almost half an hour earlier than that (it must have to do with the altitude and the hills around here).
