“This is a song full only of expressions of sensations and feelings, like ‘I like you,’ and ‘Kiss me,’ and ‘Hold me,’ all written by me, and I’m very opposed to lyrics that don’t have any sort of grounding in reality in them. These are rare lyrics, words I couldn’t write more than one time in my entire life. But they’re pretty romantic.”

One of the most well known tracks off of Yapoos Plan, and perhaps one of the only straight-up love songs Togawa has ever written.

Another standout track off the seminal Turn the Y Dial! (Daiyaru Y wo Mawase!). This has become a staple of her live shows as of late. Most likely, it’s about an abusive relationship that neither party wants to leave, even though they both understand it’s mutually destructive.

Yuko Miyamura // 12 Year Old Flag

Written by Jun Togawa for Yuko Miyamura (Asuka from Evangelion’s voice actress), a Yapoos version of this song was slated to appear on cancelled 2002 release 霊長類ヤプーズ品目ヒト科, or “Order Primates, Yapoos-class Hominidae” in English. The release was cancelled shortly after Kyoko Togawa’s suicide, however 2 of the songs saw release on 2003′s CD-Y.

The first in a series of translation requests submitted by @sorrowsofsatan, thank you! I was surprised to find no one had translated this one off Yapoos Plan, so it was a fun time. The writer of the song had this to say about it: “love like a pebble caught in a bottomless swamp,” which should give you a good push towards the song’s meaning.

The music in this track is attributed to an ‘Andean folk song.’ I attempted to do some research going off what I know about Jun Togawa’s exposure to Andean music (IE, her usage of “El Borrachito” by Quilapayun for “Teinen Pushiganga”), but I couldn’t find anything concrete.
